Interested in find books that are retellings of the story of bluebeard. Have already read:
Strands of Bronze and Gold and Fitcher's Brides and some literary commentary on the story.

Thanks, Kate, for suggestions. Now that I see the titles by Vonnegut and Atwood, I think I've read them, but will have to double-check. Probably worth re-reads in any case.

I have Alice Hoffman's Blue Diary on my TBR, but she generally just incorporates themes from fairy tales and does't follow their plots very strictly.

Something someone told me made me think Mr. Fox by Helen Oyeyemi had something to do with Bluebeard, or at least was based on a similar tale, but I don't remember exactly what was said, and it's still on my TBR.

If you like graphic novels, you might enjoy The Scholarly Banana Presents Fitcher's Bird: A Classic Fairy Tale from the Brothers Grimm by Karly West. This series is really creative and quirky. You might find it fun :)

Bluebeard's daughter is the main character but he does play a part in this fun book.
