In the near future, the federal government creates a committee to rid society of books it deems unsuitable. The libraries vow to protect their collections, and with the help of local governments, form a military group to defend themselves--the Library Forces!

Iku Kasahara has dreamed of joining the Library Defense Force ever since one of its soldiers stepped in to protect her favorite book from being confiscated in a bookstore when she was younger. But now that she's finally a recruit, she's finding her dream job to be a bit of a nightmare. Especially since her hard-hearted drill instructor seems to have it in for her!

Library Wars is one of the two series we are reading this July. We are reading the first 4 volumes and discussing those volumes only.

Kristen | 1392 comments Library Wars was among the first series I read when I started to read manga. I love it and eagerly await each new volume. I love the relationship between Kasahara and Dojo. I also think that the military setting is rather unique for a shoujo.

One thing that is increasingly becoming an issue for me as I continue to read the series is the believability of the dystopian future. There are a lot of aspects that don't really add up or make sense. I love the idea, but I think it could have used a bit more world-building.
