Are ghosts and spirits the same thing? What makes a ghost and what makes a spirit?

Katie (katieh_96) I've slway thought that a ghost was something that still had something left to do after death whereas a spirt doesn't belong anywhere so is left as just being s spirit. If that makes sense

Kaine Andrews (kaineandrews) | 75 comments My own definitions are that "spirit" is anything ephemeral. So elementals, ghosts, some depictions of angels of demons, that sort of thing.

Ghosts, by my book, are specifically the lingering spirits of a previously living individual (generally human, but potentially some animals.)

But that's just my opinion.

I'm not entirely sure. I think that ghosts are, as previously mentioned, trapped souls of the dead. Spirits may be a more general term referring to any kind of Spector, ghost, or other creature

Jackie - Fire & Ice Book Reviews (jackiefireicebookreviews) To me, a ghost is meant to scare someone, where as a . Spirit, is a piece of the person that is left behind.

What if we added a soul into the mix? Souls, spirits, ghosts?

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieh_96) I've always thought of s soul as the remains of s person when the 'shell' (bones etc) is removed. almost like a persons personality. It's a bit difficult to explain these.

They could all be considered the "same" but they could also be all different. it's hard to differentiate. It is almost like different stages of the same thing. A soul when it's inside a person, a spirit when that person dies, and a ghost if they become trapped. Or maybe it's a different order...

Michelle Elizabeth (michellesaid) Sylvia Browne defines ghosts as a dead person trapped on earth, after death, because they have not come to terms with their death. Spirits are those who have accepted death and gone to heaven. Soul is a general term. A(ngels are God's messengers/warriors.) Her hierarchy is (bottom to top) Ghosts -> Spirits -> Angels. I agree with her, as I don't have any better explanation myself. Of course, I know this is all subjective.

Justin (justinbienvenue) I think Ghosts and Spirits are the same thing or at least they can be referred to as the same thing. Each term however has it's own specific traits that the other necessarily may not.

『ᴡɪᴄᴋʟɪɴɢ ᴛʀᴀsʜ ● ɢᴏᴏᴅʙʏᴇ』 (wickling) | 31 comments I think of Ghosts as spirits of humans and other previously-corporeal beings, while spirits are always non-corporeal, if we want to go all New Age, then spirits exist on either Astral or Spiritual...

To me ghosts are undead souls, who did not 'pass on' for whatever reason while spirits are like....nymph-like things, personifications of nature, or..perhaps it might include angels, fae, djinn and demons.
