What's your favorite book ever? Who's it by? Would you recommend it?

For example, my favorite is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, and I would DEF. recommend it to anyone who enjoys books. Anyone.

Peace!
~Tia

message 2: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileyr9350) I like Inkheart too!! However, My favorite book is the Inheritance series, by Christopher Paolini. (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr)

message 3: by Maxine (new)

Maxine Dexter (maxinedexter) | 69 comments Inkheart <3 I'm madly in love with Mo and Dustfinger

Hmmm...books that I love.

The Mayor of Castro Street by Randy Shilts-the biography of Harvey Milk. I don't like biographies but this was incredible how it was written and inspiring.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald-Just amazing!

1984 by George Orwell-A great satire that'll haunt you for the rest of your life.

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy-It's beautiful.

Night Watch-A fun, great sci-fi book you just can't put down.

Atonement by Ian McEwan-Just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

In the Time of the Butterflies-Brilliantly written, tragic yet inspiring. Makes you appriciate life in America. It's about the Dominican Republic under Trujillo and three sister's stand aganist the goverment. It's a story everybody has to read.

Catcher and the Rye by J.D. Salinger-Funniest book ever! I love Holden Caulfield

...Wow, Harli...that's a lot of books.

Yeah, Dustfinger is the best, right? Fave character ever. I sort of had this evil desire for him to run off with Resa...and then Mo could marry Violante...and...I didn't even think of Roxane, but you know...

message 5: by Maxine (new)

Maxine Dexter (maxinedexter) | 69 comments lol. I think Mo is the best but Dustfinger is close. I just want Mo to save the world as the Blue Jay. He's so fasinating. I didn't see the movie but I'm loving that Brendan Fraser plays him and I love the actors for Dustfinger ((It's Chaucer from A Knight's Tale))

lol I actually don't have time to read a lot. But those books have inspired me so much whether to write or politically. esp. The Mayor of Castro Street and In the Time of the Butterflies. Like I highly, highly recommended In the Time of the Butterflies. It's a book I'm trying to get everybody to read.

Yeah, I don't think the movie was very good...

You know, I almost went a year without reading a single book? School is killer...I know what you mean by not having alot of time.

message 7: by Maxine (new)

Maxine Dexter (maxinedexter) | 69 comments Yeah. Sometimes you get to read good books for school. I had to read most of those books for school and I loved them. The Great Gatsby, In the Time of the Butterflies, Catcher and the Rye, All the Pretty Horses. We read a lot of books for my English class. Right now I have to read The Awakening and In Cold Blood for that class.

You get to read THAT MANY for school??? We only read two this year...although one turned out to be one of my faves (A Tale of Two Cities). What grade are you in?

message 9: by Maxine (new)

Maxine Dexter (maxinedexter) | 69 comments Oh I just remembered another great book that I love. Well two. I can't believe I forgot them

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte-IT'S AMAZING!! It's exciting, it's thrilling, you won't be able to put it down and it's like the birth of soap operas. ((If you like Twilight...Eclipse is like a carbon copy of this book))

Emma by Jane Austen-Fun exciting but warning, you'll never look at men the same way after reading any sort of Jane Austen novel. ((Any Clueless fans? Clueless is loosely based off this book))

message 12: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Gourlay (nicholasgourlay) My three favorite novels currently are:

1)East of Eden by John Steinbeck
2)I Never Liked You: A Comic Book by Chester Brown
3)On Writing by Stephen King

But things always change esp. my likes.

message 13: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileyr9350) yeah, the inkheart movie was really crammed all together, they could have made it better if they made three movies. I mean really...It makes no sense!

~Hello...name unpronounceable! Welcome. I have not heard of that book...it sounds interesting, what's it about?

~Nicholas: I have not read those books, but I think I've heard of them. Are they good?

~Snickerdoodle: I know! Like, for example, how did Mo find Dustfinger and why IN THE HELL did he read him back?? And how??
BTW: I have a cat named Snickers and we call her Snickerdoodle...so in an odd way you remind me of my cat...I'm sorry, just had to say that...

message 15: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileyr9350) Really...I was trying not to say that though, cause some people here might want to watch the movie and i didn't want to accidentally spoil anything...You didn't though.

2nd part of your message to me:
It's ok!! My cousin has a cat named Snickers, but my name on goodreads is what my brother sometimes called me when I was little. Long story. I feel like telling it though!

When my brother and I were little, we often went shopping with my mom because we were both homeschooled. I sat in the stroller, and pretended to be a naughty kid who was even younger than me. My name would be Snickerdoodle in the game. My brother would push me around in the stroller and pretend to be my dad. I would knock things off the shelves that weren't breakable, and he would pick them back up and say, "Snickerdoodle no!" and scold me like that. It was really fun! (It was funny to, but you had to be there.)

Oops...sorry peoples...

LOL I wish I had memories like that, it sounds fun!
Sometimes my little cousin and I play a game where she's the mommy and I'm a bad little 4 year old...so yeah. It's fun to pretend you're younger than you are, huh?

message 17: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileyr9350) Yeah, I love doing that kinda stuff! (I don't like being the mom though lol, GOOD JOB MOMS IN THE WORLD!! I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU STAND IT)

Yeah, I know, right? I help out in the nursery and stuff at my church...some people's kids, I swear! I don't know how those parents can do it...and then I look at all the little angelic kids, and think of how much harder their parents had to work to keep them that way!

message 19: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe I love The Host by Stephenie Meyer. It's nothing like the Twilight Saga. I would recommend it. Should I read the Inkheart stuff?

message 20: by Tia Todd, I am addicted to Mountain Dew and Adam Gontier's voice. (new)

Tia Todd StJohn (firedancer) | 506 comments Mod
I definitely think you should! Inkheart, Inkspell, Inkdeath...best three months of my life. Nothing I have ever read is better, in my opinion, and Twilight barely comes close.

message 21: by A. (last edited Apr 30, 2009 03:12PM) (new)

I'll look up that one...it DOES sound interesting.

message 23: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe Twilight wasn't really good. Me and my friend are writing a "sixth one". It's funny(ish).

message 24: by Tia Todd, I am addicted to Mountain Dew and Adam Gontier's voice. (new)

Tia Todd StJohn (firedancer) | 506 comments Mod
Sixth? What about fifth? Or are they counting Midnight Sun as the fifth?

I reread the first Twilight book after I read Inkheart...a WORLD of difference. I realize that I only kept reading the Twilight saga because of Edward...

You know, really I was interested in vampires WAY before Twilight...and I think it's weird that they sparkle in the sun and don't have fangs. Vampires should have fangs. It's like...a rule.

message 25: by A. (new)

A. (acharc) woa i didnt even know there were sooo many twilight books!!! i didnt think there was more then 3 let alone 6! O_o and i reeely love vampire books!!!

Yes, there are Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Then there is Midnight Sun, from Eddie's point of view, and then Anuhea's apparent obsessed friends are writing a sixth.

We are making fun of Twilight. That's why there's a sixth.

I do suggest that if you haven't read them, you should. Not because they're "the best ever" or anything; just because basically everyone in the world has read them. Best to keep in the loop, right?

message 33: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe It's not something that you'd go CRAZY over. Well, not me. I like your name. It's cool!!

message 34: by A. (new)

A. (acharc) Tia: ya i was thinking i shood read them...every1 i know has read at least the first one!

Anuhea -JePOw!-: THANKS! ^__^ me tu hehehe

message 35: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe They talk about it a lot too. Once they read it. They brag sometimes...

message 36: by Tia Todd, I am addicted to Mountain Dew and Adam Gontier's voice. (new)

Tia Todd StJohn (firedancer) | 506 comments Mod
Yeah, if you only read one, read the first one. The first book of any series is the best.

I have a friend who has been stuck on the third book for longer than it took me to read Inkspell and Inkdeath. And Inkdeath took me awhile.

message 37: by A. (last edited Apr 30, 2009 04:04PM) (new)

A. (acharc) i kinda wanna see what it is every1s so intrested in...who knows maybe it is gud

message 38: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe THe movie was really bad (for Twilight). I read the book, watched the movie. Ugh. *shudders*

The movie sucked. Robert whatever-his-last-name-is is ugly as sin...yet none of my friends seem to share that opinion.

I always read the book before the movie now, and I always end up hating the movie, but if I watch the movie first I will be deprived the opportunity to imagine the characters how I want to.

I have never had my own idea of what Harry Potter looked like. :'( It's kind of depressing.

message 40: by A. (last edited May 01, 2009 10:34AM) (new)

A. (acharc) ya it sucks tu watch then read, i avoid that as much as possible! but it nevr fails that the characters yu imagine in yur head, betr depict the characters in the book more then whoevr it is they pick tu play the part. and alot of times i find that they do stupid little things like; in the book say he/she had black hair and in the movie they go and screw it up giving the character brown or any color BUT what it sez in the book...
i used tu have my own idea of what harry lukd like when i 1st started reading it..but that was so long ago that i cant rumember. his movie version tuk ovr :\

hahaha i nevr heard that one b4, "ugly as sin" thats funny

I know, it's fricking annoying.

REeally? My evil history teacher uses that expression. He's a weirdo.

I'm sorry but could you please type in proper English when you're typing that much? It's kind of hard to read...if you're just typing a little thing it's okay but that took me way longer than it should have.

message 42: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe Robert Pattinson is ugly as sin. SO NOT PERFECT LIKE A VAMPIRE!

message 43: by Bailey (new)

Bailey (baileyr9350) I am just not even going to read twilight...Not interested!! I don't like vampires. Everyone fantasizes them, and acts like they are good creatures and stuff, but they're evil! they suck peoples blood!

It's okay...and you're not that bad a speller.

What browser do you use? Interned Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome...?

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion..I could read them over and over. I also love Jane Eyre.
