Scribblescribe Hi,

I just finished reading Dean Koontz: A Writer's Biography by Katherine Ramsland. I thought it was very informative about Koontz but at the same time it was very very VERY dry. It could've moved better in parts, but it was very interesting to leran about how his childhood informs his writing. Pretty much every book the man writes is him trying ot exorcise the demons of his childhood. I'd reccomend reading this book to serious Koontz addicts because it'll give you more insight into what you are reading and why Koontz writes the way he does. All of us here at Koontzland know that Koontz is not a horror writer, but we don't know why this is. Give this book a shot if you want to learn how Koontz got to where he is today and why he puts the themes he does in his books.

I started reading it once but never finished :-)

Scribblescribe Did you not finish it because it was boring?

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments I hesitate to read it because it's dated now. So much has happened in Koontz's life since it was written. I think the same thing about the Dean Koontz Companion. I wish someone would write a more contemporary version.

Scribblescribe everything becomes dated eventually.

no. I thought it was interesting and I think it would be interesting to any Koontz fan. I just read slow and didn't finish it before I had to return it to the library and I never bothered to check it out again so that is that :-)

Aaron | 12 comments I just finished this one a few months ago, listened to the whole thing while at the gym and in car. A top ten Koontz book for me.

It's available as an audiobook? I mostly do Audiobooks on CD. If I could get it as an audiobook on CD, I would totally read/listen to this!

Aaron | 12 comments I got it from our library. At our branch, you can order every Koontz CD(or download them. to transfer onto an iPod.)

no. I am old school and have not advanced to the digital age so I only do audiobooks on CD.I aggressively take advantage of the public library and occasionally I will purchase directly from Brilliance Audio www.audiobookstand.com but of course Brilliance doesn't do all the audiobooks. I will see what I can find through inter library loan :-)

Its called audible.com. (I hope I spelled it right.) You pay monthly for one ebook a month... pretty bad deal... I thought it would be like Netflix for audiobooks when I first heard about it.

I would until a site like Netflix comes out for audiobooks. I know some libraries have digital audio books to check out on their sites but the two I am a member of, most of them are newer books and also most of the time most of them are checked out. Especially the ones in the Charlotte library system... yeah my library card still works down there. XD
