Go Harry Potter And Twilight! discussion

Hey people, I was wondering, has anyone seen/spotted any mistakes in the books? We won't talk about the movies, because there are so many there. Like, At the end of Goblet of Fire, Harry talks about the horse less carriages that are to take them back to the Hogwarts Express. It's not until the beginning of Order of Phoenix that he sees the things that are moving the carriges, thestrals. WHY? Cedric was already dead when Harry made that comment at the end of GoB - shouldn't he have been able to see the thestrals already? What do you all have to say about that?

I didn't notice mistakes in the books.

I did, or I think I did in some other books but not in Harry Potter series, or Twilight series.

Movies are made different from what the books are so that isn't a surprize to me.

With the exception of the five hour BBC Pride and Prejudice, which was pretty much exactly the book. But it had to be five hours long to fit it all in.

I just overheard my mom asking my sister if we're going to celebrate that we finished our Iowa basics tests today... hmm...

well......not to be vulgar but realistic......
vampires aren't supposed to hav any fluids in their body other than blood. so, u seriously cannot hav a vampire baby with a male vamp n female human. i guess meyer just had to make Renesmee(wat kind of a name is dat???) n wreck it. X(

I'm totally with you. The only fluid would be blood when they fed.
I know this is kinna gross, but its the same with saliva. They wouldnt be able to talk without it, yet it too is a bodily fluid...

I haven't noticed any major mistakes in either series.

I have thought about the thestral thing a lot. My opinion is that when they arrive at school and the students have been on a 4 hour long (or more) train ride to northern Scotland, it is fully dark, so the carriages are there to make sure all the students make it to the school in time for dinner. Then at the end of the school year, they can walk to the train because they would leave in the morning and wouldn't need the carriages.

The fluids thing in Twilight: there is some occult documentation and legends about incubus and succubus. I think, if I remember correctly, that these are vampires that seduce mortals. And it is possible for the human female to become pregnant by an incubus. It's never really explained anywhere, but that is my thought.

Okay, well the answer to my mistake is in one of JKR'S interviews, it's not a mistake, but death has to SINK IN before seeing the thestrals. Which btw, still doesn't make sense, because he saw his, mom die right? So you would think death doesn't need longer than 3years to sink in?

OH! i know one mistake in the book and movie
like in the first movie they have to freeze neville to get out of the common room
but in the first book he seemed to be locked out of the room cus he frgot the new password!

At the end of the second book Dumbledore tells Harry that Lord Voldemort is the last remaining ancestor of Salazar Slytherin. But it should say that Lord Voldemort is the last remaining descendant of Salazar Slytherin.

On page 232 of GoF it reads, "Moody had insisted on putting Harry through his paces four times in a row, until Harry could throw off the curse entirely," referring to the Imperius Curse. However, on page 661 it says, "And Harry felt, for the third time in his life, the sensation that his mind had been wiped of all thought..." Wouldn't that be the fifth time instead of the third?

Oh, and Meghana? Don't compare the books to the movies, just do the books for now, okay?

Oh, and I just realized one more. On the list that Harry had, that said what he had to get for Hogwarts, it said get an owl, cat or toad. But Ron brought a rat, Scabbers.

i was just about to say that! way to go swati! but on the other hand... the thought did slip my mind.. as i said i was reading the first book. and i only realized while reading that it made no sense.... by now i must have forgotten..

only that 1 in twilight. many ppl are debating over dat.

On page 705 in GOF, Fudge says, "You are prepared to believe that Lord Voldemort has returned, on the word of a lunatic murderer, and a boy who...Shouldn't he have said "You-Know-Who" or "He Who Must Not Be Named" like he usually does?

Well, maybe he was referring to the way Harry addresses LV.

Okay, I have a question. You know, in the second book, where people keep get petrified, and not killed, because they didn't look at the snake straight in the eye, but through something? Like Hermione saw it through a mirror, Collin through him camera and other stuff? Well, when Harry was in the CoS, why did he have to close his eyes? Wouldn't he be able to see it through his glasses without getting killed or something? Please explain!

No, i dont think his glasses count, which is why he saw the snake through the mirror[if im right,:].
He might have only FAINTED if he looked through his glasses...someone please explain to me too!

Really, I don't notice mistakes in books becaue I'm so into it.

Yeah, the first time I read them all, I didn't notice any mistakes. I started noticing them only after.

Gosh...that's confusing!

About the glasses/basilisk thing:
If you look a basilisk in the eye, you die. That's what happened to Moaning Myrtle. But Hermione, Collin, etc. didn't look directly at its eyes, they used mirrors or cameras and so on. If Harry had looked through his glasses, he would be petrified. Or if they aren't thick or indirect enough (a reflection is not solid, like seeing through glasses) he would've died. I think.

And it said somewhere on JKR's website that Harry was in the crib when his mom died and he didn't see it.

Wait...I have a question. If they say if you look a basilisk in the eye you die and if you just look at it then you're petrified. Right? Well, then when Harry was fighting it, why didn't any of those things happen to him?!

No, if you look directly in its eyes, you die. If you look at any other part, nothing happens. If you look INdirectly in its eyes (through a camera, mirror, etc.), you are petrified. Only its gaze is deadly.
