I'm glad it makes you happy.
Oh, Sam, I found a non-YouTube recording of this.

Here's Willy's slam team's 2013 album. Oppenheimer is obviously the poem.

I'll probably be posting a lot of stuff tonight just for the heck of it.
Arizona Summers -- Buddy Wakefield

This shows the stand-up comedy side of slam poetry. This is my one of my favorite humorous poems out there. Disclaimer: some strong language throughout.

It is basically fact that this man is God of Poetry. 99% of the poetry community agrees that he knows what he is doing and knows how to reach out to everyone with his work. This poem is what got me started on my journey in slam poetry. I didn't know who he was or that this was poetry, but I fell in love with it. I hope y'all love it too.

I haven't decided whether I want to post everything this guy has online. He's really good. He and I go way back to sophomore year of high school, when we were in the same Psychology class. I was actually scared of him. Now we go to poetry open mics and break microphones all the time. He is my favorite amateur poet by far, and I wanna show you the poem that got me hooked on his work.

I might have to kill you, yeah. Because it's a little narrow-minded to say you don't like it when there is a wide range of styles. I'm just showing more of my favorites at the moment, but I'll start to branch out and show just how different it can be.
How to Fry a Fish -- Avery Taylor

Avery is a doll. That is all that needs to be said here.

i just... i dunno, this is going to sound really stupid, but i feel like the talking ruins the poetry aspect. i love holding the poem or the pages of a book in my hands, running my fingers along the lines so that i catch every word. i love being able to see it, see those words, be able to picture it myself-- none of those things it feels like i can do when i hear it instead. i don't like books being read aloud to me for the same reason. i like doing it myself, having the experience all to myself. i don't have that control when listening to slam poetry. blahh.

@Sam
I know where you're coming from there. I guess I feel the exact opposite because I have an overactive mind that really wanders when reading poetry. This performance aspect keeps my attention a little better. However, if you would prefer, most major poets have the "lyrics" of their work posted online, and I can post those along with recordings.

The Madness Vase -- Andrea Gibson

This poem is for anyone with depression. I'm not a huge fan of her work because it can often be a little too much for me to handle emotionally, but this poem flew into my inbox at just the right time.

*ahem* if I may, I would also like to suggest you listen to any of Watsky's stuff. A lot of his pieces are more rap, especially anything off his recent album, but I particularly enjoy S is for Lisp, Drunk Text Message to God, and Tiny Glowing Screens Pt. 2. You can find any of them on YouTube, and most of his lyrics are on rapgenius.com. :)
Hey, guys! I have something really special to post this time.
Some of you may not be sold on the whole performance aspect of poetry. Well, that's not all my homies and I do. Our group, Speak For Yourself, published a book of our poetry four months ago, and it's been a big hit. We've sold many copies locally, as well as a surprising number from out-of-state people who have seen our work online.
If you love poetry on the page and the accessible nature of slam poetry, this book is totally for you. It's the best was to spend$15 $13.50, in my opinion. This includes work from myself, Roah, Avery, and many other admirable amateur poets from the Utah Valley area.

There's a lot of weird stuff with the messaging feature. Like the ability to copy-paste messages you receive.

Which one of my poems? Most of them.
Oh, did I mention that there are over a hundred poems in there? Seriously…that many poems for $13.50 is amazing. I just bought a book of poetry for $17.99 that has, like, twelve. (P.S. They sucked, too. Not my style.)

Wow, I have never once posted in this thread, and I have been here for over a year. But to be a good sport, I'll try and to find some good poetry and recommend it.
Wow... okay. I never even posted anything and forgot all about this thread. :PPoems made even more awesome because they're read by Hiddleston!

I completely forgot about Goodreads. Or rather, they forgot about me.
Love these. Phil Kaye is wonderful.

Oh, and I might recommend poetry along the way too. Use what I show you to find other poetry, and then bring that stuff back here.
This is a good plan, yes?
