Summer Reads

I read Ender's Game and enjoyed it far more than I expected to. I also read Miss Peregrine's Home for Particular Children and found it to be a decent read, although it really slowed down at the end.
I'm finishing the Across the Universe trilogy. Although I loved the first book, the second was entertaining, but felt like a different genre (more of a mystery than a SciFi). The third, Shades of Earth, has started out exciting, but there is so much tension I'm getting angry with the characters. I tried to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and although I appreciated the author's clever stylistic writing, I lost interest pretty fast. I also tried to read Next by Michael Crighton (I normally enjoy his books), but couldn't get past the first chapter.
Best read of the summer so far has been Ender's Game. Also, I'm reading a clever biography on Einstein that has been super interesting. It's called Einstein: Life of a Genius by Walter Isaacson.
Shades of Earth (Across the Universe book three) ended up much better than I expected. It was a good end to the series that, although YA and not literary at all, captured my imagination in a big way.
The Mistborn trilogy
was a pretty fun read! It's a fantasy with its own kind of "magic" system and it explores different aspects and ideas about religion without being too heavy about it. I'm currently reading the first book of his Stormlight Archive series, The Way of Kings. Haven't found a truly lousy read this summer yet.
Btw, I'm totally posting in hopes that this group starts back up again :)
