I have to say I was very disappointed in this series. The Giver was such a classic, I re-read it every year and I felt the series took away that magic that is the Giver.
I kind of agree with you. On one hand, it provides closure, but on the other hand, you don't get to speculate what happened any more. In any case, I still like this better than Messenger and Gathering Blue.
I totally loved it, but I've read all of the other books. This one was not necessary to complete the others, but it was excellent.
It was mediocre. The words were tasteless. The pages were long and torturous. The story was weak. The metaphor shrivelled up and died. It was like rolling under the couch and falling unconscious and waking up with a horrible taste in your mouth. It was like cutting all your toenails and forgetting the very last pinky toe... So you would walk around looking pathetic and unfinished. That's kind of how it felt. Especially after reading the series... It started out great then moved along, with each book, the breaths grew into sighs that grew into grunts that grew into yawns that grew into ZZZZZZZZZZ
Yeah i liked the closure, but I agree that it could have been better. When I read the Giver I was totally mind blown (and angry until I learned there was a sequel). Son was good, but didn't quite do the Giver justice.
I absolutely loved the Giver, but I hated this book. I wish I'd never read it...very disappointing..
Very disappointing especially because I enjoyed the story until she left the community where she lived in the beginning. It was a page turner until she escaped. From there it got more and more bizarre, cumbersome, and just plain nonsense! I don't even want to attach it to the other stories, and want to pretend it's a fanfic.
Spoiler coming, just a warning.I think it was the best of the series, but still not great. It was just alright and the ending was too abrupt. You wait the entire book for the reunion of Claire and Gabe and seconds before it's gonna happen....the end! Very annoying.
I think the story is very emotional overall, and I like the book, but I don't like how it ends, leaving even more questions like things are still missing. It didn't give me the sense of closure at all. In particular, I like the people in the fishermen village, especially Einar and Alys, and I felt so sad not knowing anything about these two after the climb out.
I think honestly, it will differ from each person that reads it. Either you like it or you don't, there's no in between. I, for one, liked it a lot.
This book was quite good, not bad. But sometimes, quite boring. Like, I don't know the purpose and moral of this story. Like a random life story, the author came across on a random day.
