E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments Micah had just finished his shift as body guard and was taking a short cut through the ballroom in order to get home faster. His mind was blank as he did nothing exciting today besides stop a speeding cart and transfer it to one of the .1 kilogram stones he keeps in his shirt pocket for just such an incident. The pebble is now extremely far away as the cart was going 5m/s with a 20 kg cart. The stone shot away at 1000 m/s as the Laws of Physics dictates.

He enjoys doing these mathematical calculations in his head as it distracts him from any thoughts that might be thought of as "bad" or "illegal".

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Mariette twirled a lock of her golden hair around her finger as she stared in annoyance at her vocal's instructor. Apparently they were in the ball room that day because it has better acoustics, but Marie knew better. You see her voice is where her power lies, and whenever she sings, people are instantly drawn to her like moths to a flame. Her instructor has three sons, all of them well into the age of the horny years, naturally her voice just added onto the problem that was already there.

The ball room was supposed to be empty, or at least the one they were in, but her instructor babbled off about how she should learn to control her power so that when she sings she would be drawing from her talent, and not the power. "I am very talented, my power has nothing to do with it," she snapped. Having reached her breaking point with the instructor, Marie stomped on his foot before turning sharply on her heel so as to leave. Unfortunately this was how she ended up bumping into someone else. Who saw this coming? "Hey!" she cried out, stumbling back quite a few steps before falling to the hard marble floor.

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments Micah bumped into a woman who reminded him a black-eyed susan with her long corn kernel hair and her near ink-colored eyes. He wasn't sure if he found her beautiful or not; she had this aura of power and regality about her that suggested nobility, but also snobbery. He had heard her stomp on the man's foot from before, but didn't think she'd turn around so fast. Luckily for both of them, Mariette wasn't moving very fast so he took her momentum and transferred it to his larger frame so she just fell from being off-balance instead of her speed. He tried to reach out his hand to catch her, but he was just a tad too slow. A bit ironic considering his power involves velocity...

He bent over and reached his hand down, "I'm terribly sorry, Madame. Are you all right?" he looked deep into her black eyes with his dark brown ones.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Mariette was already in a bad mood, falling to the floor on her rear really didn't make it any better. Then add on the fact that her instructor was whimpering in the background, and she just wasn't very happy at all. So instead of being nice and well-mannered like she was raised to be, Marie wrinkled her nose as she took the hand of the man who made her fall in the first place. "Do I look all right to you?" Pulling herself up with his helping hand, the girl with the hair that shone brighter than the sun glowered at this man, who seemed to have appeared out of thin air. Once she was on her feet, she looked down at her dress to make sure there were no tears or smudges of dirt on it. Despite being in pain, her instructor ran over to help check her dress, but Marie quickly swatted the meek man away before looking back to this other man. Men. What problems they caused.

Okay, so he was pretty good looking, but this didn't erase the fact that she fell over because of him. "Who are you? I have never seen you here before? Why are you here? This is supposed to be a private session."

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments "Well, to be perfectly honest, you actually seem perfectly all right. You aren't bruised or cut or scraped, and your dress is still as lovely as ever," he replied calmly and softly like a breeze. He decided that she was cute in a way; not beautiful perhaps, but a fine lady in her own right. He smiled at her to try to lighten the mood just a tad. "My name is Micah Jade, body guard and member of the Royal Guard. Although your next question is a statement, it's phrased like a question so I'll just say yes, I don't believe we've ever had the privilege of making each other's acquaintance. As to why I'm here, I was merely passing through to reach my home. The ball room is much shorter to go through than around and the door was unlocked so I figured it was open to all visitors. I'm sorry for disturbing you. You may get back to your session if you wish and I can take my leave," he gestured towards the door.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Was he being smart with her? Marie couldn't tell. She viewed most men as she viewed her oldest brother, Basile - sarcastic, arrogant, and constantly toying with her. Her other brother, Damien, was the same, except a little nicer than Basile, but he still played cruel pranks on her. It's a wonder she hasn't declared that she was going to shun men from her life completely. Yet this guy seemed to be different. He seemed . . . genuine? Could men actually be honest? She wouldn't know, she hasn't met many, but no surprise there, finding an honest Noble man was a rare thing. Though this guy wasn't a Noble, so that would explain it. As she thought this over as this man, Micah, spoke, Marie's expression softened a little. Now she just felt bad for having shouted at him without any reason to; her mother would kill her if she ever found out since it wasn't very lady-like to shout at a stranger.

"No, I guess I am all right," she sighed, looking down at herself. While she may have felt bad about her reaction to him, Marie still stood tall and proud as she was a Noble, and well she flaunted it. "A body guard? Who has a body guard? Maybe I should ask my father for one." Resting one hand on her hip, Mariette's dark eyes did a once over of Micah, looking him over from head-to-toe. Scratch that, he was more than just good looking. "A Royal Guard, eh? So you have a power then. Must be exciting." She wondered what his power was, but didn't ask. Whatever it was, it was probably more exciting than hers. Returning her eyes back to his face, Marie nodded. "Understandable. I'm done with my session for the day, you may take your leave if you wish." She waved a hand nonchalantly to the door that was still several steps away. "I am Mariette Delacroix. A Noble, but I'm sure you already figured that out."

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments "I am not at liberty to say who I guard, though I will tell you that it is one of the Nobles. Since I am a free agent of the Royal Guard, I can be anyone's body guard. If you ever need the services of one, I am happy to be of assistance," he gave a small courteous bow to her. "Yes, of course. You are not allowed into the Royal Guard without an ability. I heard you singing before as well, and you have a lovely voice Madame Delacroix: a powerful one at that," he hinted slightly at the siren-ic quality in her voice.

People who were not part of the Royal Guard were not allowed to use their powers. Her age was impossible to determine. She spoke as if she were in her twenties, but she looked to be in mid to late teens. If she was past nineteen, he had an obligation to bring her in for questioning or accusation. However, he felt that she was doing no harm and perhaps she had no power over when she used her power, whatever it really was. All he knew was that her singing was hypnotic, but so was that of a few other non-magical musicians. Perhaps she has no ability. Either way, he wouldn't do anything about it.

He gave her another quick bow and turned to leave. He stopped and waited for a moment. "Madame Delacroix, it has been an honor making your acquaintance, and I do most sincerely hope we see each other in the near future. Enjoy the rest of your lesson."

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ "Please, call me Mariette, or Marie. Madame Delacroix is my mother," she said quickly, cringing internally every time he would say it. It was true, everyone called her mother either Lady or Madame Delacroix. Seeing how Marie was only seventeen, she felt as if she was neither as of yet. Though people have already begun calling her brother Lord Delacroix, which made her laugh every single time. In fact she may never be Madame Delacroix because the second she turned nineteen she would be forced to the join the guard, that or stop singing all together. Singing was her life so she really couldn't see herself doing that, but living the pampered life of a Noble was all she knew, so Marie really didn't know what was going to happen when the time came. Thankfully she still has another two years to figure that out.

"If I ever need a body guard, I will keep you in mind." For Marie it was more like if she ever wanted to boast to her friends that she has a body guard, she would hire him. Though at the mention of him having heard her sing, she smiled brightly, always one to accept compliments. "Why thank you. I've been singing since I was a child." She didn't let on that it was where her power lied, it wasn't really any of his business, and as she was seventeen anyhow, it was perfectly fine for her to practice said power.

Marie almost didn't want him to go, but she needed to return home soon enough anyways as her parents were hosting an intimate gathering. "It's been a pleasure," she replied simply, unable to think of an excuse for him to stay. Anything. At least his company would be far more interesting than that of her instructor's. "I-if you wish to stay to hear me sing, you may." What a feeble attempt in trying to get him to stay a little longer, but it was the best she could do.

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments "As you wish, Marie," he made sure to emphasize mildly that he had used her name. He smiled at using her first name. He wasn't sure what to think of her. She had at first ordered him and shouted, but then she had turned into merely a bit snippy but softer, and now she was being kind and mildly flirty. Such odd changes in such a short span of time. He also realized that if she was singing now and that was her gift, then she would either have to join the Royal Guard or stop singing permanently. Neither of them seemed preferable to him. He didn't enjoy the Royal Guard, hence why he is a body guard for hire. Much easier and you don't have to deal with brawls in the streets over breadcrumbs.

His eyes lit up at her mention of ever needing a body guard. So either she was flirting with him and saying that she would like to keep him with her... or she wanted to show off her money. Either way, she seemed to like the idea of a body guard. "I can tell; you have an amazing registry of notes," he added. "Soprano, alto, and I could have sworn a note or two of bass, which is very exquisite as all those notes came from a single set of lips."

He smiled at her offer. She had stuttered just then. "It would be an honor to hear you sing once more. I have all the time in the world..." and with that he took a seat against the wall and watched her intently, waiting for the beautiful sound to usher forth once more.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Mariette was absolutely beaming when Micah said he would stay to hear her sing. Oh how she loved an audience! Singing was basically the only thing she was good at, which was sad to an extent but Marie accepted that long ago. Basile, the oldest in the family, was the charming one, then Damien, the second oldest, was the intelligent one, leaving Mariette with the pretty face. At least she was a pretty face with a voice, that was something, right? Swatting those thoughts to the side, Marie stood proudly as her instructor took up his violin, ready to start playing when she was ready. She already knew what she was going to sing as it was the only piece she has been practicing for the past few weeks now. There was some room for improvement, but she was still pretty confident that she nailed it. Power or not, there was no denying that the girl with the golden hair has a remarkable voice.

"I will be singing Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera," she announced. "Normally it is accompanied by much more, but this is it for now." Marie shrugged, not actually knowing what happened to the rest of the accompaniment, but as it was simply a lesson, she could do without it. And without further ado, the instructor began playing.

The song was in Latin, the lyrics holding a meaning that Marie didn't fully understand as of yet. Though one wouldn't know that because as she sang, every single note sounded as if it was coming from the heart, each note shaped to perfection. Her sweet, yet strong, vocals swirled around the room, even captivating her instructor, who was swaying in his seat as he continued to play the violin. Though Marie's eyes were on one person only, and that was the guard. Unknowingly, as she sang her power enhanced her voice, making it sweeter to the ear, making her appear alluring to whomever was listening, almost as if she was putting them under a spell.

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments Micah didn't like to let on how much he knew about family names, but he had heard of the Delacroixs...
They were a very rich family full of history and power and intelligence and creativity. He had heard of her siblings already: Basile was known as a charmer among the upper class and her other brother Damon (Damien?) - something among that effect - was extremely intelligent and well-red, both amazing qualities. Which left Marie in the well-off and amazing position as the creative child as could be evidenced by her love of singing.

Then the violin started to sing...
which was followed by a wave of silk and honey, an alluringly sweet and soft sound with little peaks and chirps that blended together in a symphony of auditory pleasure. It rose and fell like a bellows raising a spark into a flame. It was beautiful, it was lovely, and he could feel her power wash over him. He very desperately wanted to get up and waltz with her to sound of the music, but as she was singing, his mind made sure to tell him this impossible so he stayed seated against the wall for the moment, listening as she continued.

He began to smile wider as she began to finish. Once the song was finished, he stood up, and applauded her performance, "Wonderful, just as lovely as the first time I heard it," he said lustrously, his words were soft and mildly slurring together as if he had become drunk on her singing alone.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ At Micah's applause, Mariette's smile simply grew. She loved to sing that it was only natural for her to want to share her talent with others, proving to them that she was indeed more than just another pretty face in the family. Yep, she was desperately searching for someone's approval because her parents hardly have the time to do so anymore. They were too busy with other things to notice Mariette, well her mother busied herself with finding a man for Marie to marry, but the was a whole other matter that could be dealt with at a later time. Turning her attention to Micah, she walked over to him, a wide smile still on her face, and a certain glow about her. She was certainly much different from she first bumped into him, but could easily be explained by her love of music.

"Thank you, kind sir." She curtsied as her mother her to do, though the action itself made her giggle softly. After each performance Marie felt as if she has just come off this wonderful feeling, as if she has just been soaring high in the sky - she felt giddy. "I'm glad you enjoyed the performance." Unable to stop smiling, Marie noticed his slightly drunken state; it was no surprise as that was a side affect of her power. "Are you all right? Perhaps you should sit for a little bit."

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments Micah's head felt a tad bit fuzzy, but his vision was fine and any shudders or shivers he might've felt had already ceased, but this girl - Marie was her name - asked him to sit and so he decided that perhaps sitting would be the best option for him. He gently sat down on the ground and stayed sitting against the wall. "No, thank you for the performance. It was astounding, just as I hoped," he started smiling again.

It was a lovely song that was sung lovely by a lovely person. "If only I had the ability to create something beautiful like that," he laughed. "All I can do is help people stop."

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Marie bit her lower lip, a bad habit of hers that she was trying to break. Now she felt bad that she made him stay when she knew she didn't have a good handle on her power yet, though she didn't think it would have this sort of effect, but Marie found out it tended to vary from people to people. "You are too kind," she said in response to his compliments. Shaking her head, Mariette decided to take a seat beside him.

On the ground.

Against the wall.

In her new dress.

What is going on with this Noble?

"Yes, I guess it is beautiful. Although, sometimes it's hard to tell if people actually enjoy hearing me sing because I am talented, or if it is my "ability" influencing them," she mumbled. Looking over at him, Mariette tilted her head to the side. "Oh? How does that work?"

message 16: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments He saw her bite her lip. She was nervous or guilty about something... her power. That was the only reasonable conclusion to jump to. There was nothing else she had done; she had not ridiculed or laughed at him. "I'm not kind; I'm honest," he said a bit more quietly.

And then she sat down next to him and all the fuzziness and dizziness and nausea and any other symptom left. She was a Noble; he was a Royal Guard. He came from-- no, he was higher now. No need to think of his other class. He was a Royal Guard, a respectable position in its own right...
but she was still of a higher class than him.
He stayed sitting long enough to answer her:
"Your singing is lovely; you hit the right notes with a beautiful voice; you are lovely when you sing. I-I-I have to go," he stood up.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Mariette blushed. What was she doing? Why was she sitting on the ground? She suddenly felt foolish when he stood up, making her feel like a silly child on the floor. Quickly as possible Mariette got up to her feet, which was a little difficult as her dress was long, but she managed it on her own. "O-oh, okay. Sorry for keeping you here for so long." She stuttered again, and it was sorta really obvious that she was a little sad that he was leaving already. "It was a pleasure making your acquaintance, and singing for you." The girl from the Noble family was about to say that she hoped to see him again, but surely something like that wouldn't happen. Ever.

Well unless she was to hire him as her personal body guard. No, she shouldn't. . . . Should she? Biting her lip again, she fidgeted with her dress before looking at him again with a small smile. "Goodbye, Micah."

message 18: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 88 comments "No, no trouble at all," he waved off her apology as if it was nothing. "It was my pleasure to stay," he realized he was rushing his words and took a deep breath. "Really. I did enjoy it," he smiled quickly. "It was an honor and a privilege to make your acquaintance, Marie," he bowed to her once. "I hope to see you again, sometime."

"Remember, if you are to ever find yourself in need of a body guard, just send a message to this... address..." as he talked he rummaged in his pockets and bags for a slip of paper on which he could scribble a place name with graphite. He finally found a slip and wrote it down and handed it to her. "Goodbye, my dear, and may the wind always be at your back," he smiled and left through the opposite door that he came in through.

✯✯ᔕTᗩᖇᖇᒪIᘜᕼT✯✯ Did he call her dear? "B-bye. . ." Yep, she felt like a little girl, though Marie was technically still young so . . . moving on. Mariette watched the guard leave before looking down at the slip of paper. She turned to leave as well, waving off her instructor easily as there was only one thing on her mind now. She needed to go home to ask her daddy for something. . .
