The Crowded Graveby Martin Walker 4 Stars
Almost as much a travel book as a police procedural, The Crowded Grave features a local cop, Bruno Courrèges, who can hold his own with members of France's various national police forces while keeping life smooth for farmers, villagers and tourists in the fictional community of St. Denis. Amid the spectacular food, wine and scenery of the Dordogne region, Bruno finesses the quirks of French bureaucracy and politics to make sure that the misguided get a second chance and that a brutal terrorist plot is thwarted. If only he could figure out the women in his life... I'll be sure to read the earlier books in this series, and I look forward to more additions.

- 5 stars'She was gone, and yet she was more present than anyone else. I'd fallen in love with Amy because I was the ultimate Nick with her. Loving her made me superhuman, it made me feel alive.'

'She suddenly realised that it didn't matter. Maybe it wasn't about ever getting over it. It was about finding the truth, getting justice for Clint, stopping worse things from happening. There was no time for self-pity. She had a big job ahead.'

How the Light Gets In This is on the NYT best sellers list and with good reason. The latest book in the 3 Pines Mystery series is a complete story in itself while completing several story lines that have run through the series to date. Highly recommend this and all of Louise Penny's books.

'At 2am, a veil lifts. But what happens when you don't know the time? What happens when the light never goes off? That's what it's like, in the white room. It's limbo. It's neither real nor fantasy. It's not life and it's not death. Time doesn't matter here. I'm not sure what does, really.'

'Mick woke up with a start, body trembling. He was staring at the floor, head hanging over the cot. He twisted over and sat up, rubbing his face, blinking to bring the room back into focus. Tears in his eyes, a fading scream sinking back into his throat.'

I'm a huge fan of Laurie R. King. While I adore her Mary Russel series, I enjoy her other works as well; "Folly" immediately springs to mind. One of her few books that I did not care for as much as the others was "Touchstone." It has been years since I read it and it was about 1/4 of the way through "The Bones of Paris" when I realized that it was a sequel to "Touchstone" and I am feeling the same sort of ambivalence. The book is well written and the time/setting interesting but I couldn't connect with the characters, especially the protagonist, Stuyvesant, to care. I find Bennet Gray to be much more interesting and in an odd way relate-able and wish he'd had a larger role. I am sure there are many who will love this book. I liked it and am glad of the experience but it was slow going for me.

'All the facts and characters were present but the details and events were twisted into such a bizarre parallel reality. It was my life, but not as I knew it, for here it was all so much better.'

An awesome Jewish murder mystery reviewed and absolutely liked Wedding Wipeout by Jacob M. Appel . No matter what the other reviewers say, I am all for the book and honestly hope another one to come out soon. Check out the book at
A brilliant murder mystery with a hint of romance in it
Mystery romance lovers must try it. Check out my review at Amazon Burning
'Real love was unrecoverable, terminal; it followed you through your life and to the grave. There was never any going back.'
is a chess based murder mystery. Do not go by the title of the book. Although the title in itself is not very catchy, the story is irresistible. A completely engrossing tale, it is a must read for all murder mystery / thriller enthusiasts. Check out my review at Even Dead Men Play Chess
is the second in the Ray Gordon mysteries. Another brilliant work by Michael Weitz, this is a notch up from the first book. Totally awesome. check out my review at The Grandmaster's King
The Mystery of the Blue Dolphins by Sandra BaublitzMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Read the complete review at The Mystery of the Blue Dolphins (A Clarissa and Paw Mini Mystery, Vol. 1)
A very short murder mystery but with such an awesome punch which sometimes even a full fledged novel cannot deliver. Clarissa and Paw are absolute lovable detectives. The Saint Bernard Paw is a darling digger and Clarissa is a very intuitive owner. Together, they manage to solve a murder mystery which was considered to be a suicide at first.

Herbie's Diner by L. Joseph ShostyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Check out the complete review at Herbie's Diner
It is truly a short read, just some 60 odd pages. The story starts in the middle, where Actor Johnny Hardwood, who is being a detective, is sitting at Herbie's Diner, waiting for a suspect. And then the author takes us on a journey where the action is happening, at the same time, the background is also being described wherever required.
Truly a fun read, especially just a for a couple of hours, as it gets over by then.

Thirteen Suspects by C.M. OkonkwoMy rating: 2 of 5 stars

A sex filled murder mystery. The murdered victim had sexual encounters with 13 females, all of which are described in vivid details in his diary named "YOLO". The detectives investigating the murder comes across this book and thus the 13 characters are placed under suspicion.
The story is a murder mystery for the sake of saying. It is basically an erotic diary of a sex starved hostel guy.
