I'm really enjoying it as I have all the Persephones I've read. There's just something about them. I have Mariana so I'll probably start that one very soon.
Sorry to hear about your divorce, Gina. I hope this read proves cathartic for you - but it is a bleak book! She is rescued by her daughter unexpectedly needing her but that's a problem in itself. I enjoyed reading it. It covered some of the same ground as Someone at a Distance but it seemed much more modern in attitudes. I was surprised to see it was published only 5 years later.
I read this a few months ago and I thought it was excellent. I agree, you can definitely see the changes in women's roles with the sixties coming up.
