Natalie (Never trust a duck) I (try to) only buy books with the gift cards I receive for my birthday or Christmas. I also try to ask mainly for books for these holidays, and I use the library (FREE BOOKS!!) If you have a twitter and follow some publishing companies like Harperteen they sometimes post some cheep ebook deals. This website usually has some :)

Kate (kaitlins16) I read a lot (like my goal this year is 136 books), especially right now when I'm on summer break.

I don't have a library card (though I am working on it), so I buy almost all my books. It is very rare for me to spend more that ten bucks on one, though. I take advantage of any deals I want to, even if I know I won't be reading the book for a long time. I check very often for book deals and offers (most of them are ebooks). If the book isn't an ebook, I almost always buy it online because I can almost always save a few dollars that way. Also, if I find a used book that only costs a few dollars (shipping included), I would buy that one over the brand new one.

I try my very best to budget my money the best I can. I'm known to keep ahold of most of my money that I get as gifts or allowance for a long time. And outside of books, I don't buy much of anything, so it leaves more for my reading. :)

Sarah I buy nearly all of my books. Now I only get books when there on special offer or in deals. I'm more aware of money now. The book depository is a good website to get books from. They're really reliable, cheaper than most bookstores and have free worldwide delivery.

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah They have free ebook. I don't know if they have a big selection or not cause I only get physical copies of books from them.

Nordlys | 35 comments I am a huge fan of the library, I am there almost everyday:) Whenever I move somewhere new, that is the first thing I check where is. Grocery store and such I can check later:P

message 6: by Britt (new)

Britt (kalebsmome) I read my books very quickly so I can buy them then return them off my kindle on amazon. I do feel horrible for the authors and if its amazing I keep it but it def lets me manage my costs otherwise I'd literally be broke.

Becky (beckyspatterson) Savers is a great place to buy used books in good condition. Nothing over $2.99.

And as for those of you who prefer ebooks and have an iPad and a library card. Download the app 'Overdrive' and you can rent ebooks from your local library. Renting is all online through the app so you don't even have to leave your house.

James | 59 comments I . . . am from a really rich background . . . and I also get paid well at the small job I have at Google . . . I just go ahead and buy books if I want to read. But I don't buy books until I am postively sure they are worth it. I also don't buy more than 2 books in one visit to the store.

shrish (orshay) I envy you, James.

Silvia Meadows (smeadows1984) | 75 comments I do spend money on books. I have cut back, but just a little. I mainly buy hardcovers books, some paperbacks, and very little ebooks. I'm still trying to get used to reading on my nook. I am constantly browsing on barnesandnoble.com to find great deals and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when they send me coupons. I try to save some pennies, but most of the books I buy are just worth it or I can't wait to have and need it NOW. haha.

Yeah, I second that.

shrish (orshay) The idiot doesn't even lend me any. I have to be his slave for like a week for him to even consider lending me books.

Crystal Holdridge | 3 comments I live in Connecticut and am very lucky that I have the Book Barn in nearby Niantic, CT. They have three locations and over 500,000 books and it is very hard to find one over $4. Also I shop for books at Goodwill and our local libraries have book sales year round of gently used donated books for low costs (usually under $2 for hardcovers) As for new books Books A Million has wonderful sales!

message 15: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Holdridge | 3 comments Also with my Nook Color I went on Facebook and searched for "lend me buddies" and found tons of people to add to my lend me list so I now have hundreds of books I can borrow from others.

Camy (camytang) I check the Nook daily find for cheap ebooks.

Also many times the Kindle daily deal is the same price on Nook so I'll get the Nook version instead.
http://www.amazon.com/kindledailydeal/
I also check out the Nook blog on Fridays because they have one free ebook every Friday.

Michelle Sims (michelleellengrace) Op Shops or thrift shops as people call them in america are great. I was lucky to find Gone (Gone, #1) by Michael Grant for $2 yesterday and Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead for $3.

That is such a good bargain! I just finished Gone and it cost me more than ten dollars to buy it. And three dollars for Spirit Bound is almost unheard of.

I really want to go to the thrift shops in America but I live in Australia :(

Yeah I was really lucky, I hardly ever find anything. I live in Australia too so don't fear there are some good Op Shop books out there :)

message 22: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (miriammathew) There must be, I just keep on missing them. I live right near a thrift shop, Vinnies, and all the books they sell are either Harlequin romances or really really old classics.

You're welcome! Did u see they had Marked yesterday for $3????

Silvia Meadows (smeadows1984) | 75 comments I sure did! Great deals. Can't wait for the next great title. =0)

message 25: by Aubrey (new)

Aubrey | 1 comments I always buy books on my kindle - i have amazon prime, which means i get to borrow one book free once a month, which is nice. I mostly use the prime to get free 2-day shipping but the book deal is just icing on the cake

I use bookgorilla's free suggestions, as well as bookbub

Lendle.me is great - about 3 months ago I became a patron, which is like a one time fee of 20.00 or something. So i am able to be first in line to borrow books from people and i earn borrow credits super fast. right now I have like 70! I cant even imaging running through 70 books in the near future!

I love lendle the most because i can lend and borrow books constantly. But its also kind of a pain that alot of publishers don't allow e-book lending. So basically to cut costs i use lendle to get the books i want to read that are lending enabled, and either use the library or buy the books that aren't lendlng enabled.

Jojobean Ha I don;t have a book budget which is why I'm always broke :D

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I use the library, I reread my books a lot and well its cheaper to buy books online for me but money is still money so I do a relatively good job of sticking to a budsjett-ish thingy.

message 28: by Maya (new)

Maya Pankratz (simply__stardustx) | 98 comments I buy books when I can, but mostly get them form the library.

message 29: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (forebodinq) I mostly get my books from the library. If I get a book from there that I really love, I will then buy it - usually from the book depository, since it's the cheapest option for me.

I either borrow books from friends (since all of them are book nerds like me) or use the library. I have access to quite a good ones in town. If I can't get it from the library, then I check the Kindle price or try to get it on Amazon - but, really, I don't like reading off my Kindle. It's just not the same as paperback books.

Also, I'll reward myself with a couple of books when pay day comes around, too. :)

message 31: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jessilovesbooks) I'm a library girl! I'll probably hit around 175 books this year and my husband reads a lot too and not the sane books as me. And I tend to like to read books that are newer, so used isn't always an option. We just can't afford to buy all our books! Okay, well technically I guess we could, but we might not be able to afford food then! lol My husband and I each get an allowance each week (seriously, my idea to try to control his spending!), so if I buy a book it has to come out of that and so do groceries and household items and such. I tend to only buy a book if it's one that I want to re-read and keep forever.

For those of you who like ebooks, check out Oyster. For a monthly subscription, you get access to bunches of ebooks. And it looks like their selection is good. I decided not to join because my library has a decent selection of ebooks.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I love to buy them.... When I have the money

message 33: by Erin Lynn (new)

Erin Lynn | 10 comments I'm a book buyer. I have so many in my room and living room that I've run out of space. I can't do an e-reader because I get really bad migraines, and my neurologist would get so mad at me.

I tend to order new release from Amazon and Barnes and Noble because they are like twenty percent off. It's usually about the same discount at Target and Half Price Books (my HPB now has new releases).

I also go to Half Price Books and fill a basket full of books every once in a while. And I tend to look for books at thrift stores.

Oh, and if I'm lucky, my grandma will look for books for me. :)
