I read this in Sep of last year and I remember thinking it should have been better than it actually was.

I really liked the first half. And I think its a world where it would be interesting to find out how it all pans out. The first chapter was pretty intense. Im going to read the second one soon and Ill post my thoughts with spoilers of course. I read a lot of first in series around this time, and this was a rare 4 star read.
I think the reason I rated it higher than I thought I would is because my expectations were pretty low!
I read this a few months ago and this is one of those books where I can't remember much about it until I read reviews and descriptions again. I do remember being excited at the beginning and that that excitement fizzled out by the end. The extreme difference between the way the main character was hard nosed with everyone and then mild and meek with her grandmother bugged me. It had potential, but didn't make me want to grab book 2.
I liked this book, it was a different take on the whole vampire thing. My favorite part about the book was the demon, Giguhl. Those bits with him and Sabina were funny, especially after he was a hairless cat. I look forward to the next book, just to read about him.
I just recently read the whole series. I was a little unsure about it from the first book but ended up enjoying the series. I too really liked Giguhl, he became one of my favorite characters in the series.
I did not read this book, but read the second in the series. I didn't exactly hate it, but thought the writing to be awful. Every unusual character, demons, vampires, whatever, all acted exactly as humans would. There wasn't a lot of real originality to anything in the book.
I had fun with this one. Giguhl made it for me. I haven't read on in the series yet, but do have book 2 on the bookshelf.
I'm not too crazy about it. I have the whole series so hope I like it more. To me it's the protagonist who is a turn off, I dont like her personality. The story though is great.
Im sensing a theme here of a book with great potential but quite forgettable at times. I sort of feel the same way with regards to my recollections. Id actually forgotten about Giguhl and I cant even remember what happened in the end. But for some reason I would still recommend it. hmmmm anywho on to book 2!
I have it on my kindle as was rec'd to me awhile ago, so will def give it a go but judging by ppls comments I'm not expecting much.

I'm still on the fence about starting this one... the description just wasn't enough to make me run out and buy it
Chrissy wrote: "This series is what I read when I'm waiting for a book from a better series to come out. Its adequate but not consuming."I like to call them filler books. It is a good description of many series.
My expectations were low after reading everyone's comments, but I thought it was ok. I'll admit to being sucked in enough to want to read what happens next :)
"not as good as it should have been" is exactly how I felt abut it, too. the heroine seems awful naive for a worldly killer. the love interest, roommate, sidekick, and handsome villain are all straight out of stock casting. basically, all the characters fell a little flat to me. but the story was really engaging, and the mythology this world is based on is very interesting, and Laura, I'm right there with you, wanting to find out what happens next.
For being the first book in the series, I enjoyed it a great deal. The main characters were fleshed out well, relationships were established, and there was a fairly entertaining story happening at the same time. I wasn't floored by the story, but I will definitely read the next book or two in the series based on I what I've read so far.
im glad people are trying it! I keep staring at the second one and really want to get to it before the end of the month
It's okay I guess. Not bad but forgettable. I read the first four books and the first chapter of book 5 then I couldn't keep going anymore. Now, I can't remember the specifics except that I liked Gighul better than the main character.
It's been a couple of years since I read this book, but I remember liking it ok. I did read the whole series and, while I really disliked book four, overall I enjoyed the series.
The first book in the Sabina Kane series packs a big punch. The main character is going through turmoil with her relationships and unable to trust anyone fully. At times, the novel gets side-tracked, but manages to capture your attention again. I remember picking it the first time and not getting past page 25 due to the nature of the main character. However, now I am reading the second series in the book and looking forward to continue this series. Overall, I found the book candid and morbid at times. Although, the humorous Griguhl provides light moments especially his issue with 'nocturnal emissions' after eating pizza as a hairless cat. Is anyone going to read Dirty Magic?
started the second one
and again it starts with a bang but gets lost along the way. im 3/4 of the way through but I can pretty much skim most pages and get whats going on. Fans of the demon will love this one. He is in it heaps! Kind of miss Adam and the vampires..This one is more about her learning her mage side . Probably a 3-3.5 star read

It will go on my tbr pile but I wont be rushing
I started it and couldn't finish it. It's not that I hated the book but I was just so bored reading it. I think at another time I would like it better.
