Please nominate Cyberpunk suggestions!

According to Wikipedia:Cyberpunk is a postmodern science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life." It features advanced science, such as information technology and cybernetics, coupled with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order.

Cyberpunk plots often center on a conflict among hackers, artificial intelligences, and megacorporations, and tend to be set in a near-future Earth, rather than the far-future settings or galactic vistas found in novels such as Isaac Asimov's Foundation or Frank Herbert's Dune. The settings are usually post-industrial dystopias but tend to be marked by extraordinary cultural ferment and the use of technology in ways never anticipated by its creators ("the street finds its own uses for things").

Please note that we have previously read Neuromancer

Oh, good choice, I have Thirteen on my unread book self.

I have read Halting State and enjoyed the book. I have about 50 unread Sci-Fi books out of about 400 that I have read. The time periods before retirement was buy the books or they will be out of print and hard to get. At the digital age, that fear is now gone. I can now get any book at any time.

these are all great! I wouldnt mind any single one of them!

message 8: by Scott (new)

Scott I have both Pattern Recognition and Halting State so either would be cool by me.

message 9: by Mickey (new)

Mickey | 623 comments I have read Halting State and Snow Crash, both excellent, so I would not prefer them. I have read three of Gibson's books, Pattern Recognition is not one of them, so that would be fine with me also. I do have the book "Thirteen" that I have not read and that book would be cool to me :)

message 10: by Ric (new)

Ric (ricaustria) | 20 comments I started Thirteen and dropped it after the first few chapters. If the group chooses this book, I will try it out again.

message 11: by Zac (new)

Zac | 41 comments Nice and timely! I'm just about to finish Count Zero and up next I was planning on reading Hardwired so I'll nominate that!

message 12: by Mickey (last edited Jun 18, 2013 11:52AM) (new)

Mickey | 623 comments I know only one nomination is allowed.
Therefore I will not nominate this book as I have also read this one as well.

I do NOT nominate this odd but very good book by Vernor Vinge Rainbows End

I can feel the whips on my back already :)

My punishment for listing more than one book.

message 15: by Dan (last edited Jun 19, 2013 07:34AM) (new)

Dan I just want to say we do have a list of cyberpunk novels here at Goodreads. Almost 70% of the books (#1 through #50 for the most part) on the list are even actually truly of the Cyberpunk genre! Shakespeare's Othello, the Dune books, and the Foundation series are not cyberpunk. John M. Ford's Web of Angels (1980) is generally considered the first work in the genre. Cyberpunk is defined by more than just having a dystopia. There are some surprising omissions though, such as Marianne de Pierres' excellent work. Australians always seem to get short shrift, don't they? The list is a good start.

Dan I nominate Marianne de Pierres' Nylon Angel.

I voted and added some indies such as
Better than Real and Virtually True, and a couple of oldies-but-goodies by Daniel Keys Moran.

Hmm... While reading today "Consider Phlebas by Iain M Banks", I ran across this sentence in chapter 13.

"Well,” she said, arching one eyebrow, “that was one way of proving its innocence.”

Since you are a fan of Iain M Banks, is this the source of your inspiration? ;)
