The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian was terrific! Part YA, part graphic novel (well just a little bit), and 100% terrific. He's written many others too! Anyone read any of his and would like to discuss?

This has been on my TBR list for MONTHS. I would love to discuss it when I've finally gotten my hands on a copy/have time to read it!
YAY Tahleen, you won't be sorry. It was a terrific book! Alexie's not very well known, but I hope that changes because he's very clever and I really enjoyed it! I read books (audio) at night when I can't sleep and I was actually laughing out loud in bed! It takes alot to make me laugh out loud, so...definitely worth a read.
Actually, this book won the 2007 National Book Award for Young Adult Literature. Good stuff. Here's a link to his website:

I knew it won the National Book Award, I actually think that's how I heard of it on this site. I'd seen it at B&N (I work there) and it kind of piqued my interest but after reading about it on here I was even more interested. I'll check out his site.I also want to read The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by him, though that's an adult book.
I was just looking thru again - the illustrations are really a trip. I audio-ed this and requested the actual book because I knew it was appearing on some graphic novel shelves and wondered why. I really think you have to "read" this one to fully appreciate it.
Yeah, I heard there were a lot of cartoons, isn't the main character supposed to be kind of a cartoonist? I started reading it at work one night but didn't get too far.
Yeah, he is..they are great. And the audiobook is performed by the author too, and is also really good. I don't always like author performances, but this one is good. He both writes and speaks very convincingly from the teenage point of view.
Ahh you are getting me pumped for it haha. I can't wait to be done with school so I can read everything I want to.
We read an excerpt in my Issues in Contemporary Lit class in college..I really enjoyed it! I've been meaning to pick something of his up.
Yeah, and if you're not a Native American, then his books would fit in to our Challenge as a 25 point task (#3)! And so worth it, you'll love it.
Loved Diary and have read a few of his short stories (see The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. Great stuff). I love his ability to mix humor and sadness. I think I've marked just about everything by him as to read, but haven't had a chance for anything else. Maybe if we do another challenge, I'll work in Flight A Novel...
Yeah, I think it's called Smoke Signals, right? It's based on The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven I think.
