In honor of that most erudite of sages, the late Ivan Varnenski, I should like to dedicate this thread to various mantras and aphorisms of this great man, whose profundity is already well-known.

Might I contribute the first one? I'm sorry if the wording seems a little funny; apparently, the quality of online Bulgarian translators is just horrible.

In the orgiastic, frivolous modern world, wherein the man who cogitates is a rarity indeed, we all know that only by washing ourselves in the baths of knowledge can we be cleansed by the shampoo of truth.

A sage he was indeed. Ivan Varnenski was a lion of a man.

The following is one of my favorite sentiments from his pre-ortus; post-letum period. It comes from one of his most famous works of said epoch, Nature and Her Naturalism. Its sublimity is matched solely by the divinity of the angels among which Varnenski now flies.

Trouble thee not with musings of new candies and cell phones, for thine thoughts wilt be as the sheep of benighted shepherds.

It's a beautiful and compelling statement...however, I'm not sure that it is founded in a solid epistemology.
