Where do you guys get Sun and Steel? It's around 40€ new and 30 used at Amazon. My suggestions:
Huxley's Doors of Perception for Non-fiction.
Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men for fiction.
Currently reading Ben Goldacre's Bad Science. Its a pretty enjoyable and straight-forward intro to understanding science and its misrepresentations.Other things on my to-read list:
The sequences from Eliezer Yudkowsky's lesswrong.com (about a third through so far). Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality is a fan fiction written by the same guy, in which harry potter is (mostly) ultra-rational. I think it is even better written than the original books.
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
Ender's game
Oliver Sacks' The man who mistook his wife for a hat
Sun and steel sounds like it could be interesting.
I'm a bug fan of Mishima so sun and steel sounds good, but I would not mind a fiction book to alternate. Someone mentioned On the Road, by Kerouac, I'de be up for that.EDIT: Also, if you like Mishima, or even if you dont, check out the movie about his life (or his wiki article to get a quick summary) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089603/
Where can we cop Sun and Steel?
I also want to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance as Sjcs suggested.

I am reading A Guide to the Good Life and the author talks a lot about hedonism in the beginning. I am kind of curious about it. Has anyone read books about hedonism?

I haven't read any books on hedonism but there is not much too it. Do whatever the fuck you want whenever the fuck you want as long as it gives pleasure.

I've looked in my library and my usual sources (what.cd, usenet, piratebay etc) and haven't been able to find an electronic copy of sun and steel. anyone else found one?
Same here,I went through all my sources(including #bookz), and managed to find it on 4chan/rs
Here's the link to download it(it's a pdf,but I'm sure it won't be a hassle to convert)

Also,what.cd has ebooks?

Yup. Read /mu/'s sticky they show you how to get in. You need to do an interview and answer questions about music an file types, bit rates and what not.
I'm not sure if I should even start the poll. Most people in this thread are up for Sun and Steel

Well,it isn't a long read anyway - it's about 100 pages,but they're really short. I've started reading earlier today and I'm already past 30 pages.
I suggest we set sunday/saturday as a date for Sun and Steel and make a poll for the next book.

Lets do it then.
Edit: Maybe we should vote for the next book now so we aren't rushed and have to start reading mid week. We read Sun and Steel now and we throw up the poll with the suggestions here end it on friday start on sunday so everyone has a chance to see it

sounds good. My nomination is ender's game (i recently found out its on the marines reading list http://guides.grc.usmcu.edu/content.p...)
Exams are just around the corner for me, so it'll be difficult to keep up with the reading (already enough to read for Uni) but I'll try my best. I definitely support the propositions made above.
After we do Sun and Steel, I recommend either "Think and Grow Rich" or "How to Win Friends and Influence People." I realize both of these titles are beta as f###, but I could use some help combating my assburgers. 100% srs post btw.

If your looking for something like that you should read
how to talk to anyone 92 little tricks for big success in relationships
I know the name sounds like a shitty add or infomercial but it's really good I'd say better than How to Win Friends and Influence People

Well, since we are reading an essay by Mishima, I suggest one of his fiction books. How about the Temple of the Golden Pavilion? Ender's game has been on my list for a while too though.
