What about Herta Müller's Hunger und Seide? Author was born in Romania and had spent childhood and youth there.
Not read yet but I will. Thank you for it!
i'm a big fan of detective novels, so for those interested, i suggest rodica ojog-brasoveanu, our agatha christie:) i'm sure they must have translated something of hers.also, the literature written between the two world wars: camil petrescu, george calinescu, liviu rebreanu, mircea eliade. i was crazy about these guys in school.
have you tried mircea cartarescu and stelian tanase? these are the latest i've read. have been trying finnish literature of late:)
I just read a great historical fiction that takes place in Romania: Smuggled. I really liked it. My spoiler-free GR review explains why: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
