Galina's ability is hereditary, but from which side of her family genes it comes from has always remained a mystery that she had no need to solve. That was, and is, and is likely to always be the beauty of it. It's a gift and curse, to be able to take the years of someone's life and take them for oneself, or to do the reverse. Her variant allows her such an ability, and has been keeping her alive for a very long time. The actual time period by which she was born in hasn't been clear, nor will it be clear until she has seen the time to be right, or when she remembers. Part of the side effects of her variant is a heavy strain on the body both mentally and physically, and takes a heavy toll on memory, as well. It may seem like a small gap is missing with every amount of a life taken, when in reality, it's a lifetime replaced with another, and another, and another. The vicious cycle does a number on her mentally, but she's always lucid enough to fully comprehend what it is that she is doing, and why she does it.
