This is one of the new "Bestsellers," which I read because it got a really good review in LJ. It's a novel made of stories, and I really liked it. The characters are mostly ne'er do wells who suffer from past and present pain. A Winesburg, Ohio feel, but a different voice. Check it out.

I'll have to check that out. I notice that we've got a book in the bestseller collection that Amazon thinks I would like: Yiddish policemen's union : a novel / Michael Chabon.
Doug should be able to comment on the "Yiddish Policemen"- I think he read it? As for "Later at the Bar", the title did catch my interest- glad to hear it's worthwhile...
