I feel a little skeptic also, but I am more excited to see the show. I find it best go into it without any kind of expectations and just be excited that someone is bringing the story to life, for a whole other audience.
Not really, but only because I didn't enjoy the book all that much. Still I may watch. Señor del Toro is a wizard with visual media.
Wow! This is the first I'm hearing of this. I'll have a open mind. I enjoyed the books so why not a series.
I would be excited, but after what happened to "Under the Dome" as a TV series I am going to keep my excitement reined in...
For those interested in a visual interpretation, they are also producing this trilogy as graphic novels. The Strain, Volume 1I read the books, but honestly I don't think a TV series will hold my interest. May give the first episode a try though. My understanding is that del Toro and Hogan wrote these books after unsuccessfully pitching this idea to several movie studios. Since they couldn't sell it, they put it in novel form, partially to advertise it. And while I thought the story was okay, the plot left me a little flat once they got past the mystery of the plane (I did love the first half of The Strain, I though that rocked).

Maybe I will like them better than I did as graphic novels. Not sure about it as a television show. Need to watch first to be able to form an opinion.
Book 1 started spectacularly until i remembered that i'd seen it all before on Fringe. Then it turned into nothing but generic mush, it was like Del Toro rehashing Blade II but without Blade.
So nah, no interest in this tv show at all
I'm cautiously excited, especially since a TV show was del Toro's original conception for the story....
I am super excited! If Del Toro had no hand in the production, then maybe I wouldn't be so excited. But since he is one of the writers, and his "day job" is as a movie producer, I believe that if anyone can...he definitely will be able able to bring his vision to life. People have mentioned the Walking Dead series, but HBO has done a great adaption to small screen with both the Game of Thrones series and the Sookie Stackhouse series. No one considered AMC to be able to do anything "likable" with Walking Dead... and look how that turned out!
Yep I agree with you Marissa. The Walking Dead and A Game of Thrones were both very well adapted to the screen so I'm optimistic about this one. Even if it does tank, so what, something as original and well written as The Strain deserves the big screen.
I think Del Toro probably couldnt get the funding to make this into a TV Show or Film with a treatment or script alone, so went ahead with the novelizations. They are alreeady written like a film/tv production. The spots on FX have been terrifying. I
Del Toro took it to another network a few years back and they asked, "Like, Dude! Can you make this a vampire comedy?"Del Toro: "Uh...no."
If the first couple of episodes are anything to go by, there are a lot of differences between the book and series. I loved the book and I'm still reading the trilogy but disappointed with the tv series so far but in saying that, I will properly keep watching.
I like the show but liked the book better. I am happy that my wife who doesn't read fiction is getting to enjoy the story as well.

Some for purposes involving differences between what is good for books vs what is good for the screen, others just to make it new enough for those who read the books.
I'm going to have to check out the show. I LOVED the books. I read every one of them like I was starving for more. I think a tv show could be very interesting...more story with some awesome characters. I don't have cable though, so I will have to wait until it's on HULU or Netflix.
I wasn't very impressed with the series although I loved the books. I think its probably because all the actors look pretty insufferable and for some reason they always feel the need to dumb down the women and its infuriating. I'm still going to watch season 2 but with less expectation than I did the first. Maybe that's why I judged it so harshly? the Strained Trilogy brings the chills and the shivers but the show kept forgetting to do that.
