Jonathan Miller | 1 comments I recommend Swamp by Michael Grunwald. The history and politics of the attempts to drain, exploit and restore the Everglades. Well worth reading.

Rachel Newcomb (rachelita) | 1 comments And Swamplandia!, a novel by Karen Russell, who was a guest at Winter With the Writers this year. It's set in the Everglades - was a NY Times book of the year for 2011.

Mary Dawson | 1 comments A New Award-Winning Florida Historical Adventure!

The Tampa Bay Library Consortium calls "The River Way Home: The Adventures of the Cowboy, the Indian, & the Amazon Queen" a “lovely story.” It was recently named Best Florida YA Book and Best Florida Adult Fiction of 2013 by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.

Alligators, Outlaws, and Tourists! Set on the Florida frontier of 1914, “The River WY Home” tells the story of three young teens, Cracker and Seminole boys and an African-American girl, who lose their boat on Lake Okeechobee in a storm and have to make their way home through the magical and mysterious Florida Jungle. When outlaws block the only road back, they take a detour to see the ocean and the train and have adventures they never expected. How will they finally get home, and who will they be when they get there?

To get reviews and generate discussion, we'll be giving away ten copies on November 13, but we'd also like to send ebooks to interested reviewers. Anyone who would like an ebook, message me on GR or via email at medawson@usa.net
