He fears that he may have depression, though he considers his life to be a good one. His father threw him and his mother and younger sister, Rachel, out of the house a couple years into high school. He holds a great respect for his mom because she had no job when his father kicked them out, yet she has still managed to keep the family afloat. His father has expressed little desire to contact him, until now, and Michael doesn't know why his dad has changed his mind. But Michael has no desire to reconnect with his father.
