I always expect so much of movies that are adapted from books. And I know that movies can't have everything the books have, but still, I'm expectant for everything to be correct. But it never is and my mood dampens. But it doesn't mean I don't like movies that were made from books, like Harry Potter. I loved those movies, books were better still. Hunger Games. I loved that movie, book was much better though.

Yah, i also agree. The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and all the Harry Potter Movies oh and Enders Game were all very good and were pretty close to the books which i loved! But City of Bones was horrible, that movie put me off the actual book.
I can think of one exception where I liked the movie better than the book:Steig Larsson's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
I saw the movie first (American version with Rooney Mara). I then read books 2 & 3, then book 1.
The movie version differs somewhat. Salander has a more direct role in the death of Martin Vanger, which I prefer.
I have re-read books 2 & 3 twice, but not the 1st.
I just cannot get enough of Lisbeth Salander, and there is not another heroine like her anywhere.
The Game of thrones tv series follows the book quite closely so far. I also really enjoyed the tv series.
I have to say I normally treat the movies and books as totally separate, as generally the plot differs the characters aren't as I imagine them and sometimes characters are added or taken away. That's how I deal with them. Because I love to see the movie adaptions as well!

I just saw the Ender's Game movie, without reading the book beforehand, which was probably a mistake, considering that I hate knowing the ending of a book before I've finished reading it. I found the movie to be entertaining, though, and will hopefully have an opportunity to pick up the book sometime soon.
Is anyone else excited for the release of the Divergent movie?

I'm going to see that one too. Looking forward to that one.
Do you like the cast that was selected? There's been quite a bit of controversy over it recently.
I think the guy playing four looks kind of how I imagined him.
The girl playing tris doesn't but that's been the case for lots if movies. I really like Kate Winslet, but I hadn't pictured her in that role, so will be interesting to watch.
Reading is about imagining so I don't think there's anyway a cast could ever make everyone happy, because I think we all picture the characters slightly differently, I generally reserve judgement till I've watched. The Host wasn't the cast id pictured at all, but I really enjoyed the film.
The Edward Cullen I pictured for Twilight was nothing like Robert Pattison, and Peeta from the hunger games wasn't quite what id pictured either.
I find it easier to treat them as separate, especially when you go to tv show level and they've dropped characters, or totally changed the way the book describes them aka the Vanpire Diaries, Elena is blonde in the book, she has another best friend who features quote heavily, Meredith. And Bonnie is written as flighty, a bit helpless and of classic Irish descent. But I still really like the tv show, the new books without the author... Not so much. I've stopped reading them.

I have to agree with you. While I was surprised by some of the casting selections, I prefer not to judge the cast and how well they fill their assigned roles until I have seen the movie. I think their acting skills play a huge role in my overall impression of a movie.
Is anyone going to the midnight premiere or bought their tickets yet (if you can even buy them so far in advance)?

I like watching movie adaptations because as was said earlier i also feel like (most of the time anyway) that it shows everything in good detail. I haven't watched the percy jackson movies but i saw the trailer and immediately disliked it, i saw one detail that they changed (where he clicks the pen instead of uncapping it) and it upset me, i mean really why change such a small but important detail?? I liked the Hunger games i think they did well i hate they had to leave out the governers daughter but i guess she wasn't really needed. I haven't seen the Host and i still want to but i think i'll be disapointed. I want to see Divergent, i think i'll be seeing it in a fe days hopefully.

I agree, also for some reason i liked the Warm bodies movie more then the book although the book was really good and explained a couple of details better.
I liked it, it was cute and funny, you should see it if you get a chance, have you seen the host? I loved the book but still haven't gotten a chance to see the movie.
Darcywillow wrote: "No I heard to many people bad mouthing it and haven't looked into myself yet I'll more or likely get there eventually watch it turn out really awesome .... (Everyone told me thor wasn't worth watch..."LOKI :D
I heard a few bad things about The Host as well. And yes LOKI :DD haha i like the Thor movies a lot.
I don't know, i've read i think 2 of the books and i don't really like it that much, but it would be worth seeing the movie, i also noticed, they are advertising it a lot on tv which is unusual for book-movie adaptations so i suppose the producer at least has a lot of money so special effects might be good.
Oh ok, i was thinking about re-reading them sometime. What do you think about the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit?
I'm reading the Lord of the rings right now and they are really good and the movies are great as well. I saw the trailer for a winters tale and it seemed good but i did't know it was based on a book. I'll have to look into that. And you should find a way to make a Loki thread :DD
Haha we definitely should :)And that's reassuring, because I've also been meaning to read Lord of the Rings for awhile now.
Haha i understand then and yes johnny goes well there, hes also really good in Secret Window. I love the Elfs anyway in the books and movies too.
I liked the books a lot, i haven't seen the movie yet but i've heard it wasn't that good, have you seen it?
The series Beautiful Creatures is a really awesome series. The movie, not so much. They changed a lot about the characters weren't the same really and the gave the main character a horrible southern accent (unless that's just the way we talk and don't realize it) lolLife of Pi, I haven't read the book although it's sitting on my shelf, but the movie is really good and sad
TFIOS Is such a sad but sweet book and i want to see the movie when i can.I have neither read nor seen Eragon but i've heard it's good.
Diary of a wimpy kid?
I haven't read diary of a wimpy kid myself but the first movie was cute. Iv'e been wanting to read the picture of Dorian gray is it good?
Iv'e seen The League of extraordinary gentleman and i really like that and i like his character there and thats what first made me want to read the picture of Dorian gray.
Oh ok my dad likes the movie thats why i first watched it. I also liked skinner haha and Hyde was good
It was interesting but i didn't like it a whole lot. Haha I used to always forget who he was myself.
I usually try and read the book before I see the movie. I like to experience the original concept before I try the adaptation. Usually I find the books have so much more detail than the movies.
