"Ahh Mueseum. Perfectly pleasant sort of place, don't you think so mother-dearest? No? Father-lovely? No?" He couldn't help it. Whenever around his parents, Cornel felt the uncontrollable urge to press his limits with them and make the whole ordeal uncomfortable for the lot of them. After all this was their own fault. He'd already had 4 marriage interviews since he turned 18, there was a reason he didn't have a fiance yet. No lady would ever put up with him and his constant prattling and no parents would ever condemn their daughter to such a fate. As to why his parents continued to try, Cornel honestly couldn't see a reason. He did love the museum though. All its wonderful exhibits. All the signs that read 'do not touch' that he ignored. Ahhh good times. Oh well....for now he would have to think of things to talk about with this new lady that he was going to end up meeting. There were only so many intellect females that were going to be tried to be forced upon him before his parents would give up. Hopefully this would be the last one. After all he was starting to get rather bored of the whole ordeal.
Iolanthe did her best attempt at not looking sullen and tortured as she was escorted by her parents through the museum she'd adored as a child. However, dressed in her newest evening gown, one made of a soft gray, silky material which she knew not the exact name of with a black lace, and carrying her favorite fan made of a similar lace, she felt rather like she was about to be introduced to her holding cell, not prospective fiancee. When Achille had initially told her about his plan to marry her off if she didn't begin to act like a proper lady, she hadn't taken him seriously. After all, what was wrong with teasing a few boys and having a bit of fun in her free time? It wasn't like she was acting like some scrawny, little maid, eager to kiss the first boy who looked her way. As for the fact that she didn't seem to have any intention of becoming seriously attached to any guy, what did it matter? Give it another year or two, perhaps she'd find that prince she'd been waiting for. Now, though, that didn't seem likely to happen. Even her mother couldn't sway her husband just this once, and the two woman's insistent begging for a second chance fell on false ears."Father, surely giving me one more year to amend my behavior would benefit us all?" Iolanthe inquired hopefully, in a last ditch effort to cause him to reconsider, but was quickly dismissed with a slight wave. With this, the girl emitted a sigh. A glance at her mother only produced a shrug, which she took as the end of this battle, and possibly war, for her freedom. Then again, seeing as her father, despite what his current behavior might suggest, did love her, perhaps this male might not be so terrible. Achille had high standards for his in-laws background, seeing as he himself came from a long line of distinguished doctors. Her mother had also had a slight say in this meeting, so the boy couldn't possibly be dreary. Perked up by this knowledge, Iolanthe was finally able to don on a slight smile, which showed off her delicate features in a more attractive way than her previous dejected expression ever could.
Entering the room, Cornel looked about curiously. This was the room they were all supposed to meet up in.....so naturally it was the room with the history of the Royal Guard. What a delightfully romantically stimulating environment. Actually to Evanescent it most likely was romantic. She was that sort of lady who loved history so no doubt this was all fascinating and lovely to her. Immaculate would rather have met up in a sterile white lab of some sort. How he was the spawn of such boring people, Cornel would never understand. It was enough to make him shake his head with disapproval and sadness, as though they were missing out on something. There wasn't too much time to dwell on things though as Immaculate started to speak. "Ahhh Doctor Latimer, and Professor Latimer, I'm glad that you were able to meet with us on this day."
Huh? Looking up Cornel watched as three people walked into the room. Doctor Latimer, worked a lot. Rather abrupt with his words and then his wife....the cunning former duchess. Then their daughter no doubt. She was pretty, dark hair, bright oddly hued eyes that stuck out against her pale skin. Pretty lips. Speaking of lips she was smiling. Hmm why? Was she actually excited? Hmmmmmm. Interesting. Oh well...no need to be formal. Smiling he walked right up to her and held out a hand to her, "So you must be the lovely Iolanthe Latimer. I'd love to say I've heard all about you, but I haven't. Please tell me about yourself. I'm Cornel, I'm sure you've heard about all the atrocities I tend to meddle in." With the smile on his face it was obvious he was joking but you could practically feel the mortification coming from his parents.
"I cannot say I have, but I look forward to hearing of them," Iolanthe answered with a giggle. Her father, instantly relaxing at the fact that his daughter hadn't greeted Cornel with a cold stare or anything of the sort, turned to face the Lichens as to return their greeting. Her mother, on the other hand, offered the two a greeting before observing her daughter and possible son-in-law's first meeting. Her purple eyes revealing nothing about her current thoughts. Iolanthe, on the other hand, made at least a bit of her opinion visible from the moment she spotted Cornel: She didn't dislike him. Though this might seem like a minor detail to one, considering she was generally amiable girl, but considering she'd almost made up her mind to sabotage this meeting, it was a rather essential fact. The was she currently saw it, before her stood an attractive, intelligent, and not utterly doleful male whom her father wished to engage her to. Perhaps Cornel didn't quite seem like her true love, as she'd often imagined her true love would be a good deal more flirty, but at the very least, perhaps they could be friends."Perhaps a walk about the would reveal more about each other and allow our esteemed parents a moment to converse?" Iolanthe offered, her lovely violet eyes meeting his with a lively gaze. She found their color intriguing, as it matched a few specks of ink on the cuffs of his shirt almost perfectly, something she couldn't help but laugh at in her mind. Honestly her offer was as much to get away from the prying eyes of their parents as much as to give them a chance to converse though. Also, she couldn't help but secretly wish to see the new additions to the museum she hadn't gotten a chance to appraise yet. There were even rumored to be some rather interesting items that had augmented the astronomy section. Lamentably, her father had forbidden her from seeing them, but now was obviously a stellar chance to do so. It'd also give her a chance to discover a bit more about Cornel's intrests and opinion on astronomy.
"Ah yes, a walk. Grand Idea that is. Mother-dearest? Father-lovely? I'm going for a walk with the lovely lady. Ta-ta!" Looping his arm through Iolanthe's he headed off at a brisk pace only slowing once they were out of that room and then allowing her to take the control over their pace. "I'm so sorry. My parents....highly embarrassing creatures. I wish you'd never have to meet them." Smiling over at her he had to admit she wasn't quite so bad. She seemed a bit quiet about things, but maybe that was just the way she was around her parents. Maybe when now that they were alone she'd be a little bit more adventurous. Although most Intellects weren't. Oh how he wished he would've joined the guard. It may have been more interesting. Then again he wouldn't have gotten to roam about all day chasing down his ideas. "Hamsters are glorious things. Have you ever had a hamster? I used to sneak them home with me in my pockets from school. My parents never knew.....when I was 7 I had about 15 of them. Then I took them out for a test run to see how fast they could run and they never came back." He paused here as though taking a moment to commemorate to the sadness of it before shaking his head and smiling over at her. "Ever had any pets? Hamsters? Rodents? Weasels? Ferrets? Birds?" Obviously the idea of small animals as pets in large numbers was something Cornel liked. As they walked he let her lead the direction, as he had seen all parts of the museum and knew almost everything in here like the back of his hand. He visited it rather regularly just to keep up to date on all things historic.
As she followed Cornel, Iolanthe's father flashed her a warning glance which she simply responded to with a slight eye roll as she excited the room. Then she turned to Cornel, trying her best to follow his conversation, and doing rather well considering it was as vivacious as his walking, as well as his entire personality, seemed to be. "Hamster? Cannot say I have, though when I was six I did have a couple rabbits. Horrid little beasts, only ever bickered over who would receive the next carrot. I have not had too many official pets since then, although there are a few songbirds whom I see everyday. They nest in the garden and enjoy roaming around my bedroom and study, seeing as I can never be bothered to close the windows other than during storms," the girl with ebony curls explained as she gazed about the museum. Evidently, there hadn't been too many modifications in this wing since she'd last visited, though she did spot a few errors in the wall descriptions which had been amended. A couple of them had been ones she clearly remembered pointing out numerous times, while the last was one that she couldn't help but be embarrassed she'd missed, as it was so blatantly visible. Nevertheless, she knew that everyone except other Intellects would be none the wiser.
"I take it you're a enthusiast of biology. What of astronomy?" Iolanthe asked him curiously. Honestly she'd almost hesitated upon asking, as her question was bound to be answered by a torrent of words, but some how she got the feeling that she could probably get used to his open way of talking. It was definitely a step up from her father's reserved speech as well as the way of many Intellects. Everyone seemed to say only half of what was on their mind, and only half of what they spoke of seemed to be something they meant. Iolanthe, on the other hand, chose to simply go with the moment, and speak no lies. Of course, this didn't mean she couldn't simply omit some things.
Cornel knew he was a bit much to people so he was a little impressed that this girl was able to handle his vicious way of jumping from topic to topic with ease. It was a good thing. Or at least to him it was a good thing, meant that she had some promise. Hell she might be worthy of friendship. If she was able to loosen up of course. Not that she was strict. But he had to be sure that she could get silly if she had to. "Rabbits. Marvelous creatures. Their poop is in the shape of little round balls....quite fascinating." Shrugging his shoulders he listened to her talk about birds and had to admit internally he wasn't quite as big a fan about birds. They bothered him with their never ending twittering. Well wasn't that the kettle calling the pot black? After all he rarely stopped talking either unless he would find something ever more fascinating. He had yet to meet someone he deemed as brilliant as himself. Looking at her, Cornel saw her eyes darting from sign to sign as though looking for mistakes. "To error is to be human, you know." Raising a brow he smiled slightly. It wasn't her fault. It was the fault of all Intellects. They looked for mistakes. Practically demanded that the mistakes be mended. Personally though....Cornel liked mistakes. Faults. Quirks. They were the most interesting parts of society. Without them well they would all be no better off than being emotionless squids inside of machines intent on exterminating the world of it's imperfections. "Oh. Well I do like biology. But I like all sorts of things. I suppose Biology is my main interest though.....as I do like people." Shrugging his shoulders as though it was unimportant he paused at her next comment.
"What of astronomy? Are you meaning to ask if I like astronomy? My opinions on astronomy? Or how much I know of astronomy? Ahh, I'll answer all of them." Smiling brightly at her he shrugged and then went on to prattle and answer his own questions. "I like it enough. Don't know much about it. Spend far too much time sleeping to really know much of it. As for my opinions and what I know of it. I know that there is a star in the sky that is actually a cosmic diamond with about 10 billion trillion trillion karats. I know a couple other such random facts and i know some constellations but I do not know much. I take it that you are a fan though?" He paused then and looked over at her to wait for her answer as to whether she was a fan or not.
Slightly startled by his words, Iolanthe was shocked out of her state of meticulous searching. She'd actually barely noticed, as after a week confined to her study and bedroom, only permitted out for work, anything else seemed like a break. However, upon realizing her foolishness, she offered a smile and decided to focus more upon her companion. His words hit her in tsunamis, with the force of a paragraph whereas another might answer with a few words. Nonetheless, it didn't seem like he was wasting his breath. Everything he stated related to the topic at hand, and offered a bit of insight."I am the Academy Astrologist's Assistant," Iolanthe explained, her tongue easily gliding over the words that some might describe as a tongue twister. She never was one to stumble over words, rather she knew exactly how to phrase everything she wished to say, she'd inherited her mother's eloquence in that way. "Oh, that is a shame. I suppose sleeping is not a terrible hobby though. However, should you choose to stay up a tad later then usual, tonight would be the opportune time, seeing as the sky is to be free of clouds. Lovely things, stars are. They may not hold our destinies, but they do hold plenty of other things," Iolanthe told him, thinking of her favorite Shakespeare quote. It is not in the stars to hold our destinies, but in ourselves, The Bard had written. Personally though, she'd always believed that her destiny was tied to the stars. This likely stemmed her middle name, Estelle, which her mother had bestowed upon her. Cimorene's power was unknown to her, but she'd long speculated it was some form of precognition.
As Iolanthe continued her stroll, she found herself focusing less upon the exhibits and more upon Cornel. He was a good deal more intriguing than she'd initially expected, and with his rapid speech, it wasn't as if he made multitasking simple. Still, when her father's shoes echoed through the hallway, searching for his daughter who'd strayed too far, she found herself immediately ducking into a rather cramped corridor that was concealed by a particularly leafy exhibit, dragging Cornel behind her. She wasn't ready to return to that cage of her's, not yet at least. Her father had finally granted her a few inches of breathing space, and she was determined to make the most of it. Therefore, she silently watched as Achille passed by, careful not to make a sound until he'd passed by. Then she gazed up at Cornel, who, due to the limited amount of maneuvering space, was standing uncomfortably or comfortably close, depending on how exactly you looked at it. He was definitely close enough to spot the dainty forget-me-not petals which she'd been unable to remove from her hair this morning after her walk, as well as most certainly catch their scent.
"Any chance you would care to take a trip to the planetarium? I have not been able to visit lately."
Suddenly finding himself in a rather small area with Iolanthe, Cornel had only one thought on his mind. "Academy Astrologist's Ah-sis-tant." Repeating the phrase he broke up the last word so as not to get tongue tied over it and chuckled slightly to himself. "I'm certain students would have a field day relishing over that little title there. Very fun. Seems fun. Love it." Reaching up he picked one of the petals from her hair before taking a whiff of the scent and then smiling at the petal before looking down at her and letting the petal fall to the ground from his fingertips. "Flowers. They have a rather wonderful scent. Forget-me-nots. Lovely name. Odd flower. Easily forgettable flower. Scent is distinct though. Maybe that's why....." Trailing off Cornel furrowed his brow in thought as he looked down at the petals in her hair before shaking his head, as though shaking the thought away and filing it away to deal with later. "Alright then. Planetarium you said?" Smiling at her he stepped out of the hallway and took her wrist before heading off towards the planetarium with a rather confident stride. It was as though he knew exactly where he was going, what he was doing, and was sure about every movement he made. He had to admit that little miss Iolanthe was quite surprising. An Astonomer girl? Well well.....his parents had certainly done their best to find a scientist that would be somewhat fitting for him. He was so glad she wasn't a Physicist. All they did was look at numbers and logic and argue about everything. Speculation? Paaah they despised it. Or at least the girls he met had. Maybe that had just been those girls though. Oh well, he would never really know. Not until he met more physicists. And he was not planning on doing that any time soon. As he walked he talked over his shoulder to Iolanthe, seeing as with her stride being a bit smaller she was a bit behind him.
"So I do do a lot of work with Biology. I work in the labs, although I don't really do my work there. I tend to avoid the labs actually. Although I am technically working in them." Shrugging his shoulders he continued onwards until they got to the planetarium before pausing and then looking over at her. "So how exactly did you manage to upset your parents so? No parents ever want their daughter to marry me. It's a nightmare. I've ruined four of these interview things. Girls usually leave in tears saying I'm a madman that no one should be forced to deal with a madman. I don't think I'm mad though. I think I have a rather average range of emotions....if anything I'm rather cheerful." Smiling he chuckled and then looked around the planetarium and then back at her, having let go of her wrist to turn in a circle to execute the action. Looking at her he rose a brow. "So......" Obviously he expected her to do something now. After all she had wanted to come here so she must've had some sort of plan to do something amazing. Right?
