A librarian friend of mine had posted this and I thought I would share. When someone tells you their favorite book does it raise any red flages with you?

Bill | 192 comments I have a few coworkers with whom I share book recommendations. One woman in particular & I often go to foreign films together, and we share a love of many things, Europe, food of all sorts, even gossip!. But whenever we discuss a classic book to read she always says Ulysses by James Joyce because it was rated the best work ever in a poll once in New Yorker magazine. To which I always reply "PUKE!" It shows up on this site in several Listopia polls for most overrated, most unfinished reading, biggest waste of time... I agree with all of those!

I think you should like a book because it speaks to you, not because so many polls says that it is good. Since she is such a lover of Ulysses I recommed she read South of Broad by Pat Conroy. He is most famous for the Prince of Tides. The main characters mother is a HUGE James Joyce fan and even celebrates some day important to the book.
