I've never read anything by him. Does Daniel Silva espouse one-sided political ideology or is he more even-handed and delves into the complexity of political issues?

Daniel Silva casts a wide net of suspense/intrigue. You must remember that the main characters are all members of the Mossad. What that means is that Silva writes about stories that affect Israel. What he does NOT do is to disparage other political groups in an effort to glamorize Israel. He addresses the Muslim world as terrorists but also concentrates on those in the Arab world that are not radical terrorists. He takes on the Catholic church head on in several books. However, the primary character, Gabriel Allon, has a very personal and positive relationship with upper level Catholic bishops and priests. I personally believe he has no agenda other than writing fanulous books that are highly entertaining and readable. He is clearly my favorit author followed closely by Ken Follett.
He references W. Bush in a somewhat positive way and Obama in a slightly negative way, but it is from the Israeli perspective and it doesn't come across as overly political. He looks at other nations' politics in the same way.
I've read two of Silva's novels so far, his latest (The English Girl) and now his first Gabriel Alon, The Kill Artist. My own take, after having read a fair amount on the history of Zionism, Israel, and the Middle East more generally, is that he's reasonably evenhanded when taking on the Israeli/Palestinian issue, so much so that I would wager the extreme right in Israel and the equivalent in the territories would dislike him intensely. I found his take on Russia and the UK in his latest to be similarly evenhanded.
I have read and have all of Silva's novels. As with Bill, he is may favorite contemporary novelist by far.
What I like most about his writing is that he treats the reader with respect. He has a point of view, to be sure, but that point is necessary to provide the story a feeling of truthfulness that moves it along at a good pace.
We don't distrust his premiss. We follow the tale where it takes us. He is a story teller, and he tells it in well crafted sentences and precise and meaningful words. In that respect he is almost unique as a author in my book.
I enjoy his work but I would hope for a new view, characters and perhaps venue. I thought he made a good start (before the Alon series) with "The Mark of the Assassin" but for some reason he did not develop that thread. I hope he has another.
So, for those who care: he is a writer. A good writer with a viewpoint that for the most part informs and rarely gets in the way of his story. He always has a proper story; with a beginning middle and end. He seems intelligent and treats his readers accordingly.
I am glad he decided to write novels rather than newspaper articles.

I couldn't say it better than Mike ... above me
Been reading Silva for a couple years and every time I look for a new author writing spy novels I come back to DS. His writings offer such an education into the middle east together with great story. he is one of my favorites without a doubt. A question for fellow Silva readers, did Gabriel obtain a divorce from his wife, Leah, before marrying Chiara ? She was in institution following terrorist act which injured her and killed their son.
