So there's 12 months in a year. We need at least 12 challenges LOL :) So if you have an idea, even the slightest, don't hesitate to put it down here :D remember, this is a MONTHLY challenge group so make sure the challenge can last a month.

IDEAS SO FAR..
*2,000 pgs.
*Spy novels
*Numbers in titles
*Books of the Month
*Rainbow Challenge
*You Pick, I Pick (partners)
*Fiction & Non
*Books to Movies
*Ice Cream Challenge
*Horror Challenge (during Halloween)
*FALL in Love (during Autumn)

Brittany Have a month in which we read books that have numbers in the titles?

For example:

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey Article 5 (Article 5, #1) by Kristen Simmons Mila 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1) by Debra Driza Monument 14 (Monument 14, #1) by Emmy Laybourne Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

@Brittany: Absolutely :) will def. keep this in mind.

message 4: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Cool! I've been meaning to read all of those. XD

I'm looking forward to the 2000 page one, too.

message 5: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) I know a big challenge for me is getting myself to read non-fiction. I always mean to but then call of fiction pulls me in. There could be non-fiction challenges.
I like the # book idea. Things like that. One that always cracks me up is reading a book with a MC that has the same name as me. It gets me out of my usual genres.

message 6: by Brittany (new)

Brittany I think a nonfiction challenge would be fun. Don't laugh, but I have a couple cat based books I'm wanting to read (Cleo, for example), so I'd participate in it. I don't know if I'd be able to find a whole month's worth of nonfiction, though.

Maybe it can be a weekly/mini challenge?

how about a mixed? We could call it "Fiction and Non" Challenge? but the nonfiction books would have to be aimed for young adults tho cause it's a ya group

we could also have Classics Challenge.. cause u know how we have a bunch of reading requirements during high school like Great Gatsby, Animal Farm, Catcher in the Rye blah blah.. would you guys like that? It could be Nonfiction & Classics Challenge so it wouldn't just be a bunch of classics read all month.

Tessa (tessanewberry) (view spoiler) I put my comment under spoiler for being so long! It's not an actual spoiler.

@Tessa: oooh I was thinking that too (having multiple challenges in a month). How many challenges should we do per month? (we could split this up). Should we also have a group read that is related to one of the challenges theme? I really like the ideas!

message 11: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) I would do 4:
1. Page Count
2. Non-Fic
3. Book of the Month (this could envelop classics, culture, anything.)
4. Misc.

I think having the misc is important because it's easy to have fun with it! :)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
Yeah 4 would be good. But the Book of The Month, I wasn't thinking of it as a challenge, I was thinking of having like members nominate 2 books and if it gets nominated twice, then it would go on the poll and people could vote which book we should read as a group & whatever book wins, we could have discussions about it. That book could also count on the challenges.

I was also thinking of having this kind of challenges:
1. Dystopian
2. Contemporary
3. Sci-fi
4. Fantasy

or like

1. Rainbow Challenge (where the book cove has to have one of the rainbow colors)
2. You Pick, I Pick Challenge (where members would have partners & the partner would have to choose books from their partner's TBR pile)
3. Winter Challenge (they have to read books that involves a holiday or a book that was published during winter, or a book that takes place during winter). We could also have Summer Challenge, Spring Challenge, and Fall Challenge.. but the thing is.. not all of us live in the same country :\
4. Books to Movie Challenge

but for Nonfiction, it has to be related to young adult

message 13: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) Sounds good:)Oh yeah I forgot about that. Maybe non-fic doesn't work then

But aren't there non fiction books aimed for young adults? Idk, we'll still have a non fiction challenge though, but it wouldn't be every month cause I think it's hard to find ya non-fiction :/ so should we add 3 more challenges for July? I could be in charge of 2 challenges, and you could be in charge of the other 2?

message 15: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) I'm down for that :) and I have no idea honestly.... I'm sure there are. I usually read non-fiction like Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking or You Say More Than You Think: Use the New Body Language to Get What You Want!, The 7-Day Plan.

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
Yeah, we'll figure it out :) So what challenges should we do? You could create a thread for the 2 and I'll create the other one.. Hmm I think I wanna do a Books to Movie challenge since there's a bunch of books being made into a movie. And I think we should title the threads like this:

July 2013 - 2000 pgs.
July 2013 - Books to Movies

yeah?

message 17: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Just want to say I like the idea of multiple challenges.

I'd love to see You Pick, I Pick Challenge this month. Plus it can be done more than once a year since we'll have different partners. :)

message 18: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
@Brittany: same here :D It would be fun to have partners. But maybe we'll do it next month cause we only have 22 members so far.

message 19: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) Leigh: Yeah that looks like the easiest to understand setup. I'm going to message you for the rest of the details okay?

message 20: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
for sure

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
So I'm eating an ice cream right now and I just thought of an idea.. we should have an Ice Cream Challenge! Basically the color of the ice cream should match the color of the book cover.. like Cookies n' Cream = book cover with white & black

message 22: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) I like it :) Keep pouring out ideas! haha

message 23: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
I'm so random xD lol getting inspired by an ice cream

message 24: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) Well ice cream is the bomb.com

message 25: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Of course we're gonna need a "scary" book challenge in October. :)

message 26: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
@Tessa: true true!
@Brittany: haha of course :D That could be like the Horror Challenge.

message 27: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) Of course! And something special for Thanksgiving:)

message 28: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
oh yeah! We'll def. have a special challenge for Thanksgiving

message 29: by Brittany (new)

Brittany For Thanksgiving = Books with food on the cover. :D

Leigh (leighsalv) | 80 comments Mod
Ooh I love your idea!

message 31: by Kate (last edited Jun 25, 2013 05:38PM) (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) You could always try a board game type challenge like the YA Buddy Reader's Corner did with Clue. You can pick a board game and decide how to match different types of books with different characters or elements of the game.

message 32: by Briana (new)

Briana (bri_books_galore) I pick the dystopian* idea...I love dystopian related novel's

message 33: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessanewberry) Kaitlin: Leigh and I talked it over and we both love that idea but think we should wait until we're better settled on our feet to do something that complex. But it sounds AWESOME!

Briana: I agree. Dystopian books are awesome! We'll keep it high on the list for next month's genre challenge. For this month though, feel free to read as many dystopian books as you want and count them towards the 2,000 pages challenge!
