Bad Reading Habits

That's interesting. I read from start to finish but sometimes I get so eager to know what's happening that I will read further down the page. But I never go over the page!I have a habit of starting a book, and if it doesn't grab me in the first couple chapters then I will stop reading. I may have abandoned some good books along the way.

Yes....there may be a lot of good books you missed....some books don't yet start that well...but later on become really good!

I read the book and when I am 80% - 90% through, I get on Goodreads and start reading others reviews. And Sometimes I read them after the book but before adding my review. And then the struggle to be unbiased towards any of the reviews begins. That is why at times I dont review the books I finish as soon as I am done reading, because I have the voice of other reviewers in my mind telling me what they thought.
That spoils so much of the fun, I know I need to stop it. But curiosity gets it everytime.

i had a bad habit of first readthe article of the book in wikipedia or any other source and then start reading..

Even I sometimes do that....skip huge, boring paragraphs to know what happens next....I also skip the parts where they describe the history of different characters in the book and describe their stories....seems too boring to me.

Even I do this....gosh! I've got so many bad reading habits...:P :P Whenever the books gets too boring for me, I read its summary in the net, and if it interests me....then only do I continue with the book.

I get busy and stop reading books for 2 weeks or so at times.. and I've also developed this bad habit of skipping pages, only when reading classics. When I get weary of reading about landscape and weather, I skip a page or two.And recently, I dunno why, after reading a book for a week or so, I lose interest in it and badly wanna read anew one. The same happens with the next one. And the next one. Does it happen to anyone else ?
yup its true...unnecessary description of nature setting which has no connection with the ongoing story..which is quite boring and forces to skip pages...
Yes it happens a lot...description of nature, descriptions of the house, history of the family, sometimes in some books history of the city or the history of the house......all such stuff make me skip pages or big paras. And that especially happens in classics.

Yes..happens with me too. I start reading a book, and after a week if the book hasn't got over, I wanna start reading a new one...And that's what makes me read more than 1 book together. For me, the first few chapters of the book have to be really captivating for enjoying the book completely...

I read in the nude with my hands behind my head. Guess how I turn the pages. HeHe!!
I hate books that are overly detailed.
I hate books that are overly detailed.
I know, right? Isn't it the editor's job to cut some of these details out?
Yeah exactly...I HATE page-long details which aren't actually mean much to the story...I usually sip 'em.
I skim through them. They're so annoying!

I read mostly at night when I have insomnia. Reading in the car makes me sick.
I love reading in a hammock...naked.

I read in the car too. As long as you are not reading and are the driver I wouldn't consider it a bad habbit. At least I don't.
Reading and driving don't mix. I also hate seeing people texting and driving. So dangerous.

I do that for classic books I'm interested in, but don't want to commit to just yet. I've done it so far for
"Les Mis"
"The Bell Jar"
and, "Lolita"
...
That's funny, I always read the last sentence of the entire book. Idk why I started doing that but I feel like I have to. sometimes I read a few lines ahead if I feel like I need to know what's happening right then
I am the same with Ruchi, i always read the ending before i even started reading the prologue, also i usually read the same line over and over again cause i didn't want to forget a single detail about a story. But despite that, i'm learning to change these habits
now, wish me luck!(Seriously, it's very annoying reading the same line over and over, once i even read a book for 1 month, with only just 200 pages!!)
Reading at work. Oops. Sometimes when a book's so good I can't help myself reading some chapters at the office...

Whenever I read a book and manage to read more than half of it through I just go to the last page of the book and read the last page then I carry on reading from I left off.. :P
I can never close my book in the middle of a chapter. It doesn't matter where I am or what I am doing, I have to read to the next chapter or the next break in the text.
I skip ahead a lot...especially if I feel like I can't wait to see what happens. I kick myself everytime I do it.
Like some others, I sometimes start reading reviews before I've finished. My main bad habit is critiquing as I go. It comes from being a writer and member of a critique group. It's ruined some of the fun of reading, unfortunately.
Every once in awhile I dogearHave the bad habit lately of starting too many books at once
Skim through the boring parts

Mine's really weird. I move my tongue as I'm reading...as if I'm speaking or something. I find myself doing it and have to stop myself and then it becomes a battle. WHAT DO I DO with my tongue????
I always read the end it really sucks it's like I have this reflex. I tell myself no but I do it anyway. My mom said she does the same thing and I was like thanks mom now it's in my genes. I've been trying harder now though it usually takes a big secret or something I'm anticipating to happen to look ahead now but it's a habit and I just can't stop it
Lol alexandria....i skip paragraphs and jump to conversations. Coz any story change can be made out of those. Well in romance i suppose.
I also go to reviews in goodreads and read every hidden spoilers....it's like right there in front of you...how can you not???
Not bad so much as weird is that I have to know how many pages and how many chapters are in the book before I begin. I also have to read the synopsis right before I start to read

What are your bad reading habits ?
