Please help me find this book. It's about a world where success in a "world of warcraft" like game determines real life success. For example, a family needs more resources their farm so they go into the game and adventure in the game so that they can get resources from the "government". I remember the climax being our main character and his friends going into the game and fighting a dragon which is notoriously hard to defeat. Beating a dragon was so rare that the last people who defeated a dragon now work for the game and are the highest class of society in the real world. Our heroes were able to defeat the dragon because the main character in the book realizes an exploit in the game where the dragon takes a second to register a new target when it is attacked so our heroes buy literally cart fulls of arrows and take them to the dragon and after hours of simply shooting arrows in the dragon they kill it. If this rings a bell with anyone please tell me. Thanks a lot for the help!

"Epic" by Conor Kostick"Generations ago, violence was banned on New Earth. Society is governed and conflicts are resolved in the arena of a fantasy computer game, Epic. Everyone plays. If you win, you have the chance to go to university, get more supplies for your community, and fulfill your dreams; if you lose, your life both in and out of the game is worth nothing.
When Erik, seeking revenge for the unjust treatment of his parents, dares to subvert the rules of Epic, he and his friends find themselves up against with the ultimate masters of the game: the Committee. If Erik and his friends win, they may have the key to destroying Epic's tyranny over New Earth. But if they lose . . ."

Errol--if it helps, there was another thread about the book suggested by Sallie.
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... S for the click for it.
And, btw, I recognize the scene that you describe from the book. Which I didn't get to finish because my copy "disappeared". (I believe that it was carried off by one of my grandsons.)

Oh, and if you are just looking for this specific book, you should move your thread up to "Unsolved". Requests is for ANY book with this basic theme.
And if you just want books about games. . .Invitation to the Game is another one that I could suggest.
And, if you don't mind romance, there is also Blow Me Down

thanks so much ladies, you totally found my book. And Ann you should pick up another copy and finish it, it's really good, but I have to say don't get sucked into getting the "sequel", saga, it's not really a sequel, actually it's completely different and though it may not be bad I was so distraught at it not being a sequel that I couldn't pay any attention to it, lol.
