Jess (jesmy777) What are you dying to read next month?

Give us your contemporary and classic picks!

message 2: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) The Call of Cthulhu is my classics pick. I want something short and creepy.

I've got nothin'. Still swimming through Les Mis.

Maybe literally because I only read it in the bathtub.

But seriously that bitch is a giant brick and I'll be at it for a while. I'm 1/3 down atm.

Alyson | 5 comments Oooo now that it's officially out, I've been looking forward to this:

Lexicon Lexicon by Max Barry

message 6: by Alyson (new)

Alyson | 5 comments And for the summer classic, maybe something beachy or oceany like Robinson Crusoe?

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura | 54 comments I've been dying to read We Have Always Lived in the Castle, so yes to that!

message 9: by Samantha A (new)

Samantha A I actually have We Have Always Lived in the Castle in my possession from the library, but i'm finishing up Heart-Shaped Box first.

I want to suggest The Art of Love by ONTDer Anne Whitney, mostly because she could use some sales to help her achieve her goal of world domination and to pay me for promoting it while she sits at her cushy desk job. Plus, only $2.99 and total ONTD territory. One of the supporting characters is a RuPaul's Drag race loser.

Laura | 54 comments Another suggestion - perhaps Where'd You Go, Bernadette? I've heard good things about it, but then I learned it's written by a woman who worked on Arrested Development and I want to read it even more now. It'd be a great ONTD book, I think!

I second The Art of Love nom.

message 14: by Emily (last edited Jun 21, 2013 05:08AM) (new)

Emily | 13 comments I have two contemporary picks on my to-read list this summer:

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes and The Heist (O'Hare and Fox #1) by Janet Evanovich

The Shining Girls caught my eye after I read a review of it in the NYT. Also, some girl is hunting a time-traveling serial killer; how could I not want to read it?

The Heist is the beginning of a new series by Janet Evanovich, and I loved the Stephanie Plum series, so I really want to give that a try.

message 15: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) For contemporary, I think I'll nom This is How You Lose Her. I just finished it and really enjoyed it.

message 16: by Denisse (new)

Denisse | 16 comments I nom Red Dragon, the Hannibal season finale made me want to know more and since it's such a long wait to next season, then the books will do.

message 17: by Amy B (new)

Amy B (blackicebooks) | 51 comments I started Peter Pan last night, so I'll nominate that for Classic of the Month.

message 18: by Robyn Courtney (new)

Robyn Courtney Brodrick | 1 comments I second Where'd You Go Bernadette.

message 19: by Kate (new)

Kate (katieem) | 2 comments Laura wrote: "I've been dying to read We Have Always Lived in the Castle, so yes to that!"

This looks like a good read!

message 20: by Mia (new)

Mia (mia-culpa) | 67 comments Gregory Maguire's Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister? I'm trying to find beach reads.

message 21: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I have to admit, I'm kind of thinking of using July as my catch-up month for all the books I'm behind on for the year... I'm looking at you pile of classics and Lemony Snicket!

Sophie How about Neil Gaiman's new book The Ocean at the End of the Lane?

Oh yes I love Neil :) sounds good

message 27: by Marie (last edited Jun 27, 2013 07:06AM) (new)

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 125 comments The Ocean at the End of the Lane is so incredibly good. It's short, though; it feels more like a novella than a novel, but with Gaiman, even the shortest stories are filled with detail and memorable characters.

I won't have a nomination this month because I'm sure I won't have time to read along with everyone (like with the June pick), but whichever book(s) is/are chosen, I'll be sure to add it to my queue (if it's not there already).
