message 2: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) Nope. Jersey has no cases yet, apparently.

message 3: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 12 comments not personally, it has yet to officially appear here in MN.... but there's a couple almost positive cases in cold springs, which is abut 60 miles from where i am, and my friend says there's one possible case at his school, which is only like 15 miles away, so it could be soon...

Everyone is worried about the Swine Flu, but I hope my words and Facts will help ease your mind.
The Swine Flu in fact has no reports of being found in any Pigs tested so far, But is a Foregin Flu. What I mean is that it is new-to the world. Now if many of you know/remember your Biology on viruses in living organisms it will suddenly click how much less of a danger the Swine Flu really is.

The Swine Flu is Much like the typical yearly flu that will make you sick for about 1 to 2 days, it has the same symoptoms and everything. The only difference is it's shape. Yes, It's shape. You see every Virus has a specific shape, and the shape can change slightly, That's why there's a yearly vaccine for the flu>It's shape changes, but you're body can reconize certain virus shapes, and if your body knows the shape, it can kill it quickly. So quickly that you don't even know you're ill. When your body knows the shape it doesn't forget it and can kill it easily. This is being IMMUNED to that virus. and so as the common flu changes it's shape often, but only slightly each time, your body doesn't reconize it, but later then relizes that it's shape has some familarity, as it only changes slightly, and can then kill it. That is why when you get the flu, you are sick for about 2 days, but if you get it, and it's the shape of one your body already knows, you won't even know you are sick, your body can spot it and kill it rather quickly.
Bring this all back to the swine flu, because it came from some where, an adaption to change it's shape made it so it now infects humans and not what it infected before, so in a few decades immunity for this virus in what ever it attacked before won't be there and many humans will be immuned, but for know while our bodies are learning it's shape and how to kill it, it takes longer for us to fight it of, therefore making people with weak immune systems (like babies, Elderly, and people who have AIDS [undormant version of HIV:] are more likly to die from it, but people with weak immune systems can also die from a cold! So as long as you are healthy and not weak in the immune system if you catch it you'll just be sick for a few days. Only a little longer than if you caught the flu. So please don't let this scare you to where you must stop things you want to do in fear for your life.

You know, the Swine Flu might just be as my friend says, the government's just making a bug deal out of it to take our minds off the economy. Well if that's true, I guess it's working on most people!

that's just some stupid, thing made so people can make money right now in the bad Economy-Speaking of Which, My friend J.M. thinks that the government is only supporting making a big deal out of the Swine flu to cover up the Bad economy.

message 14: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Tonkin (morgsta) The swine flu is once again just another opportunity for the mass media to make a big deal over nothing. The World Health Organisation is overreacting to this so called 'epidemic' because some of the world is in a panic. They don't want to be seen as doing nothing just in case in the very unlikely event that the illness becomes a REAL epidemic.
The swine flu is JUST a flu. People die from the flu all around the world, everyday. Just because this is a new one makes it no more of a threat than any of the others. Those who have died from the swine flu are the same kind of people who die from the usual flu- elderly, young, sick and poor.
If the swine flu was truly as bad as the media makes it out to be there would be millions of people infected and thousands would have died by now. Instead the number of deaths is negligible.
In the third world far more people die from diahorrea and in the first world most people die from heart disease. Nobody seems to be in a panic about these.

yeah, but what about that lady that died from it in the US?

message 39: by Jayda (new)

Jayda One death out of almost 1000 cases.

message 40: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
well, it still is a death, we can't change that.

message 41: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I correct myself, 2831 cases.
One death out of nearly 3000 cases.
And no, we can't change that, but obviously it isn't as serious as they seem to make it. At least, not as serious yet.

message 42: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
YET! You are right, not as serious YET!

message 43: by Jayda (new)

Jayda But we don't know that it will get severely serious. We have a cure for it. The reason there were so many deaths in Mexico is because they didn't have a cure.

message 44: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) "2055253 well, it still is a death, we can't change that. "

The normal flu kills so many more people, malaria kills so many more, 10 deaths isn't a big deal compared to that.

message 45: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
Yeah, but we don't have a lot of the cure medicine.

message 46: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Where did you read/hear that?

message 47: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
I heard that like 3 weeks ago, from a friend. But I think that they got some more. But, I'm not sure.

message 48: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I don't think that that's true. I'm sure that they can create more with what they have, and that there was plenty to begin with. I'm not positive, however.

message 49: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
yeah, i guess they could...

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I dont see why everyone is making such a big deal about swine flu. its just like influenza but it just lasts a bit longer since you arent farmiliar with it. there is only 1 case in my state.
