Do you think Prophets are paranormal creatures? What books have you read with them in it? What do you think of prophets?

I think they can either be good or bad but definitely have more of an ability to be evil. In my own book the prophet was good as a person but he frequently used his prophecies to manipulate the future
I don't tend to view prophets as being paranormal, exactly. To me, they're just passing along messages that come from an external entity (which is likely to be paranormal, but the prophet is often depicted as just a person with no power on their own. One could also have a prophet who is supernatural in some other way, I suppose.)Now a prophet could also be a psychic in other ways, which puts them in the "borderline" category to me, but straight up? No. As far as stuff I've read with prophets, well, The Rift most recently. ;) Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but my recent reading pile hasn't included much in genres where prophets would be showing up. XD
I do think, depending on the degree of contact with their "messenger," that a prophet could be cast as evil and manipulative (even if they're doing it for an ultimately good purpose, such as Alexander) but most depictions that I can think of either have them squarely under the thumb of their "source" and thus unable to do much outside of the program, or with such an uncontrollable - and typically disbelieved - edge to their "talent" that they really couldn't do much with it.
I think that they have a paranormal gift but in and of themselves, they are just human and therefore not paranormal. Obviously being able to see into the future isn't normal but they aren't the typical paranormal creature. It could go either way really
I don't think they are either. However you may find a profit in a paranormal book, but that does not make them a paranormal creature.
I think to me, the line is where the "gift" comes from. If it's something innate to them (visions of possible futures, mind reading, whatever), then they're "just" psychic. Psychics make up my borderline, where I wouldn't really say they're paranormal entities, but they're certainly something other than normal humans. If those visions are being broadcast to them by another power (which seems to be the dictionary definition of a prophet), then they're just the loudspeaker for something else, which in all likelihood is something paranormal (though it could be a "gifted" human, I suppose.)
I've never come across prophets in any books other than The Rift by our lovely moderator Shay. I think they are rare to come by in books and as mysterious in books as what they are known for. I've noticed in movies the main villian always seems to turn to a prophet to tell them what they wanna hear but when its not what they wanna hear they blame the prophet..its not their fault! In a real life aspect Nostradamus and Edgar Casey were true prophets and some of their visions still come true today
I have read very few books with them which was part of the reason I put one in my own book. When they are in books it makes it all the more fascinating. I agree. They usually are portrayed as a tool used by the bad guys to get what they want
You better post it when you're done writing it.
They knew about this poemBefore I even wrote it
They have visions of the future
Of the present that can change
They will tell you hot it can be
How it is and how it should be
Beyond the lines and spectrum
Looking deep into the future
They see what is to be seen
Whether orr not it comes true
Its up to the person whose fate it is
They only tell of the possibilities
They do not make them happen
They dont presume whats possible
Only predicting whats probable
The rest is all up to you...
Man I wish there was a "like" button on goodreads. And clapping hands
