Lilah Mae Fitz was hiding by the gates, she had been in the actual camp searching for a friend that had been taken. He was very violent when he was upset so obviously this was where he had been shoved off to. After much investigation, talking to some shady people, and almost being caught she had found out that they had decapitated Todd. He was gone, never to come back, dead, in the after life. She had freaked out, and almost gone after a guard, but some Variant had had a heart and held her in restraint, with a hand over her mouth, until she was done with her grieving/freak out session that she had to have apparently. She was still a bit shaken up about the entire ordeal. Todd had been someone she had finally confided in, he was someone like her. Someone with abilities, and now he was gone. Lilah shook her head and fought back the dam that threatened to break. A guard walked back through the gates. It was almost time for her to make a break for it, she wasn't about to get caught so she could die too, or worse, be poked and prodded, examined, like a piece of meat. The weather was a spring kind of warm, it wasn't too hot, or too cold. Lilah was thankful for the good weather, she could have been out there freezing her bum off while waiting for her escape moment.

Mallory Kendall skidded to a halt. His heart was pounding hard, his mind way off track from the ten minute sprint he had to force himself to do. The family he was hiding with for a few days apparently got broken into by the government, the men breaking into the home on a mission to find him. To find Kendall. Out of instinct, he gave the guy a broken nose, running as fast as he could to get away from the law. He looked up, a metal archway gaping open in front of him. "Damn." He whispered breathlessly. Knowing where he was made him cringe. It defiantly wasn't somewhere he wanted to be. "Well," he said, straightening up. "If I'm here I might as well free as many people as I can." Taking slow steps forward, he peaked around the entrance, pressing his back against the inside of the camp. Hoping that he'd meet someone trying to escape, he slid down the wall, waiting for a guard or someone trying to escape.

Lilah was about to run out from her hiding spot when she heard footsteps approaching. She stopped and peeked her head around the stone she was hiding behind in the Gateway. A boy, no a man, no a young man? Yeah, a young man was running towards her, he then stopped and looked about, like he was trying to escape as well. Lilah leaned back into the alcove she was hiding in. Should she make herself known and try to see if he wanted to escape together? How risky was that? She bit her bottom lip with nervousness. She took a deep breath and stepped out of her hiding spot just enough to go, "Pssst." In a soft tone, she didn't want to alert the guard whos back was turned to them at that moment. She tried waving a little to get the guys attention, Lilah didn't want to attract the wrong kind of attention though, like someone in charge of this God forsaken place.

message 5: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall's head whipped to the side, his body going rigid when he saw another person. He eased slightly when he saw that she was shrunken back into the weeds. He inched his way over to her, partly so he could see what she looked like. She was young, sadly. Defiantly wasn't someone he could hit on and it even seem remotely right. "You tryin' to get out?" he whispered, keeping his head low and his knees to his chest. He didn't want to get caught, that's for sure. He's been missing for seven years. If they found him now, God knows what they'd do to him. He wanted out. Now.

(She's 17, don't give me that, you have a warlock 400 something years older than Siri -.- lol)

"Yeah I am, you?" She whispered back, she tucked her knees up to her chest trying to look as small as possible so that she wouldn't be seen. "Get back," She told him in a soft voice, she pulled him into the alcove with her as a guard passed, he didn't even notice the two tucked down in the weeds. "You have to be more careful!" Lilah chastised, "I'm Lilah by the way." Her chin was set a bit defiantly, as if daring him to say something adult like to her. She wasn't in the mood to have someone telling her she was too young to be doing something like this.

message 7: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (Well that's different. >_>)

"Kendall." He replied, watching the way that she curved into the alcove. The tone in her voice brought a smile to his face. What was she? A child who thought she was better than a 6 foot 5 refugee? Not something that he saw everyday. "And no. I'm actually trying to get into this place." He tried to sink his body down further into the weeds without making noise. Slowly, he turned his head to look at her. She was pretty, yes, but now was not the time to think about that. He had better things to do than sit around and gawk and girls possibly eight years younger than him. "I've basically been missing from the face of the earth for the past seven years. If these guards find me right now, I'll be locked up in that prison for the rest of my life."

(I don't see how 0.0)

"Oh," Lilah was curious and a bit frightened of Kendall now, but she wasn't about to admit that. "Well I don't know what to tell you, I'm sure as hell not going back in there," She muttered and noticed the guard was headed back to the other side again. "I'm out, see you later Kendall, have a pleasant time in that hell hole," She waved goodbye and ran out the gate, her footsteps pounded in her own ears, though they couldn't have been very loud at all really. She hoped that no one saw her. Lilah faintly heard shouts when she was a bit away, by that time though she was near the tree line, close to freedom.

message 9: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (I promise you. 600+ years are way different than 7. It just is. Don't mess with my logic)

Kendall almost called out after her but bit down on his tongue, trying to keep himself quiet. How in the world did she think that she could actually make it out there? Yeah, okay... Maybe the chick would actually be free, but the odds of that are low. He looked around, noticing that only one guard was staring toward his direction. "Psychotic girl's gonna get us both killed." He said under his breath before sprinting out - very noticeably - after Lilah. He increased his speed, trying to catch up with the girl in the distance. "Hey!" he shouted when they were out of earshot. Stretching out his hand, he grabbed her shoulder, trying to slow her down. "You just can't go off by yourself."

(Okay okay <3)

Lilah's ribs ached from running, she was about to slow down when a hand grabbed her shoulder and whipped her around. She faced Kendall, what the hell was he doing? Her temper flared slightly, "I can do as I please, you're not my boyfriend or brother." She told him with a snappish tone. Of course she wasn't thinking at the time about how she would eat, shelter herself, ect in the forest until she found a town. Her breathing was rapid, her chest rose and fell with each breath as she tried to calm her body down from the exertion she had just put it through. Lilah raised her hands above her head to get the stitches out of her side. She could've used some energy and healed herself to make herself more stable, but she didn't want to waste it that way.

message 11: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "You'll still get yourself killed." Kendall said, stifling a laugh. "I mean seriously, that was a what? Two minute run and you're already breathless?" Raising a brow, he searched her eyes, trying to find any type of fear or uneasiness. "I just had to sprint for my life for ten minutes strait. Think you can handle that alone?"

message 12: by Leena, It took one look and I was falling (new)

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
"Well I haven't run in a while like that okay?" Lilah replied with a steely look to her eyes. "Don't piss me off Kendall, I'm not in the mood." She flicked her eyes towards where they had just run from. It looked like they were gathering people to come check out who had run out, "Well if you're going with me you better make the decision fast because those guys," SHe pointed toward the guards starting their way, "Won't give us a choice about anything. Personally I'd rather be eaten by wolves."

message 13: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall looked back to where they had came from. "I know... I've been on the run for seven years, remember? I know my way around these idiots." He looked back down at her and nodded forward. "C'mon. You really don't want to be caught with me. It'll turn out bad for the both of us." He adjusted the black backpack on his shoulder and sidestepped away from her. "Ready?" He asked, taking off in a full sprint away from where he was standing. Making it into the woods is where he needs to go, but if he has to stop somewhere before that, it might actually kill him. Not many of the guards go past the woods, but the few that do... They normally catch who they're looking for.

"Okay, well-" Lilah didn't finish because he had taken off, she sighed and sprinted after him. She concentrated some of her energy on herself to make it easier on her to run. No stitches this time, she couldn't risk it. He feet carried her over too high grass, through bramble and sticks. They were almost to the forest, she could see the green of a bush, a squirrel frozen on a branch watching them, the smell of pine reached her nose and teased her senses. She put on a burst of speed, she would not be caught, she would not be held against her will. Lilah would die if that happened.

message 15: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall listened at how Lilah's feet crunched leaves and sticks, her strides making her feet pound against the ground. "Try to make your steps lighter." He called over his shoulder. "Don't wanna make your feet cause us to get caught." Slowing down his pace, he turned around, walking backwards so he could look at the girl. She was very enthusiastic about leaving... Whatever is on her mind, she has a plan to stick to it. "Are you going to make the first step into freedom, or am I?"

message 16: by Leena, It took one look and I was falling (new)

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
Lilah tried to lighten her steps like Kendall had instructed, she definitely didn't want to be the cause of them being caught, she avoided sticks when she could and kept pace with Kendall. "I will," She said with a shrug, she wasn't afraid of the forest, she used to live in a forest as a little girl. Lilah felt like the forest almost called to her, she pushed the feeling away. She needed to concentrate on escaping the men following them. Lilah sighed in relief as she entered the forest, the coolness of the forest was a relief, it was like the forest wrapped her up in safety as she slowed down and leaned against a tree to wait for Kendall. You could barely see out of the forest, the foliage was thick.

message 17: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall followed her into the forest, stepping over the lichen so it wouldn't get tangled in his feet. "First things first," he said, walking up to Lilah and crossing his arms over his chest. "Shelter, food, or water... Your choice." He knew that shelter would be the best option for now, with guards hot on their trail, but he might as well give the new girl a chance to show him what good she'll do for him.

message 18: by Leena, It took one look and I was falling (new)

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
"Shelter," She replied without thought, "Once we're done with that I can help find water." She shrugged her shoulders and pushed off of the mossy covered trunk of the tree she had been leaning on. "You don't think they'll come in here do you?" She asked him with a raised brow. He didn't seem all too worried about them coming into the forest. She knew something was different about this forest, just not really sure of what it was.

message 19: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall nodded to her plan. Maybe she wasn't as bad as he thought.... "It's happened before, them coming in here." He shrugged slightly, knowing that it's not very likely. "If we do meet up with them though, beat the hell out of them and run for your life." Smiling, he turned his head to the side, looking at her with curious eyes. "You'll be able to do that, right? I don't have to make all the fighting moves...?"

"I can take care of myself, don't worry pretty boy you won't have to do everything all by yourself,"Lilah replied and rolled her eyes dramatically at him. "Lets go," She stormed off to go deeper into the mysterious forest. They needed to do all of this before dark, she was sure there were creatures out there they would want to keep at bay with a fire. A shiver coursed through her, she took in a deep breath and let it out slowly as she walked. Her friend had been killed, and now she was on the run with some fugitive.

message 21: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall followed her, shaking his head slightly as they walked. What did he get himself into...? She was defiantly going to be a handful. "How long were you in there?" He asked, letting his feet slip from being quiet to crunching leaves and twigs.

Lilah pushed a branch back and waited for Kendall to pass her, she followed after him, "A few weeks. I was there for a.... friend," She swallowed the emotion that threatened to choke her. Lilah walked in silence for a few minutes before going on, "He died. They killed him." She said it in a neutral tone, like she was talking about the weather. It was easier to handle if she just separated herself from the situation. She thought she saw a resemblance of a small cave ahead of them and kept pushing forward.

message 23: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall bit the inside of his cheek, trying to think of something to say. Something comforting, maybe? No... She didn't sound too devastated. "Well that sucks that it happened. How old was he?" Curiosity danced across his voice. If the boy was younger than fifteen, it shouldn't have even happened. Even younger than thirty shouldn't die that way. No one should die that way. "That way" shouldn't even have happened.

"Yeah," She shrugged her shoulders even though he couldn't see her. "Uh he was 16," She said, a trickle of sadness laced through her voice without her consent. She bit her lip, hard. She didn't need sympathy from some guy she had just met. "Look this is a pretty good shelter," She said and nudged a stick into the opening of the cave, she wasn't going to take any chances. Nothing skittered out though so she went further into the cave, inching slowly in.

message 25: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "D'ya miss him?" Kendall asked, standing outside of the cave. He didn't care, really. Just trying to get a grip on what this girl likes and doesn't like. "You sure you wanna go in there unarmed?" He asked, stepping into the half-lit light. "Could be something," or someone... "In there."

"Yeah I do actually, he was my only friend," She muttered back to him. When he said someone could be ahead of her she took a step back, "Well why aren't you in here ahead of me being the big macho dude like you're supposed to then?" She asked him in annoyed, scared, little girl tone. She couldn't help but show her emotions, Lilah was coming down from the adrenaline that had been pumping through her veins.

message 27: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall laughed at her now whining tone. "Because you sounded like the big macho girl who didn't need any help." He walked up to her side, shrugging off his backpack. "Do you have any supplies?" Going to his knees, he unzipped his backpack and started shuffling through it. "Any knives? Blankets, clothes, flashlights?"

"I have a hunting knife, matches, clothes, and an emergency blanket... why?" She looked at him suspiciously. "Hey don't make fun of my by the way, I can take care of myself when I'm not thinking of the dangers that lurk ahead. You try to make a person have nightmares and to believe in the bogey man." She shook her head, a few tendrils of hair came loose and crowded her face as she bent to watch him and figure out what he was up to.

message 29: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "Most people I meet don't have anything. Just making sure you're not an idiot." Kendall pulled out a bottle of water and handed it to Lilah. "Here. Keep hydrated until we can find food... I don't want to carry your dehydrated body everywhere." Zipping the bag back up, he stood, slinging the backpack back over his shoulder. He looked back towards the opening of the cave. "What do you think...? Stay here for a while or go out and find what he need?"

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
"I think we should at least find a water source, and thanks," She held up the bottle to indicate what she was thanking him for. Lilah tried not to think about Kendall throwing her over his shoulder and carrying her around. She blinked and took a long drink of the water that he had handed to her. "You wanna start a fire and I'll look for a water source? I'm pretty good at these kinds of things..." She looked down at her shoes, for some reason her cheeks had turned pink.

message 31: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall half smiled at the blushing girl. Lovely. Someone's about to get attached to him. He nodded, thinking to himself that I'd be better if he went off to find water. "Sure. Just be careful, 'Kay? I really don't want to find out that you're back with the government, especially since what they did to your friend is common.... I'd rather me carry you around dehydrated than that." He rose his eyebrows slightly, not believing himself half of the things he just said. It was true, though, that he didn't want to find out she was back with the government. This is the first person like him that he's met in the past five years. He didn't want her gone just yet.

message 32: by Leena, It took one look and I was falling (new)

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
"Uh okay, thanks, I think," She looked at him a bit confused and gave him a slight wave. Lilah left the cave and went in search of water. She followed the moss, it was something her mother had taught her when she was a little girl. There were clues to survival all around them in the forest. She didn't remember all of the things she had taught her though, the water thing had just stuck thank goodness. She found a stream that was barely trickling by, but it would work. She pulled out two leather flasks and filled them with water, when they were safely attached to her belt she rinsed her arms, legs, face, and neck with the ice cold water. Then she headed back to the shelter where Kendall was waiting. She kept looking over her shoulder to make sure no one was following her.

message 33: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall quickly gathered sticks, pieces of tree bark and bushels of overgrown grass. Once he was back to the cave, he piled up the supplies and dug in his backpack for matches. A small cardboard box was at the bottom, the lid caving in from being crushed by the other contents in the bag. Sliding the box out of its cover, Kendall cursed under his breath. One match. One match left. He lit it, dropping it into the middle of the correctly arranged pile of sticks and grass. It sparked slightly. Out of instinct, he dropped to his stomach, getting his face close enough to blow on the flame.

Lilah walked in just as Kendall was on the ground blowing at a flame, she held a laugh back. This giant was on his tummy trying to urge a flame to life, it was a bit comical to his long body trying to fit in the cave the way he was laying. "Ahem," She cleared her throat and sat on the opposite side, "I got two flasks of water," She informed him, she was shivering slightly. Bathing at dusk was probably not the best idea, hopefully she didn't catch pneumonia or something and die. "How's that flame coming along?" She questioned Kendall.

message 35: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (Gah, it's a whole other Kendall and you're still calling him a giant xD)

Kendall tensed when he heard her speak. How long was she standing there...? He raised his head from the spitting fire, looking up at her through the cross hatching of sticks. "Out of matches." He said quickly, lowering his head to continue blowing on the flame. "This is my last hope." He closed his eyes for a few seconds, tying to gain his self control back. When he reopened his eyes, a decent-sized fire stood flickering inches from his face. He sighed out a laugh and sat back up straight. His eyes went to Lilah, her shivering body made him curious. "You cold?" He asked, pausing to take in the weather. It wasn't cold out. Why was she shivering...?

message 36: by Leena, It took one look and I was falling (new)

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
(Of course I am, its still Kendall >.>)

"I do have matches you know," She said with amusement in her voice, she watched as he bent back down to work on the fire for a bit longer. Well he was persistent if nothing else. She ran her hands up and down her arms that were covered in goosebumps. She shivered involuntarily once again. Her head came up when he asked her a question, "Oh that. Well I wanted to get cleaned up a bit so I used the water at the creek to clean up. Now I'm freezing, the water was cold as ice." She shrugged and put her hands out to the fire that was now practically roaring with heat. "Good job," She told him and offered him a smile. It felt good to sit, her legs were screaming at her from the exertion she had put them through the past two days. Her body wasn't used to this kind of exercise. If she wasn't so exhausted she would have sent a healing wave through her body. She was just too tired for something like that though.

message 37: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "You could've told me about the whole matches thing... I don't know, I little bit earlier ." Kendall sat back and watched at her. She looked freezing, or at least uncomfortable. He nodded to his backpack. "There's a jacket in there if you need it." He said as she stuck her hands near the fire. "I won't need it for a few more months."

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
Lilah laughed, "Well you looked so intense while getting the fire ready. I didn't want to interrupt you.... it seemed like an important, manly moment for you." She gave him a mischievous grin that said she did it on purpose. "Oh? Thanks," She rummaged through his backpack until she found the jacket, well hoodie, she pulled it over her head. It was kind of big on her but she liked it that way. She tucked her entire body into the hoodie and sat next to the fire with a smile on her face. She was nice and toasty now, and the sounds of the forest reached her ears, crickets singing, frogs croaking, deer and other animals wondering through the forest looking for food under the cover of darkness.

message 39: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "It wasn't really a manly moment if I've been doing it for ten years." Kendall smiled and almost laughed when Lilah's whole body could fit in his jacket. "You know," he said, nodding to the girl wrapped in warmth. "That thing's almost too small on me." Grinning, he laid back against the cave's wall. The sound of nature had grown on him, it was defiantly something he was used to now. But another persons voice? No. He wasn't used to that... Yet. I'll get used to it. She can't be staying for that long, anyway.... Can she?

"Too small?" She looked down at the oversized hoodie, well oversized for her at least. "You're something to reckon with that's for sure," She smiled at him across the fire, thankful for the warmth, and the company. She wouldn't have to wake every five minutes tonight in fear of being caught where she wasn't supposed to be. "So why are you on the run anyway?" She asked, curious as to his history. He might not even tell her anything, she hadn't thought about that. She wasn't going to pressure him, she was just making conversation, trying to get to know him some.

message 41: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall looked up at her. Was she asking about his past? No one ever asked about why he was trying to run. He blinked, trying to think of how much to tell her. "I used to be living with my uncle, but then those idiots took me. I was fourteen, I think... Stayed in their control until I gained enough strength to get out. Sixteen... That's how old I was when I got out." He shrugged slightly, pretending that it was no big deal. "I've been on the run ever since. If they catch me, they'll probably kill me, hands down. No questions asked." Reaching his hands behind his head, he slumped down and closed his eyes slightly.

"Idiots? What idiots? Are you a variant?" She asked right after he started talking, he continued and she waited to ask anymore questions until he was done talking. "Really? That's a rough life... Being killed no matter what is pretty harsh." She scrunched up her nose, disgusted for him. Those people deserved to be tortured himself. It sounded like he was a Variant. So was she. Should she tell him that though? Did he already know? She played with a stick, poking into the fire.

message 43: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "Kill that fire and you have to rebuild it." Kendall said, reopening his eyes. "And yeah... I'm a variant. Not much help to anything, though." He slumped back over, his head bent over the flickering fire. He really didn't care how much she pried out of him... He never talked about it anyway. Plus she was running from the exact same thing he was, she couldn't do much harm.

"What? I'm not going to kill it," She frowned, but put the stick down. She definitely didn't want to have to rebuild it. She wrapped her arms around her legs and set her chin on her knees. "I'm a variant too....." She admitted softly, she had never been allowed to tell anyone. Todd had been the only one to know besides her mother and Todd was dead. "I can heal minor wounds... ailments. I've never really told anyone though, and a lot of good it does either of us right now." she shrugged.

message 45: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall rolled his eyes. "I'm pretty sure you're more useful than me right now." He half smiled, pausing to think of what to say. "Foresight," he whispered. "That's mine." He never really liked his ability to see into the future. It either turned out really bad or really good. The only time it was good was when he could see what people were coming after him. Lilah actually is more help than him. She can heal. He could get them both killed.

Leena (leena23) | 614 comments Mod
"Foresight? You can see the future or something?" Lilah asked, not really knowing what he meant. "Are you like a fortune teller or does it just happen randomly?" It sounded like a kind of depressing ability. What if he saw his own death? She was honestly happy that she didn't have that, healing was much better for her. Even if she couldn't heal anything major. "Do you like that ability?" She asked him, her eyes were getting heavy, she was growing tired. The ground looked pretty good to rest her head on.

message 47: by Mallory (new)

Mallory Kendall smiled at the amount of questions she was asking. "It's more like I just get them randomly." Keeping his voice monotone, he stared blankly at the fire. Almost as if his mind was elsewhere. "I hate the ability, to be honest. I always end up seeing other people die... Sometimes it's me dying. Other times it just scares the shit out of me so much I end up worrying if something bad's going to happen while I sleep." He blinked and looked up at her. "I'd gladly switch for healing. That'd be amazing."

"Its okay," She said and laid down, moss being her pillow, leaves her mattress. Though she didn't worry about it, his hoodie was plenty cushiony enough for her. "It drains a lot of my energy when I use it... I have to be careful that I don't pass out," She explained in more detail. Lilah didn't want him to think it was something she had plenty of, healing was something she had to work on still. Her mother had told her she thought it would expand the more she used it.

message 49: by Mallory (new)

Mallory "A power that you have to be careful of using? Do you come with a warning label or what?" Kendall smiled, trying to show that he was joking. When she laid down, he laid his head back against the side of the cave. "We can find food in the morning. Figure out the plan later." Hunger didn't bother him at the moment. He's fasted for weeks, so a day or two without food didn't bother him that much. Lilah on the other hand could possibly be starving. He didn't know how much she could and couldn't handle.
