After finishing this book, I was struck by the contrast between Peter's personality, and the personalities of his parents. Vivien & Sebastian are sensitive, caring people. Peter is uptight and judgmental - as least that's how he appears to Claire and the reader.

He is a product of the 60's political culture. Ugh. And you will notice Claire is also a product of the drinking, party going culture as well. They gave no thought to doing foolish things at the time, like getting drunk, going sliding and so forth. Typical 60's BS...smoking too while pregnant....
