Please let me know any books you want added to our shelf. I did research prior to adding books and I feel I have selected just about every feminist author I know of. The selections included fiction and non-fiction, I even included poetry. I have no idea on the content of the books listed so we will suffer or enjoy together!

Since we all have other interests and participate in other groups I thought best to do ONE read a month that way our time isn't monopolized and will allow for participation in this group.

This looks PHENOMENAL. Just added it to my TBR.

Bonus: it fulfills the women of genre fiction challenge I'm doing this year (12 books by new-to-me female authors of science fiction or fantasy).

Kara (karaayako) Hi all, I'm looking for business non-fiction with a feminist theme. Our women's network at work is getting together for book discussions. Any suggestions?

The ones currently on my list:
Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead
Glass Ceilings and 100-Hour Couples: What the Opt-Out Phenomenon Can Teach Us about Work and Family
Leadership and the Sexes: Using Gender Science to Create Success in Business

I think it fits the group because it joins the werewolf legend with females/lesbians. hehe Who better to serve the moon? May be a little different but I liked the angle.

CD | 105 comments Author Denise Kiernan has a recent/new work, The Girls of Atomic City: The Secret History of the Women Who Built WWII's Most Powerful Weapon, that would be a good addition to the F-word bookshelf.

I just finished this one. It also happens to be my 'Real World' bookclub selection for August. Hope that others who haven't discovered this book enjoy it as much as I did!

Thanks - CD

Ingeborg Dear all,

I would recommend a fantastic book by Carolyn G. Heilbrun: WRITING A WOMAN'S LIFE
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48...
It was written in the 80s, but it is still relevant and very interesting!

Devlin Scott (devlin_scott) | 8 comments I read a very interesting and entertaining short novel over the weekend.

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

Very clever story about a young wife's battle for her sanity and personal freedoms amidst her controlling husband's desires for her "proper" health.

It's a must read if you haven't already.

message 49: by Laura (new)

Laura (stereoparade) | 7 comments I'm actually taking a Women & Creativity class at my university so I thought I'd share the books we're reading this semester:

Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg
Marbles, by Ellen Forney (it's a graphic novel)
Bailey's Cafe, by Gloria Naylor
The New Moon's Arms, by Nalo Hopkinson

All the books have to do with the power and creativity of women, strong female characters, feminism, etc. They are all worth reading!

We've also covered a bit of feminism in my Fiction class, including some of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's work, which I highly recommend, and Miles from Nowhere by Nami Mun. Really great book about a young girl struggling to survive.
