Is anyone ready to discuss this one yet? I'm about halfway through. This is a tough read because of the husband-wife dynamic (and I'm going through a divorce), but the author is so perceptive about human nature...I've found myself marking a lot of pages!

Cynthia Dunn | 41 comments I'm sorry that you're going through a rough timne, Gina. I'm also embarrassed to admit that I'm terribly behind in my reading.

Thanks, Carol and Cynthia, I really appreciate it! And Cynthia, don't worry...this is a very laid-back group, so don't feel like you need to keep up with every book. Maybe you'll have time to join us for Mariana! :)

Cynthia Dunn | 41 comments I'm really enjoying it as I have all the Persephones I've read. There's just something about them. I have Mariana so I'll probably start that one very soon.

Rosemary | 86 comments Sorry to hear about your divorce, Gina. I hope this read proves cathartic for you - but it is a bleak book! She is rescued by her daughter unexpectedly needing her but that's a problem in itself.

I enjoyed reading it. It covered some of the same ground as Someone at a Distance but it seemed much more modern in attitudes. I was surprised to see it was published only 5 years later.

Karen (karenlibrarian13) | 26 comments I read this a few months ago and I thought it was excellent. I agree, you can definitely see the changes in women's roles with the sixties coming up.

Cynthia Dunn | 41 comments I finally finished it. Not because I didn't like it but I've taken on too many books.

I thought it was very good. I was very fond of Ruth. Does she ever find out about Maxine? And will she leave Rex?
