Has anyone ever read Vampire Diaries, by LJ Smith? Stephenie Meyer claims she got the idea for Twilight in a dream, but if you read this, you know it isn't true. In the story, a good vampire, Stefan, saves Elena from a rape, there is a love triangle, werewolves, a 911 turbo, and even actual paragraphs that sound very similar to ones in Twilight. Hmmm... I was a ver big fan, until I read Vampire Diaries (published in 1992, by the way.) Please reply with your feelings, and get the word out!!!!!!

oh guess what makes it even worse? I've been searching the topic, and people have been saying L. J. Smith copied Meyer. Wow. Ummm...yeah, Smith saw the future and stole it.
I have read the first Vampire Diary. It is a lot like Twilight, but I never really got into it. Back then I was more into Stephen King.Might give em another chance, just to see (and to piss of the Twilight people)
Vampire Diaries...well, the books aren't extremely well-written. They do suck, but at least they're original.
I have read these books, but until seeing this I would not have considered them similar, and honestly still do not. The only things they have in common as far as I can tell are supernatural characters in love with a human. I mean the story lines are very different. Vampire diaries follows a young woman who is the object of affection for two vampires. In fact if you have read the complete vampire diaries series there is little similarity between them and the Twilight series.
I hate to say it cause I really am not fond of Twilight, but given the re-release of the vampire diaries and subsequent LJ smith books it might be more appropriate to say that the LJ Smith publisher is cashing in on the success of the twilight novels in order to further LJ's career. Not that there is anything wrong with doing that, the popularity of one book or series has been used numerous times to help sell other volumes of a similar genre. Take the HP Books by JK Rowlings, they spawned numerous books of a similar ilk, ranging from terrible copy cats to some rather fantastic alternatives.
Similarities don't mean plagiarism, and with the current crop of vampire novels out there you are bound to find similarities.
... dracula is nothing like the vampire chronicles, which are nothing like twilight... *sighes in releif*

I think it is safe to say that their is little save the title of vampire that can be shared in common with the character created in Bram Stoker's work.
Hurrah! From that cheerful note, i shall visit the library and get a copy of dracula. Good to know twilight-'vampires' didnt exist in the 1800s.
No, Dracula does not sparkle. If you haven't read Dracula it is definitely worth the time. It's told through various points of view and dairy entries which offers some interesting insight into the characters. You'll have to tell me what you think of it, if you do read it.
