I'm reading "The Red Knight" by Miles Cameron, a rollicking fantasy adventure that's a lot of fun to read. The author's extensive background in medieval history and warfare (he makes and wears authentic armor) give the book a realism not found in a lot of fantasy novels.
Just finished "The Art Forger" by B.A. Shapiro and "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn. Enjoyed them both very much. The former is a mystery with a wonderful look into artists, forgeries, and the art world. The latter is a mystery with lots of twists, and a bit Vonnegut-esque.
I'm currently reading "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared" by Jonas Jonasson. A friend said it was the funniest book he's read in years. I'm enjoying it, but I thought "Civilwarland in Bad Decline" by George Saunders was funnier. (I'm less than halfway through "100 Year Old Man" so it may get funnier.)
I'm about to start reading City of Ashes. I just have to go pick it up from Sylvan Oaks library. I read City of Bones last month and it was okay for the first 3/4's of the book but after that it was so, so very, very good! I hope City of Ashes maintains that level of energy.
I'm reading City of Ashes also! (Audio version) I read City of Bones a long time ago and didn't really get into it. But I just finished Clockwork Princess of The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare and absolutely loved it! I'm not ready to be done with the Shadowhunter world, so I'm giving The Mortal Instruments another try!
I just wrapped up a wonderful fantasy book: Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman. I'm currently girding my loins to take on Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn for a mystery book club.
Finished those stories as well as Winter's Heart by Robert Jordan. Now I am a third of the way through Hastur Lord (Marion Zimmer Bradley & Deborah J. Ross)
I don't know how I managed this...I started the month reading "Red Knight." Now I'm reading that plus "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" for our book club and "The White Mountains" for this month's reading challenge...and just finished "Hunting Ground" on audio. I must be crazy... :-)
"The Boleyn King" was an excellent blending of history and "what might have been." I actually read the book from cover to cover and can't wait for the next book in the trilogy. I am also reading "Ever After" by Kim Harrison and can't wait to get my hands on the latest book by Laurell Hamilton--and her Anita Blake, vampire hunter series.
I'm reading "Legend" by Marie Lu. It's pretty good so far, but I'm waiting for when I have a big chunk of time to just sit down and knock it out :)
I am in the middle of Witchling, Tallstar's Revenge, and Demon in the Freezer at the same time. I also just finished rereading Hunger Games for my book club.
I finished "Are you there God, it's me Margaret". It was still a very fun read after all these years (35 years). It is a book I would recommend to my daughter when she hits her pre-teens in another 5 years.
I'm also becoming a fan of a new children's book series, one that my kids and I are listening to. It's the Mary Pope Osborne Magic Treehouse series. We've finished books 1-8 and will be on to 9-16 soon.
I'm down to the last few pages of Shadow of Night (part 2 of the All Soul's Trilogy) and about halfway through Freedom by Jonathan Frazier. (Like many of you, I'm a multi-book kinda girl!) Not quite sure what to crack open next though and will be scanning this thread for ideas.
I just started Redemption! Victoria LogueRedemption
It starts out in October and is set in San Francisco so you might like it too.
