Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd let you all know that your moderator is unfortunately going to be away for three weeks, after today, on holiday with no Internet connection. :( I'll miss the group, but I look forward to catching up on all our discussions when I get back on the 27th. :)

Feel free to keep discussing, posting new topics, maybe getting involved in the games... Don't let the fun stop!

I'll miss you all, and talk to you when I get back,

~Becca. :)

@Chris: :P Yes, I try to do a good job as a moderator, LOL.

Thank you - both of you - for your kind wishes. :) I very much look forward to talking to you both when I get back. I'm leaving for the airport in about an hour, and I plan to listen to the first three Deathstalker Audio books on the plane! :)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments hi i just came on your blog and i read that you went away and now you re back. how s that for temporal displacement.(well it felt like)nice to have you back. look forward to the topic.i m currrently reading hawk and fisher again. are you going to cover that series. i just love haven. my friends think i m mad for reading the same series over again but i m glad you understand hope you had good holiday.by the way where are you cos i m in england and the time difference can be hectic

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Haha, thanks Terry. :) I might read the Hawk and Fisher series at some point, but right now I've got about forty other new books to cover. I totally understand reading books over and over, it's pretty much the story of my life. :D And as to your question, I'm in a little corner of the world called New Zealand. :)

message 9: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments wow 40! i got a few different authors to read. that s a lot.is that for review purposes.you re 9 hours ahead of me i think. i m trying to get deathstalker coda at the moment cos your reviews have convinced me to read that series. absolutely loved the prequels especially down among the dead men, and mistworld. i can t remember the name of the one with carrion captain silence and his daughter. when they went down to that planet over run by tech. was that twilight of the empire. i d love to read that again . it s been so long, are you going to do a topic on the prequels separately. i know you re busy.

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Haha, it is a lot. And it's not really for review purposes - I mean, I promised myself I would review every book I read, but I'm already about twenty books behind at the moment. Eeek! But I'll catch up on reviewing when I have time. :)

I'm very happy - and flattered - that my reviews have made you want to read the other Deathstalker books, especially as I didn't think so highly of them as I did the first series. You must tell me what you think when you've read them!

Anyway... I think the one about Diana and Captain Silence is called Hellworld. Much to my shame, I have yet to read the prequel series, though I very much want to. Especially as I've heard Cat features heavily on Mistworld. In any case, you're welcome to start a discussion topic about the prequel series for those who have read them - or I can make the topic for you, if you prefer. :)

message 11: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments oh my gosh that s it hellworld! mistworld explains how investigator topaz got the hole in the back of her cloak, (i wont spoil it.)and cat was my favourite character in it.as was typhoid mary. the prequels are so good though they don t feature the main characters, it s a great set up.

hellworld is great. when are they going to learn that wampyre s and battle espers are no good if a whole planet full of nano tech is trying to assimilate you. i can t wait till you ve read those. then you can review those and we can have a full in depth discussion.(no pressure) oh i hope i haven tspoilt anything

message 12: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments oh yes and please can you make the topic thanks. please forgive the spelling i m writing on a tablet and somtimes it won t let me go back and correct. if i touch the screen ti prints.

message 13: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Yes, I'm quite looking forward to Mistworld! Especially now you've reminded me about the hole in Topaz' cloak - I remember it saying in Deathstalker War that her husband was wearing it when he was shot... Oh dear, I suspect I'm going to cry during this one too.

Haha, I can't wait to read them, and it will be great to discuss them with you and all the lovely people in this group. :) And no, you haven't really, told me anything I didn't already know, so all goods there.

Spelling mistakes forgiven. :D I'll go and make the topic(s) now. I'll make one for each of the three books, just for you. :)

message 14: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments thank you. at the moment i m reading odd john by olaf stapledon, hawk and fisher omnibus vol 1 (fantastic especially the street of gods) and beyond the blue moon simultaneusly. and then i will read beauty and tue morgaine saga by cjcherryh and malus of the warhammer series. until i can find the second deathstalker saga. i started years ago on that series but i couldn t get into it but i will give it another try.what do you think of game of thrones?

message 15: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
You're welcome. :)

:D It sounds like you're going to be keeping yourself very busy. I haven't in fact read Game of Thrones, though I know several people who have enjoyed it immensely. I suppose it will have to go on my to-read list at some point in time, but the aforementioned forty books are somewhat putting a damper on my need for any more massive series at the moment. LOL. I take it you like them?

message 16: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments i m waiting for the book series to finish. i m not gonna be tricked again like with terry goodkind. i meant beauty by sherri s tepper. it s set in an alternate universe where the witch put the wrong sister to sleep, so she s free to roam through time.by the way there is a stalker in hawk and fisher and a family clan called the quality.this feels like a bit of a prequel to deathstalker also what do you think of the nightside. i really like it not so much the james bond saga stuff

message 17: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Beauty sounds like a really good book!

Oh dear, you're going to force me to admit my shame, aren't you? Though I very much want to, I haven't as yet read Nightside, or in fact anything by Simon R Green except for the two main Deathstalker Series. :( If only because it's so hard to get hold of his books in New Zealand.

message 18: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments that s ok. that s all they sell where i am . i can t get his older stuff because it s been deleted.
i do go to charity shops and second hand bookstores. which is where i found the deathstalker series. i have return but can t get coda at the moment still i will keep trying

message 19: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
The first three Deathstalkers I only had on audio for about four years until I bought the paperbacks on-line. And I almost fainted when around the same time I found the rest of the two series - aside from Honour and Coda - in a wonderful, huge second hand book shop in Wellington. Seriously, I was almost literally dancing coming out of that shop.

Do yourself a favour and don't read Return until you can get Coda - I thought it would be okay to read Return and then read Coda a bit later, but the last sentence of Return made me almost literally fall off my seat... and of course then it was an intolerable wait to get Coda.

message 20: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments okay thanks. hey i notice you re reading c s lewis series. are you going to review it. i loved it when i was younger, but magicians nephew( the prequel) gave me nightmares.this weekend i m going to try to find coda in the second hand shop i go to

message 21: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Oh, you noticed that! I was planning to review it, it's just really a question of when, because I've got about twenty other books that I need to review and just haven't had time. I'll try and put aside a weekend to just cut a swathe through the reviews that are building up. Do you want me to tell you when I've reviewed them? :)

Good luck finding Coda. :)

Do you know if Ebay is good to buy the Deathstalker books on? I don't use it myself, but I have a friend in America who is trying to get the books. :)

message 28: by Terry (new)

Terry Huggins | 45 comments i don t use it. i m old fashioned i prefer to buy over the counter but i have a friend who uses it and she gets bargains.she also uses an auction site to bid. i may ask her to check that site for me.

Chris Marcus | 180 comments I bought all 3 of trilogy 2 on eBay with no worries. I'm always picking up cheap books on there.

Thanks Chris, that's a huge help. :) I really want this friend to read them and she's pumped to read them too. She managed to read the first 260 pages of Deathstalker online but the link got broken for some reason. :( So I'm just looking for easy ways for her to get the series before I go insane wondering what she'd think about this part or that part... :D

message 32: by Chris (new)

Chris Marcus | 180 comments Tell your friend to look at item number 190879113629 on ebay.com (US Site) Deathstalker Coda, Legacy, and Return.

Righty, just to let y'all know, my Dad's used up all our internet data, so your moderator is going to be rather absent over the next four or five days, except during the times few and far between when I can steal my mother's internet stick. So, until our internet decides to play nice, so long! :D

Jaq | 281 comments Are you back for good now? How did you go with the exams???

message 40: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Hi Jaq!
Yes, I finished with exams a mere three days ago, thank you very much for asking. :) Some exams went well, some not so well, and now I'm just waiting nervously for my results. Still, great to be back!
In any case, I am back for good now :) aside from the demands of Christmas shopping.

How have you been lately? :)

message 41: by Jaq (new)

Jaq | 281 comments How many exams did you sit? Are you near the end of High School or still got another year to go????

Going in for the op next week - so I'm trying to finish all the outstanding books I have going at the moment...and not start anymore until I've done that...and that's hard.....

message 42: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
I sat exams for six different subjects, fourteen exams/papers in total. The shortest paper was forty-five minutes long, the longest was two and a half hours. Glad that's over. :D

Oh, that would be hard. :( How many books have you got left to finish?
Good luck with your op! I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

message 43: by Jaq (new)

Jaq | 281 comments It's good you can sit back and relax now - when does the school year start again? My brother in law finished his last year twelve exams, and he's like a different fellow (mind you he's also now turned 18...so that could be it...hahahhaah)

Only five....hahahha - not like that should be too hard...but it's not starting anymore that is the problem......

Oh it's going to be fine - it's just the recovery that's going to be painful, but that's short term....I'm stocking up on magazines to read, because I won't be able to concentrate on books...

message 44: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
I know, I'm so relieved to have school over and done with, though I'm sure I'm going to miss it too. Of course I'll be filling the void with books and catching up with book reviews over the holidays. I have more than three months holiday! Uni starts in March - I'm quite sure I won't know what to do with myself until then. Though I think I've managed to find myself a small summer job in a bakery/cafe/mini-golf place.

Oh, five sounds all right. But not starting any more would be hard, I definitely know the feeling.

How long is the recovery period, do you know? In any case, magazines sound like a good substitute for books if you can't concentrate very well. :)

message 45: by Jaq (new)

Jaq | 281 comments Three months of holiday - awesome...and a part time job too - good planning...

six weeks!!!!!! So I'm stockpiling....hahahaha

Hoping that by Week three I'll be able to concentrate enough to follow plots again...

message 46: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 488 comments Mod
Yeah, it will be pretty awesome, though probably busier than I expect, as I'll also be learning how to drive. *shrug* I'll just try to make the most of the break. :)

:D Stockpiling sounds very sensible. What kinds of magazines do you read?

I'm sure you'll be looking forward to the moment you feel you can read books again. :)

message 47: by Jaq (new)

Jaq | 281 comments Phew managed to get through the stages of where my concentration rivalled that of a goldfish.

I love New Scientist (nerdy but true), and read a lot of sustainable living mags, and some Country Living magazines too (as I live in a regional area...it's interesting finding out what's going on). My worst addiction is to the Money magazines...love them...it's fascinating (my initial degree was in Accounting...so what more can I say here???)

message 48: by Jaq (new)

Jaq | 281 comments Anyone watching Defiance - the SyFy show???? It's entertaining me.....mind you it's on at like 11pm at night - so I've finally worked out how to watch shows from the internet...major tech advance.....
