Lucy got out of her car and drew her jacket up over her nose, trying to block the chilly night air. She walked across the mostly vacant parking lot and opened the front door of the gas station, hoping to get a quick cup of coffee for herself.

Wendy grabbed her cup of coffee and paid the man when the door opened. A girl walked in and just by looking at her, Wendy knew that hot coffee was a good idea.

Lucy walked past a girl in the doorway, holding a cup of coffee. Oh god, that smells soo good, she thought looking at the girls coffee. She accidentally bumped into her, not paying attention to where she was walking.

Wendy gasped as the hot coffee spilled on her. She suppressed a squeal of pain as the scorching liquid seeped through her shirt. Wendy quickly grabbed some napkins and began to dab, but the damage was done. "Thanks a lot," she seethed.

Lucy stepped back from the girl, eyes widening. "I'm sorry. Didn't mean to do that! Here, let me help ya." She went over to the coffee machine and grabbed some napkins, handing them to the other girl. "Really sorry about that, I'm Lucy."

Wendy took them and resumed cleaning up her clothes. "Wendy," she replied. "Really wish we could have met without me holding a coffee cup," Wendy joked.

Lucy gave a little chuckle and said, "Yeah, I might've made a better impression if that had happened."

Clara walked down the sidewalk, a light jacket on to keep out most of the cold. She had her fiery red hair in a high ponytail and her hands were in her pockets. She glanced inside a cafe she was passing and saw two women talking, one of them cleaning her clothing.

Lucy looked at of the window just as a girl walked past. She could see her fiery red hair blowing in the wind. The other girl turned her head and looked at Lucy and Wendy. Lucy raised her hand and waved, not wanting to seem rude.

Clara, since she'd been noticed anyway, walked into the cafe to escape the cold. "Well," she said, "it's certainly warmer in here than out there."

Lucy watched as the girl walked into the store, her cheeks flushed from the chilly wind outside. She nodded and said, "Yeah, it's not the warmest."

Clara smirked at Lucy and nodded back. "You got that right," she said, taking her hands out her jacket's pockets to push some stray hair behind her ear.

Kaya had her knees curled to her chest, and she was sitting in an alley. She had just flattened a city due to her power. A guy, he said that he liked her, and she got so emotional, her power exploded, killed him, and flattened the city. The news had started calling it a freak earth-quake, but Kaya knew it was all her. Tears poured down her cheeks, but she felt nothing. She never felt anything.

Lucy gave a little shrug and said, "I'm Lucy by the way. And you might not want to stand so close, I now have a history of spilling other people's coffee onto them." She gave a sheepish smile.

Taking the notice seriously, Clara took a step back, putting distance between her and Lucy. "Thanks for the warning," she said. "I'm Clara."

Lucy smiled at the other girl and turned to the girl she had spilled coffee on. "Again, I am really sorry about that. I can be a klutz sometimes. Here, let me go get you another coffee."

Wendy smiled. "Thanks." She then looked at the girl and introduced herself. "So, is your hair natural or dyed because it's both really cool and a little freaky. I feel like I might get sunburned if I stand too close."

Clara grinned at the woman who'd spoken, managing not to roll her eyes. "It's natural," she answered. "And, with the weather we're having, I'd rather have a sunburn than be cold. Because it means I was in the warm sunshine long enough to get one."

"I prefer dark and cold over warm and sunny." Lucy shrugged and said, "I'm just not a sunny girl."

"Well, there's something that we don't have in common," Clara said. Glancing outside, she took her hands out of her jacket's pockets and rubbed them together, warming them.

Lucy smiled and replied, "Yeah, I guess so." She looked at the other girl, with her bright red hair, and then at herself. She had olive-brown skin and dark brown hair. The two girls were like day and night, complete opposites in appearance.

Clara nodded, then went and bought a small cup of hot chocolate. She may not enjoy the cold, but it did h ave some perks that she liked. One of them being the drink she got

Lucy took a sip of her coffee and looked out of the window. It was starting to get dark out. She gave a wicked smile and turned to the girl saying, "Well I better get going, you know stuff to do. Nice meeting you!" She walked out the door and into the night.

On her way home she saw a group of guys out walking on the sidewalk. On their way home from a party most likely, she thought. They cat called to her and she turned around, a deadly gleam in her eyes. They walked up to her, commenting on how pretty she was and what she was doing out so late. She batted her eyelashes at them and turned around, starting to walk home again. One guy grabbed her arm and pulled her back towards him saying, "Where do you think your going?" She tried to yank her arm out of his grip, but he was stronger than her. "Get off me," she said in a hard voice. His grip, just tightened in response. She sighed and said, "You asked for it." She flicked her hand towards a shadow from a house. It rose from the ground and came flying towards the guy holding her, wrapping itself around his head. He let go over and started yelling, "Wh-what is g-g-going on?" He tried to rip the shadow off of his face, but it didn't budge. The other guys around her started forward to try and help him, but Lucy shot another shadow at them, wrapping it around their bodies. They struggled to get free, but it was useless. They were trapped. Lucy laughed and one guy turned to her, fear in his eyes. "What are you?" He asked her, still struggling against the shadow. Lucy's eyes started to change color, instead of blue they became darker, turning into a dark gray. A shadow shot out from behind a street lamp and covered her face, becoming a mask. She smiled and said, "I'm the Lady of Shadows, but you can call me Shadow."

Wendy waved goodbye. "I think I'll stay in here a little longer before going back out into the cold. What about you?" she asked Clara.

Clara shrugged, saying, "Might as well." Taking a sip of her hot chocolate, she glanced outside. After a moment, she turned her attention back Wendy. "So, I don't believe I caught your name before."

"Oh, I'm sorry, my name is Wendy," she said and held out her hand.

Clara shook her hand, a crooked smile on her face. "Nice to meet ya, Wendy."

Shadow walked around, through alleyways and empty sidewalks. She was drunk off of the power surging through her veins. After a while she started to get bored and sighed. Stretching her arm out, she called a shadow to her, shaping it and manipulating it into a door. She stepped through it and found herself outside of a theatre. She smiled as she cloaked herself in darkness, making herself invisible. She walked into the theatre and decided she would cause some chaos.

Wendy took back her hand and blew a tiny blast of cold air onto it. She knew people were warm-blooded, but that was ridiculous. "You new around here, because I don't remember seeing you on the streets," she asked, trying to keep nonchalant.

Clara shrugged and took another sip of her hot chocolate before answering. "New-ish. I've been here for about a month now," she said.

Wendy nodded. "People come and go a lot. I've been in this town for almost 6 months, but I'm getting restless. I blow in and out of many small towns. This is one of the few that I'm not so sure I want to leave though."

"And why is that?" Clara asked, curious. She was also curious about why Wendy seemed to travel a lot, but didn't ask why.

"Why is what?" Wendy asked, slightly confused. "Why do I like this town...I like the people. They're...different from many other people I've met. Most are judgmental and cruel, so I don't stay there long. But this place is nice. It also has a lot of different scenery so I don't get bored. A city, forest and bay all rather close to this little town."

Kaya stood, wiping the silent tears off of her face. Her mind flashed back to the scene of the city she was at falling--and all the cities before that. She felt a choked sob force it's way into her throat. No! Not now. I won't feel. She told herself, and the tears ceased. No more sobbing. Not now. She had to stop. She bundled her jacket around herself, and decided on her plan of action. She wouldn't attract attention, so she wouldn't get any feelings, and thus wouldn't destroy the city. White hair on a thirteen year old was noticeable in many cities--and her gold eyes only made it worse. Kaya flipped her hood over her head, and walked quickly down the alley. She broke into a run, and ran into a coffee shop. The girl needed something to warm her up. As she bustled toward the counter, her hip smashed into a table and Kaya lost her footing, near where two people were--one girl with fiery hair. As she fell back, her hood came off, revealing her white hair. With golden eyes, she blinked up at the girl, and slowly rubbed her elbow. "Ouch."

Wendy was startled when a girl burst through the door and into a table. "Oh my gosh, are you OK?" she asked, concerned. The girls golden eyes unnerved her, so she looked for blood around the floor so she wouldn't have to see the creepy eyes.

Kaya stood up, her white hair falling around her shoulders. "Yes," She replied, her voice oddly robotic from lack of feelings. She noticed her white hair, and slipped her hood back up. She blinked, and shook her head, "No blood. No feelings. I'm fine." She jumped slightly as the 'no feelings' part burst out. Oops.

Wendy blinked in confusion at the 'no feelings' part. "Um...okay. I'm glad you're fine...and on that note...bye." Something was definitely off about that girl and Wendy didn't want to stick around much longer. Plus, she now had an excuse to go practice. Tonight was one of the nights she applied her self-control, so she slipped on her costume and took up her usual spot on the radio tower. She couldn't see anything from up there, but the cold wind brought many different smells and sounds that could tell her if crimes in jewelry stores or in terrible recipes were happening. Wendy shivered in the cold air, but the wind was still soothing and sleep-inducing; which is why she didn't wake up immediately when the wind brought scared screams up to her high perch.

Shadow had set off a minor electrical fire in the small, cramped theatre. She watched in gleeful amusement, as the people around her stampeded their way to the exit. She wasn't going to hurt anybody, but that didn't mean she couldn't have some fun. As some young couple ran past her, she shot an almost invisible shadow towards them, causing them to trip and fall. She laughed and cloaked herself in darkness once more.

Kaya watched the girl go, and mentally cursed herself. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! She bought herself a hot chocolate, (with a long stare from the cashier) and sat down in a booth. She felt eyes on her--well, eyes on her hair. She lowered her gaze, and sighed. Looks like blending in isn't an option.

Wendy's nose twitched slightly as smoke crept up to her. Wendy suddenly remembered what she was supposed to be doing and sat bolt upright. The smoke was coming from the theater! Wendy jumped off the radio tower and began wind surfing towards the theater. When she got there, she saw people running, but not much smoke. She headed inside to see if she could find anyone who needed help. She couldn't find anyone and quickly realized that someone with the power to control the air in a burning building was a very bad idea. The small fire on the far wall grew into a building hungry inferno. "Uh-oh," Wendy muttered.

Kaya glanced outside, noticing the smoke billowing from the theatre. She gasped, and slowly walked toward the gathering crowd. She pushed herself toward the front of the crowd. She gazed up at the burning building.

Shadow laughed as she saw a frantic crowd grow outside the small theatre. She walked out of the building, letting the shadows fall away from her, figuring the cover of the crowd would be enough. She saw the girl she had accidentally spilt coffee on earlier and some other girl with bright white hair, glistening orange from the light of the fire.

Kaya leaned forward, squinting her eyes against the glow of the fire. She leaned forward, wondering what had caused the flames.

Clara had watched Wendy and the other girl leave, raising her eyebrows. Now she was walking down the street, hands in her jacket's pockets once more. She stopped after a few minutes, frowning. She smelled smoke, and smoke meant fire. I kinda hope that it's just someone's barbecue I'm smelling, she thought.
