Numerous times, B.E.E. has discussed writing about personal pain as a sort of therapy, a way to step out of the dark place by taking a clinical view of it, distancing one's self from it by using it in fiction.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Here's a salient quote on that note (along with the link of where I found it).

"Each book comes from a place. A place of pain or confusion, or stress, or other things going on. Pain is drama; pain is gripping. As a writer, you are drawn to that. No one is drawn to writing about being happy or feelings of joy. Writers like writing about pain and drama, depending on what is going on in their life. When I was younger, it was about being an alienated teenager, then there were issues of unrequited love in college and when I moved to Manhattan was the confusion of buying into the yuppie culture." - Bret Easton Ellis
