Marcia Cornett | 8 comments The school where I completed my student teaching used to have an authors day. A local author would come visit the school and classes would create/read their books aloud for the audience.

I was wondering if your schools had such a day, week, month? If so, what activities have you created with your class to participate in such a day?

Lindsay Aaron | 13 comments My school doesn't do anything like that. I really like that idea. I will mention it to the Title 1 teachers. I think they would love to do something like that.

Natalie Kabel | 23 comments We use it around Dr. Seuss' Birthday in March, we ask volunteers to come in and read to our kids and they LOVE it!

Ashley Dezern | 4 comments We do Dr. Seuss' birthday also and my principal dresses up like The Cat in the Hat and reads to different classrooms. We also partner different grade levels up together and let the kids read to each other.

Natalie Kabel | 23 comments I like the idea to partner different grade levels. We try to do that and my kids really love it! It's amazing how much they learn!

Hannah Andrews | 4 comments We have an Author's Day at our school every year. We bring in an author and they have a program where they share their books with the students. The students are able to interact with the author and ask questions. It's a great day!

Breanna Hooks | 17 comments I have never experienced and Author's Day. Well, maybe I have. This past year we got the author of The Book that Eats People to come out and speak to the kids. He kind of just talked about his book with the students and he read it aloud to them, but they loved it! I would love to see it more often because after he left the library couldn't keep the book on the shelves. It really motivated the kids to read it!

Rebecca Bond | 12 comments Our school celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday with having prominent members of our community read his books to each class. I have had an author's day in my classroom, with the students being the authors and sharing their written books. Also, several of our classrooms participate in Reading Buddies. The K and 1st are assigned upper grade students to read with. I hope our second grade will be considered this year.
Another day or several days I would like to recommend is the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN in October. It is a true celebration of storytelling.

Maria Lohr (Mrs_Lohr) | 19 comments Catawba County does something called "The Little Read". Each year a grade level is selected to read a particular book by a particular author and then all of the students in that grade level go to Lenoir Rhyne and listen to the author speak. Our school invited Joyce Moyer Hostetter to come and speak. We read Blue (great book) and then she did a 45 minute presentation for our students. It was really neat!
