Four variants are held here--one room, separated into four quadrants, with power-canceling walls, floors, and ceiling (not to mention the door).

Ava sat in the corner of her cell, clutching her head. She had an awful headache, the lab admins had given her a new drug to keep her calmed down. It wasn't as if she didn't have control over her ability, but it did get a bit out of hand when she got mad or too scared. How could you not be scared in a place like this?

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia laid down on the bed in her cell, on her stomach. She had her legs kicked up behind her, swinging back and forth in the stale air. She picked at her fingernails, or, what was left of them. She'd been biting them a lot lately, she was just nervous about her upcoming plan to escape the hell hole lab. She looked into the cell across from hers and saw the girl-Avalon?? She wasn't sure, but she looked like she was in a lot of pain. She frowned deeply, she didnt like to see pain on others faces. "Hey" she called softly where she laid, testing to see if the guards would tell her to shut up. They didnt, so Nadia assumed the were in a good mood tonight "hey, Avalon, you alright?" She asked

Avalon let out a small groan, standing slowly and making her way to her own bed. Her head throbbed, and she lay on her back, on the small bed. Ava heard a voice and replied without raising her head, knowing who had spoken. "No. Not alright, not at all." she managed, closing her eyes. I need pain meds. And just something that will make this headache stop.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia bit down on her lip, she could tell that Ava had a killer migraine, she got them a lot after a day in the labs... The first few times shed seen it happen, she told the guards about it, having been naive enough to believe they would help her. They'd simply shrugged and said she'd probably be fine by morning. Nadia had started grabbing the pain pills and things when no one was watching, so subtly and, well, quickly, that no one noticed. It wasn't too hard when you had muscles and joints that worked as fast as hers. She had them all stored in a spot inside of her dresser, taped to the top. She took them a lot herself, after a log day of running or fighting. She slowly stood up and moved over to the dresser, opening up the top drawer as quietly as she could. She felt around the top until she found the pills, and slipped one out from the tape. She figured if Ava took it now, shed be fine when morning came and they started tests. Nadia moved to the front of her cell and glanced from side to side, checking the guards. They were chatting, not paying attention to the prisoners at all. Perfect. Nadia tossed the pill out if the bars and to Ava's cell, making it land on the comforter next to Ava's pillow. "Take that" she said "ask for water" she added, then went back to inspecting her nails like nothing had happened

Ava felt a stab of pain in her head, and she bit back a scream. This was the worst one she'd had in a while, maybe for two or three years? Avalon glanced at the ceiling, bare and stark white. Even in the spans of her imprisonment here, easily five or six years, her 'room' hadn't changed much. Only after her brother escaped did she switch into the more secure rooms. Since then, she had gotten so close to escaping, but it was always the same person that got her caught. Julian Grave. He was always there, somehow, and far stronger than her. Ava snapped to a dazed attention, seeing the bright yellow pill on the bed next to her. She stared at Nadia, breathless. 'Thank you,' Avalon mouthed, nodding. The girl hid the pill, and went to the bars of the cell. "Hey! Can I have some water?" One of the guards shot her a glare, and tossed a plastic bottle in her cell. She smiled slightly, and walked back to the bed, swallowing the pill and feeling a wave of calm rush over her.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia nodded to Avalon and smiled slightly, trying to convey a look of 'no prob' to the other girl. Nadia was tired from her day in the lab, it had been a fighting day. Shed really outdone herself, beating the shit out of her new test dummy, some young guard, with her fast reflexes. It was a lot of fun, and it had taught her how to defend herself, not the best choice the lab workers had ever made. She really didnt care though, and was more focused on how she would escape. She knew that a night like this one was ideal, when the guards were in a good mood and she wasn't too tired, but she was terribly nervous. The last time she had tried to escape, they'd thrown her into higher security. If she was caught this time, she didnt want to know what would happen. It felt like her last chance. She looked back up, seeing Avalon take the pill, and felt a pang of guilt. The little blonde was the closest thing Nadia had to a friend in the hell hole, how could she leave without her? Maybe she could bring her along.... Somehow...

Ava crumpled back onto the bed, closing her eyes but unable to sleep. She knew that in a few hours, the guards would scream lights out, and the lights would turn off, plunging them into darkness. That was normally the time she would hyperventilate, and end up making a guard or two collapse, if she had enough strength. Today, they had her use her power to hurt others--they shot her full of adrenaline, and put her in a dark room with a guard trying to hurt her. It scared the hell out of the poor girl, and she made him writhe on the floor, clutching his head like she had been moments before. I'm a monster. A pang of longing went through her, and she thought about her brother, Jack. I miss him so much. Where is he? I just wish he could get me out of here.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia sat up on her bed and stared at the wall, thinking over again in her mind how her escape would go. She thought of calling the guard over to her cell, crumpled on the floor, it wouldn't be too unusual for her to feel intense pain, with all the medications the scientists give her each day. They would open the cell door, since there was only one guy on the night shift, she could spring up and take him down. Shed take his keys, gun, and his walkie, so she would know how their search was going. It wouldn't be too hard. The hard part was getting out after that. She'd have to make her way through the darkly lit hallways... Keeping to the blond spots of the guards, and once she got out, just running. Sprinting, as fast as she possibly could, five times faster than any other human that walked the earth. She could go, and she would.

(Does that sound realistic enough???)

message 10: by ɯɐɔ, What happened to life before this? (new)

ɯɐɔ (camalama) | 467 comments Mod
(Yeah, it seems pretty realistic.)

Ava let a lone tear roll down her face. She could feel the headache slowly ebb away, but it was still there, and it hurt. Ava knew that tomorrow would be a hard day, or so the scientists had told her, and that they would be running a lot of tests. Why me? Why can't I just get out of this place? The girl thought about the times her brother had tried to get her out. First was his escape--they both were in the 'rec room,' and he had managed to get the window shimmied open and got out. She wasn't so lucky, and had her first experience with a Taser. Second was her first independent escape. She was in the labs, and got pretty far, until that son of a bitch Graves boy was there. He had her before she could blink, and back in a higher security cell. So close, but so far.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia glanced over at Avalon and couldn't help but scowl at the way she was looking. I mean yes, pretty much every variant in the place looked miserable, but Nadia knew that Ava had something more than freedom outside th plain white walls, she had family. She had her brother, who had been lucky enough to get out a little while ago. Shed listened to the guards talking and figured out all about how she'd tried to escape after him, it made her heart ache that she hadnt succeeded. So it was decided, Nadia would do her damnedest to get Avalon out tonight. She would try. She might have to carry her on her shoulder so she was as fast as herself, but she would give it her best shot.

(Awwww my gawd so adorable. <3)

Ava stood to her feet, and by the edge of her cell. She tried to use her ability, to see if she could get past the neutralizer in the cell that canceled out her powers. Yeah, she had attempted it before, and yeah, it worked, but in her state, she didn't know if it would work or not. Avalon closed her eyes and pictured the guards in her head, then asked for another water, without opening her mouth. She simply did it to see if she could send messages this way--maybe she could talk to Nadia if she could get past the neutralizer. Ava tried one last time, and sure enough, thirty seconds later, a guard came by with water. So it worked? Avalon thought incredulously, excited. She stared straight ahead at Nadia. Nadia. Can you hear me? Tap against your bed if you can.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia was shuffling quietly around her cell, getting a few things together, under her mattress, for when she was about to leave. She was tucking a sweatshirt under her blanket when she heard a voice. It was a soft voice, but she could hear it loud and clear...odd. Her head snapped up and she looked over at Avalon, who was staring right at her, huh, that's not creepy or anything. She leaned down, still watching Avalon, and tapped on her metal bed frame twice. It had to be Avalon, but she didnt know her adaptation let her do that...

ɯɐɔ (camalama) | 467 comments Mod
Ava looked away, biting back a smile. "I can't believe that worked." she thought to Nadia, breathless. Avalon noticed the sweatshirt, though, and the other things under the mattress: a bag, another change of clothes..."Where are you going? Are you planning on...?" she thought, hurt. Ava bit her lip. Great. Just great.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia nodded, and quickly made hand gestures. She pointed at Avalon, trying to get "you" across, and hen held up two fingers. She hoped he other girl would understand that she meant "you too", since Nadia planned on getting Ava out of this hellish lab, too. The other girl just needed to follow her lead, shed take it from there

Ava's eyes widened, and she grinned. Really? She was so happy, hopefully if the plan worked she'd be able to see Jack again. But if it didn't... Ava was already on her fourth escape attempt. She didn't want to know what would happen if she got on her fifth and was caught.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia smiled a little bit back at her and nodded 'just wait. And follow my lead.' She mouthed, doing her best to get the message across. It would be helpful, this new thing Ava just figured out. Well, she was guessing it was new, shed never really done it before. Nadia lifted up her sheets and pointed under the bed, trying to remind Avalon to get some things if her own ready. She didnt plan on failing, she thought her plan was pretty well thought out this time, especially for her.

message 18: by ɯɐɔ, What happened to life before this? (new)

ɯɐɔ (camalama) | 467 comments Mod
Ava nodded quickly, biting back a grin. She started getting her things together-- an old necklace that Jack gave her, a sweatshirt, and a small scalpel she had smuggled from the labs a few years ago. I hope this works, she thought to herself, not wanting to share her doubt with Nadia.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia smiled and went back to getting things together, taking all the mess that shed swiped over her time there and sticking them into her pockets. She was about to pull a wallet (one shed stolen from a guard) out of her dresser when she heard movement from the guards, so she immediately switched her movement to putting on socks, looking as miserable and pissed off as ever

Ava heard the guard coming, and since the items she had were small and able to be put on/hidden, respectively, she did so and fell on her bed, acting as if she was tired and simply unresponsive. The guard passed by the two of them, and turned back around to check the other two cells. Ava let out a silent sigh of relief, her heart pounding.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia laid on her somewhat bumpy bed until the guards were gone, then let herself relax, it was going to be fine. She and Avalon both had good instincts and helpful my stations, lets face it, that's what they are. So she wasn't too worried, she was more excited than anything about that night. Once she had all her things together, she went through a checklist in her mind, trying to figure out if she had everything, thinking and rethinking each step of the plan. She heard two guards talking as they left their shift, leaving the night guard on duty

Ava had all her things together, the necklace hidden beneath the plain grey shirt she wore. The scalpel was tucked into the waistband of her sweats, and she pulled on the sweatshirt. Ava glanced over at Nadia, shooting her a wary glance. What do you want me to do?<?/I>

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia looked over at her friend and pursed her lips. She wanted to wait until the middle of the nght, so any guards would be bored and far less alert than at the start if the evening. She went to the bars of her cell and looked at the clock, ten fifteen. She would wait until probably about one AM. She looked back at Ava and just mouthed 'wait.' She didn't know how to explain her plan without talking.

message 24: by ɯɐɔ, What happened to life before this? (new)

ɯɐɔ (camalama) | 467 comments Mod
Ava glanced away, and at her own clock. Ten fifteen. One of the guards stalked over to her cell, chuckling as he held the remote for the lights. There was no switch--just a remote set to turn on or off only to the guard's fingerprint. He did this often, just to see her expression as the lights went off and she was plunged into darkness. The guard leaned in close to her, smirking slightly. "Are you afraid of the dark?" He spat, pressing the button and shutting off all lights, save for the one in the guard station. Ava bit back a scream.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia glared at the guards back, it would surely be fun to knock his lights out soon. She was worried for Avalon, and started to hum a tune she knew from a long time ago, it brought along with it faint childhood memories of a sweet female voice, of fingers smoothing her hair and soft lips of her forehead. She hoped it would help Ava, maybe let her know that it was going to be alright, that Nadia was there

The guard laughed one more time, and strode away, to the station. Ava was huddled on her bed, every muscle in her body tense, and she was curled in a ball. In the darkness, the young girl heard a song, one that calmed her, and let her relax. Avalon rest her head on the pillow, breathing in and out quickly, but it slowed, and she stared at her ceiling, plagued in black rather than its usual white, and took in shuddery breaths.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

At around one thirty in the morning, everything was quiet. All that could be heard was the soft sound of breathing, coming from the prisoners and their one guard. Nadia laid on her bed, her sweatshirt on, as well as her sneakers she used when they out her on the treadmill. She was ready, and Avalon was probably getting impatient by now. It was time. She took a deep breath and made all her muscles go rigid, so WAHT she was about to do wouldn't hurt too much. She started to groan as if she were in pain and held onto her stomach, rolling off of her small bed and landing on the hard ground...uh ow, but it was worth it, she needed to be believable "h-help" she cried out. And sure enough, less than a minute later, she heard her cell door opening, the thumps of the guards boots coming towards her. He didnt have his weapon out, since he believed she was hurt, and not able to harm him, little did he know that's all she wanted to do. Right before he grabbed her arm (probably to haul her up and very rudely ask her what the hell was wrong with her), she sprang up, kneeing the soldier in the groin. He hadnt been expecting that, and let out a grunt as he doubled over. The brunette lab rat then pushed him against a wall, feeling his fist collide with her stomach. She groaned, but reacted quickly, and punching him square on the face. The back of the mans head collided with the cement wall, and he was knocked out. And would be out, for a long while. Not dead though. Nadia quickly grabbed her backpack from under her mattress and took the keys, gun, and walkie from the guard. She stuffed the walkie in her bag as she walked up to avalons cell and unlocked it, pulling the door open. She then locked her own cell again, trapping the guard inside. She handed the walkie to her friend and motioned for her to be quiet, holding onto the gun, ready to shoot any guards if she needed to. She stayed still and silent for a moment, waiting to see if anyone had heard their commotion.

Ava had fallen asleep eventually, her hair splayed out over her pillow. She was a light sleeper, though, and when she heard the sound of the guard in Nadia;s cell, Avalon jolted awake. She only had a moment to blink the sleep out of her eyes before she caught the walkie talkie, and ran after Nadia. "Shouldn't we help the others?"

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia listened closely, but heard only silence coming from the rest of the building, the guards were probably sleeping by now, either that or congregated somewhere to play poker. She'd have to watch out for that. She looked to Avalon and shook her head softly "no. Ava we can't help everyone, and more than two would just slow us down. Plus, we don't even know them or what they're like, can't trust em, even if they're out kind" she half hissed, moving towards the back door of the room. She knew where it led, a network of hallways that she and Avalon would have to et their way through, unseen. It shouldn't be too hard at this time of night, but it was still nerve-wracking

Ava felt a pang of guilt as she left the cells. The girl tried using her ability, but out here, in the hallway, the space was completely neutralized, and it was impossible. "which way?"

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

(OMG why am I still awake fuck *-*)

Nadia cringed "just follow" she whispered, putting a finger to her lips. She didnt want to alert any guards that they were there, none of them could know. Or else they were screwed and could possibly pay the price with their lives. She kept her back against the wall, so it wouldn't be so obvious if a guard came by that someone was walking down the hallway, and shuffled down the way. She needed to turn left; so she looked quickly down both hallways and then, once seeing that the coast was clear, darted into that hall. Only one more turn until the back door (okay I forgot to say she swiped his ID key card so lets pretend she did please ya?)

( HAH I was just about to tell you to go to bed. )

Ava quickly nodded, and darted after, the darkness suffocating. Her mouth was shut, and she swallowed nervously. What if they catch us? I could die today.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia kept on a brave face as she went through the hallways, using her fast pace to her advantage, as always. She got herself to the door and just stood by it for a moment. The coast was clear, but there would be at least one guard on this perimeter, not really any more than that though, since it was nighttime. She looked to Ava and tugged the girl closer to her so she could whisper "okay, I know this is going to sound weird, but you should let me carry you." She whispered softly "I'm five times faster than these guards, Ava, and I don't want them to catch you, Id hate myself." She added. Nadia knew she could take Avalon's weight, she weighed practically nothing by the looks of her. And Nadia was strong from the training that the scientists had put her through, wether shed liked it or not.

Avalon's padded after the girl, stopping when Nadia did and starting up again when she did as well. Ava flinched when Nadia whispered in her ear, and she processed this. "But--" She started, blushing, then nodded in the dark. "Okay. I don't want to slow us down, though."

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

"Seriously don't think of it as weird, it's necessary. The reason your escapes didnt work before is because you weren't fast enough, now I'm here. Sorry" she muttered, squatting down and tossing Avalon over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes (hehe) "Flip em off as we go" she muttered, then swiped the access card and opened the door quietly. She stood in the doorway, barely breathing, and looked at where the soldier was. He was standing at the far corner of the building, not very close to where the girls were at all. He seemed miles away, but Nadia knew that wasn't the case "here goes nothing" she breathed, taking the first step and running. She didnt think about anything at all, she just ran as fast as she could possibly go, towards the woods near the facility. She didnt hear the guard yelling, or the gunshot that was meant just to throw her off, or the man calling for back up, or anything else, for that matter. She was just focusing on her speed, and getting out of there alive.

"Okay--?" Ava started, but was cut off by her being lifted and abruptly set on Nadia's shoulder. Suddenly, they were moving fast, so fast, and she felt a bullet hit her shoulder. Avalon cried out, and bit back a scream as they plunged into the dark woods. Blood blossomed at the puncture, and Ava would've put pressure on it, but she was afraid that if she had let go, she would be taken back.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

"Fuck!" Nadia said when she heard Avalon cry out. Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCKKK. She ran faster, probably reaching close to 45 miles per hour with her feet thudding against the first floor. "Just hold on Ava I'll get it, I just need to get farther away, so they can't out one in your head too FUCKKK" she growled and kept running, her legs almost falling out from beneath her. She slowed herself down after a long while (idk I'm just gonna say the guards can't find them now because we already have an injury and more would just screw them over). "Okay, this should be good" Nadia said, her breathing heavy. She wasn't sure if shed ever run for that long before "fuck" she whispered, once again. She liked the word, it could be a good catch phase for her. She placed Avalon gently on the ground and threw her pack down next to her. She tore a piece off a tee that shed stuffed into her backpack and made a sort of sling thingy for her friends arm, letting the cloth apply pressure "please don't hate me" she muttered, shuffling around as fast as she could, trying to make a fire (heated instrument? Yeah?)

( Hahahahaa the first thing I saw was the excess of profanities )

Ava gritted her teeth but kept her grip, which was hard, given the location of the wound. She made sure to breathe, and to focus on relaxing, rather than tensing and promoting blood flow. Eventually the guards fell back, and they were out of sight of the facility. Ava took shuddery breaths, and kept her eyes closed. "Damnit. Okay. Nadia, I have a scalpel in the waistband of my pants. Grab it?" She had the scalpel from a few years back; a previous attempt. "I've been shot before, and I know that you have to remove the bullet. Okay?" Her hand was on the wound, applying pressure without pushing the bullet deeper inside.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia ditched her fire and nodded to Avalon "okay okay. Your brothers going to kill me" she muttered, tugging avalons shirt up a bit and grabbing the metal object out of the girls waistband. She handed it to her and then stood up "I really don't want to watch you do that..." She muttered, going over to her bag and pulling out her real clothes. She had collected them over the years, and the tank top was too tight by now, but it would still work.

Avalon managed to laugh, something unexpected. "He will not. I don't even know where to find him. He'd probably be happy that you got me out of here." Ava gripped the scalpel by its hilt, and stuck it in the fire quickly. She balled up her sweatshirt and stuffed part of the sleeve in her mouth, and immediately went to work digging out the bullet, the sweatshirt muffling her scream. It was involuntary, not her fault. "Fuck!" One part of the bullet was out, but the other was stuck. "I can't... get it out..." she hissed, between raggedy breaths.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

"Yeah I'm sure he will, if I can get you to him without a GAPING HOLE IN YOUR SHOULDER" Nadia growled, feeling like an absolute dumbass. Nadia heard Avalons muffled scream and flinched, then turned when she said it was stuck. The brunette took the scalpel from her friends hands and took a deep breath as she put the metal took towards her shoulder. She'd never done anything even close to this before, but she had to now. As carefully as she could, she maneuvered the scalpel into the wound, trying to dig out the rest of the bullet

Avalon flinched slightly, clenching her jaw. As soon as the scalpel was out of her hands, she shut her eyes and balled her hands into fists. When she felt the surgical knife cut back into her shoulder she screamed again, biting down on the sweatshirt. Avalon could feel the bullet slowly make its way out of her muscle. "I think it's out." she mumbled, wincing.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

"Yeah, it is. We got it! Phew! Now lets stop that blood girly, eh???" Nadia said, the nerves evident in her voice. She scrambled to her bag and picked fished out the gauze, wrapping it around avalons wound "here." She mumbled, placing a piece of tape on it to keep it in place "there, now you're all patched up. I still have the Advil, I'm guessing you need it? Not sure, never been shot before...."

All Ava could do was nod, she felt on the verge of passing out, but fiddled with her necklace to keep her mind busy. The necklace was her mother's, before she died, and Jack had kept it for her. He gave it to her at the orphanage, telling her to keep it safe, and Ava did. If anything happened to it, she may as well die. "Advil would be nice, I guess." Avalon mumbled, her heart pounding. "And thank you, Nadia. You risked your life to help us escape."

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Nadia nodded and went to her bag for the Advil. She wouldn't be using it a lot, since there wasn't exactly an abundance of the pain med, but this was important, her friend was just shot. Hot damn. Nadia then went to avalons bag and pulled out the water bottle she had packed, and then brought it over to her. She sat down next to her on her knees "here take that" she said, then let out a short laugh "I was risking my life anyway, thought I might as well bring you along for the death ride, eh?" She said with an easy grin "so I don't want to move you right away, but you really can only sleep for maybe an hour, we need to get going, they'll come looking for us, you know it." Nadia said with an annoyed face. If she didnt have those idiots chasing her, they would be fine by now.

Nadia shook her head "Jesus Ava stop saying that I just got you a nice bullet to the shoulder jeez" she said in a time that said she was weirded out by this girl "and seriously we're out of the building but if they find us now we're definitely dead, or maybe worse I don't even know. So don't thank me yet" she said in an urgent whisper, basically just remembering that there was a 1857294% chance that they were being followed.

"I can handle a bullet," Ava muttered, swallowing. "I'm stronger than you think." She shifted her weight so she was sitting cross-legged, albeit it wasn't any more comfortable. "And I know. I've seen what they do to people that try to escape. I'm one of them, remember?"
