I have finished this book, and really enjoyed it. it wasn't what I expected it to be like when I started to read it and can't wait for the sequel to come out!
I've finished reading it. I liked it. Can't say I "really liked" it or thought "it was amazing," though. Ryder was too mean and stubborn, and Maddie too accepting and forgiving of his behavior. The apocalyptic setting and plot were intriguing, though, and kept me reading. I will definitely read the sequel where hopefully the characters will redeem themselves.
I've read it and I have to say it didn't really grab me. There were too many things that didn't make sense and I found the characters a bit annoying. Maddie is so naive about everything and Ryder runs hot and cold so often it's like he's two different people, being all, "I've loved you forever," one minute and, "It was only sex," the next. I really liked the idea behind the story but I think it could have been done better, plus I'm not really a fan of the cliffhanger ending. I know it's meant to make you want to read the next book but it kind of puts me off because I hate leaving things unfinished and I feel obliged to carry on, even though I'm not that into the story.
It wasn't a bad read and there were some good bits, but it's not something I'd recommend to my friends.
I read this a while back and really liked it. The only thing that upset me was that I had no idea it wasn't a stand alone book. I was furious when I got to the end and found out I had to wait for the rest of the story. lol
I read this last month and loved it! The characters got a little annoying and seemed VERY immature at times but I love how the apocalypse unraveled and their fight for survival. There was enough action and a good pace for me too. I really can't wait until the next book. It was kind of a cliffhanger but I predicted it. I hope the second one works as well and the characters do a LOT of growing up:p
Well im almost at 50% and even though I always stick up for the bad boy - Maddie is just way too whinny to tolerate. whats bugging me (view spoiler)I tolerated and loved Travis in Beautiful disaster, and Ryder seems like him, but his over protectiveness is kind of overdone and sporadic, and at least the protag in that one had some stones to deal with someone like Travis.
Ill keep going, as im skimming like a mofo to get past all the non action.
interesting enough that i havent given up!
I sometimes feel I'm way too cynical to be reading this genre, but I do find little gems. Im a UF girl at heart, so even a small hint at a CR flavour is going to have to be really edgy and different to keep me interested.
All these different thoughts are interesting to see, as this is one non-contemporary NA I haven't read. :)
I love all the different view points! It's very interesting to hear what other readers think about the same book.
So far to me, it still reads like a CR..just that something happened and thats the scene they are in.
I liked the combination of romance and a fight for survival (not something I have read before). Some are too heavy one way or the other, but this has a decent mix. Though, I have to agree with Lorelle on the unrealistic part of the story (see her message). I wish it were more.... gruesome?

Im still 60% in and I cant believe how often she is thinking about sex and how hot Ryder is while they are in this stressful, scary situation! I worry that people plonk sexiness into NA books just to tick a box :S
I wasnt a big fan of the book. I felt that it should have been more about the crazyness of the situation and not about how hot Ryder was and what Maddie kept imagining doing with him. I'm ok with an author focusing on a relationship between 2 characters in a book but in this particualr case Ryder and Maddie were too wishy-washy on what they wanted from the other. I also HATE cut off endings with a passion. so obviously(for those that have finished the book and know what i'm talking about) hated the end. there are some books that are series that im okay with because almost everything is wrapped up in the book that can be, but to introduce a new conflict at the end of the book and just cut it off without saying what happens with it and saying you'll have to read the next book to find out what happens next really irritates me.
I'm new to the group so this was the first "official" NA book I read, so I wasn't sure what to expect. At first it seemed like just another romance/erotica book with a familiar plot - the "player" and the "virgin" have known each other since they were kids and now find out they have the hots for each other. Blah blah blah. However, the author then introduces an unexpected plot twist, while out on the town one night an EMP hits and now the main characters must struggle through a world turned on its head to survive the trip home, while still dealing with being all hot and bothered about each other. Now this was a plot I could get behind, I enjoy reading post apocalyptic stories, so I was excited to keep reading.
Unfortunately, the author only used this story line as a crutch to get from one erotic scene to another and did not flesh it out at all. Once they reach home the EMP plot line is almost dropped all together, its all about "does he love me?" and "oh, he is so handsome he makes me all hot and bothered just thinking about him". Very disappointing, I will try again with the August selections!
I couldn't get into the book or characters. I only read 29% of the book. There was nothing about the characters or storyline that grabbed my attention. There are some books that you just can't put down because you are so into the story. I literally had to force myself to read as much as I did.

I thought PMD was a great book. It was very different from what I normally read, but I think that's why I was so sucked in. I love the "fight for your life" aspect of it. It definitely was never boring!
What did you think?
