Hello book lovers! My name is Cindy and I started this group out of frustration from falling behind on group/buddy reads. I wanted to create a place for people who lack spare time and/or just don't read quite as fast as their friends. Feel free to tell the group something about yourself (genres read, favorite authors, etc). I have been hooked on horror/thrillers lately myself. Read all genres, but more fiction than non-fiction. This is the first group I've created, so bear with me and I will add discussions a little at a time. Just have fun!

message 2: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Hey Cindy, thanks for the invite! This is a great idea!

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been wanting to do this for a while Chuck, but I wasn't sure I would be able to figure out how to do the group thing. Thanks for joining!

message 4: by Nishtha (last edited Jun 22, 2013 02:52AM) (new)

Nishtha Jindal (nishthajindal) Hi people! I'm a young reader, merely 13! I'm a fast reader but because of my school, I don't get much time to read. I read almost all genres but these I'm reading thrillers, mysteries or science fiction. I'm looking forward to reading with you all!

message 5: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Hi I am Sam a foster carer so my reading speed varies depending on how hectic the home life is.

Love all types of book my crime thrillers are my favourite. Karin Slaughter especially

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group Nishtha and Sam!

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen (jen6814) | 4 comments Hi! My name is Jenny, and I have always considered myself a slow reader, but since I "retired" (well, quit working, anyway) last fall I've been spending more time at it. I lean heavily towards mysteries, but read many bestsellers of other types, classics, romance, etc. Will generally read any new book by Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb. Also have read the entire Stone Barrington series by Stuart Woods and the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group Jenny!

message 9: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Cindy! I'm so glad that you decided to get your group up and running! Thank you for the invite, it'a a pleasure to be here!!

message 10: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Hello everyone, my name is J. R. I am an artist and a entrepreneur with lots of time on my hands, however Im a person that loves to keep busy. I work on art consistently , every night when going to bed and not distracted( which happens a lot around weekend time) I read for an hour. I just started reading a lot more at the beginning of the year, and I'm on sci fi binge and can't seem to get off. I love any book that can keeping me guessing and I don't have to force myself to finish. Anyways, Cindy your awesome thanks for the invite and I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the table!!

message 11: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (shazzacatzz) | 45 comments Hi all, my name is Sharon and I can be either incredibly fast, or slow reader, depending on the work/life balance happening at the time. I am a mother of 1 young adult and 1 teenager and work full time out of the house. I do most of my reading late at night and on weekends, and tend to "binge read" ... that is after spending a week or more just getting through one book, I may then go on to read 3 or more over the space of a couple of days, particularly if I am on vacation. I usually have about 3 books " on the go" at any time, currently I am reading Red by Libby Gleeson, Game of Thrones Book One by George Martin and Gallows View by Peter Robinson. I read mostly mystery, horror and a little bit of fantasy, the occasional memoir and do like to be challenged sometimes so will read "literature". I am usually bored by romance! I am a teacher-librarian so read a fair amount of children's and YA literature for work... not that I find that an imposition!

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura Thomas (laurathomas) | 10 comments Hi ya'll. I'm laura and I love reading all books and reviewing them just as much. I wish I had a job that involved nothing but reading. Sounds like Heaven.

Thank you Evans, for the invite. A recommendation from you is always welcome!

message 13: by Philip (new)

Philip McClimon (philmwrites) | 4 comments Hello, Phil here. Thanks for the invite!

The speed at which I read is largely determined by my interest level. If I am really into the book I get ravenous and chew through it. I hate not to finish something so if I do not like the book I slog through at a snail's pace. Love sci fi, Dystopian, post apocalyptic, thriller and action/adventure. Parody and farcical are good too. Looking forward to the group.

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 79 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Michelle. I love reading, mostly horror/thriller but I'll usually read anything that comes with a good recommendation too. I'll also read the occasional bio. or historical book. Looking forward to a group I can keep up with ... hopefully.

Nice to meet you all.

message 15: by Evans (last edited Jun 22, 2013 05:52PM) (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) Hi Evereeboddee!

I'm Evans, and want to say thanks to Cindy for the invitation to join this group.

Since I'm a writer who also loves to read, time is a constant battlefield: do I spend it reading the ever-growing stack of wonderful books on my nightstand and Kindle, or do I spend it working on finishing my next project? I try to do both, which means reading time gets cut in half (or more).

Like Edward Lorn mentioned above, audiobooks have been another way for me to pack a little more reading time into my life lately. Instead of wasting time behind the wheel, I've been working my way through some good books in the car. Currently listening to some Richard Laymon in the car (THE CELLAR) and about to finish up Joe Hill's exquisite NOS4A2 at home on my Kindle Paperwhite (the first ereader I've had good luck with).

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know everyone here, making some new friends, and discovering some great new authors and books.

Hi Michelle. I'm new here too and I also have a first love for horror and thrillers.

Looking forward to talking books with ya.

message 19: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Hi! Thanks Evans for the invite. Looking forward to meeting some fellow readers here. I am not really a casual reader but I just started to get addicted to reading the past couple of years. I love looking at what people read and perhaps adding that to my TBR list. I am a part-time accountant and part-time substitute teacher so I try to get my love of reading to the students I teach. Leaving a review is important to me as I love to share my passion and it's important to the author's success.

Mallory Oatman | 6 comments Hello Everyone my name is mallory I am also a slow reader due to the fact I have two small children thanks for the invite Evans

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy (amybosica) Hi everyone,
My name is Amy. I have two young kids, but am not really a slow reader. I've just become passionate about books over the last year and a half and I'm always on the look out for great books.
Thanks Evans for the invite!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I huge shout out to Evans for helping me get this group going. I came home from a day out at the zoo and had a bunch of posts here. Welcome to everyone! I am excited about the group and look forward to discussing books with all of you.

Tara | 2 comments Hey. My name is Tara. I love reading always wanted to join a book club but have no time!! with kids and work im a slow reader!! This one sounds perfect for me to try. Looking foward to reading with everyone!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Tara!

message 26: by Tara (new)

Tara | 2 comments Thanks. I have never been part of one of these before so I'm not sure how it works. Do we read our own book and review it or read suggested books? Sorry for the silly question but I'm really not sure.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Tara - there are several ways to read a book in this group at your own pace without the time constraint pressure.

1. Find a buddy who is interested in the same book you would like to read and who reads at a similar pace. I have started a section entitled "buddy reads".

2. I am going to post a couple of group reads a month (maybe three if they aren't too long). The group reads will have a start and end date that should be comfortable for most people. Also, I will start a discussion on the book and you can post comments at your own leisure.

3. Read a book solo and start a discussion of that particular book under the books thread.

message 28: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Hello, my name is Rick. Thank you Evans for the invite, I'm looking forward to joining a group that is brand new, and appears to be eclectic in reading interests. I love to read, whether it's fiction or nonfiction. I guess I will always have a preference for horror, but lately I've tried reading more classics. I also like to swap back and forth between fiction and nonfiction, and enjoy just about everything...well...not a big romance reader...

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I too will switch back and forth from fiction to nonfiction and don't care a lot for romance. Welcome to the group Rick.

message 30: by Erica (new)

Erica (bookpsycho) Hey everyone, I'm Erica. Thank you for the invite Evans. I will try any genre at least once, but my "true love" will always be horror. Looking forward to great group reads.

message 31: by Diane (new)

Diane | 76 comments Thanks for inviting me Evans. Glad to be on board. I look forward to being part of this group.

message 32: by Jane (new)

Jane Doe Hello all,
I'm Jane. Thank you for the invite Evans. I love all different genres. I'm a mom of 3 children, my middle child is a profoundly disabled adult son living at home and needs full time care. I'm not a slow reader but I like having lots of time to read a book without pressure.
This looks like a great group can't wait to do some buddy reads or group reads.

message 33: by Ella (new)

Ella Medler (ellamedler) | 1 comments As soon as I saw the reference to 'little spare time' I knew I found somewhere I belong. Hi to all of you who already know me. Nice to meet you to all my new friends. I'm an editor, author, book reviewer and blogger. In my spare time I sleep and eat. Usually in that order. I should be skinny, but life's not that fair!

message 34: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (h0ckeygrrl) | 1 comments Hi,
My name is Kristen and I work as a toddler teacher and that keeps me pretty busy so I don't get to read as much as I would like to or as fast as I would like to. Thanks for the invite to the group.

Evans Light (evanslight) Glad to see so many of my friends finding this group to be a good fit for them. This is going to be fun!

message 40: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (shazzacatzz) | 45 comments Can I ask that everyone also tell us where they are from - I notice over in Horror there was talk about location - that enjoment that comes from recognising the location! Also I noticed Dianne had a Koala as her DP and I am immediately wondering is she another Aussie? But on a more practical note, some book titles get renamed for different countries - this happens a lot with children's litrature but I have also noticed it with adult fiction, and some titles may not even be available in some places because of copyright restrictions.

So to start the ball rolling - I am from tropical North Queensland in Australia - a small city called Townsville.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome everyone! Sorry I was a bit late checking in tonight, but it's been a rough day. Sharon, you do have a valid point on the location problem. I didn't notice this myself until I a few of the authors were discussing it in some of the groups. Anyway, I'm from the United States. Always wanted to take a trip to Australia. Still on my wishlist.

message 48: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (crackedx_spine) Hello everyone! My name is Brittany, I'm 27 and from Maryland (U.S. for any international members...). I am a single momma to the most wonderful and amazing two year old little boy and as cliche as it sounds, he has literally been a lifesaver. I'm a computer studies major (programming & IT); I had recently changed my major to computer studies. I was pre-nursing for two years and was completely miserable. I also have a minor in English. Due to a busy work load with school and everything, I didn't have much time for myself to read. And I'm finally off all summer, so I've been relishing it. Hopefully once September comes, it won't be as busy as the past two years.

I hope to get to know some of you! :) I'm in a couple groups that are small groups. But I can never do the group reads and feel like I can't keep up. This group might be perfect.

message 49: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 47 comments I'm in Brooklyn, New York.

message 50: by Char (new)

Char I'm Charlene (Char) and I'm from the state of MA.

I'm actually a fast reader (usually) and read quite a bit. I have a group on Shelfari that reads one horror book per week. I don't only read horror-I do enjoy some true crime, biographies, mysteries, and fantasy, but horror will always be my first love.

Giving a shout out to E! *waving*
