A Book Group discussion

I've noticed that amongst people I've been around that the lack of sincerity and authenticity usually comes from an inner struggle to find some peace in their life. I think that by saying the right words they're hoping something will spark and relight their fire. Also, saying the right things and doing the right things can also be a cover for the struggle...so that others won't see their pain or that they need help. I know a struggle of mine is to cover up before confessing. I've gotten help with it and in so doing I can easily spot this in others around me.
