message 1: by Teryl (new)

Teryl Who is the Nora heroine you don't like and why?

message 2: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I didn't feel for Phoebie in High Noon. I'm not thrilled with ball-busting heroines. She also reminded me of Eve Dallas.

Also, I didn't like Darcy from The Gallagers because I thought she was a selfish vain shrew, and I didn't like how she treated her brothers.

I'm sure there are more...

message 3: by Teryl (new)

Teryl I really didn't like Savannah from the McKade #3 book, Jared's story. I thought she was such a bitch.

message 4: by Nikki ♥ (new)

Nikki ♥ | 283 comments I didn't care for Sophia in The Villa. She was kind of bitchy to Ty.

message 5: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) Sophia was a bullbuster too.

message 6: by Corrine (new)

Corrine (itsactuallycorrine) I second all of yours, and add Meg from Northern Lights. I couldn't even finish this book because of her. Also, the heroine in her newest book, Vision in White, Mac is very frustrating.

message 7: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) Oh right Corrine! I forgot about Meg, but I actually liked that book quite a bit regardless of her.

message 8: by Corrine (new)

Corrine (itsactuallycorrine) The hero and the secondary characters were good, it was just Meg that ruined this book for me.

message 9: by Nikki ♥ (new)

Nikki ♥ | 283 comments I didn't like Meg at first, but she ended up growing on me.

message 10: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I felt for her with what she had deal with her mother and then finding out her dad never really ran off years ago.

message 11: by Teryl (new)

Teryl Yeah that to Nikki, I didn't like Meg at first either, but by the end of the book I liked her. Another one I don't really care for, Ceila from Tribute.

message 12: by Miss Kim (last edited May 08, 2009 12:52PM) (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I don't like the heroines that have cut themselves off emotionally from a bad past and have to learn how to be trusting. I always find myself irritated with them.

message 13: by Amar (new)

Amar | 134 comments I was okay with Phoebe and I really liked Sophia...didn't like Meg at all...I also didn't like Savannah....and also Sybil from the Chesapeake Bay saga.

message 14: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) Sybil was so uptight, I thought she was boring. I guess she was good match for Philip, though.

message 15: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (ardelia27) I didn't like Meg or Savannah either. I also didn't care for Callie from Birthright.
I did like Phoebe from High Noon though. I felt bad for her because she had so much she was dealing with!

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 6 comments I really enjoyed the Sign of Seven trilogy, but Layla really got on my nerves. I also was not a big fan of Savannah from the MacKades or Darcy of the Gallagers.

message 17: by Amar (new)

Amar | 134 comments Oooh Layla bugged me too...

message 18: by jenjn79 (new)

jenjn79 | 290 comments Mod
Hmm...Darcy from the Gallaghers comes to mind first. I just didn't like her attitude.

There are others I didn't care for as much, but Darcy is really the only one who bugged me a lot.

message 19: by Jess (new)

Jess I pretty much couldn't stand Meg from Northern Lights. Ugh. I hated that book because of her. She was just so awkward and tried too hard to be aloof and sexually appealing.

message 20: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Rose (sierrarose) | 15 comments Top of my list was Rebecca in the Mackade series then Darcy. I felt like someone should have smacked her a few times. Sybill was boring (thrilled I'm not the only one who thought that), I didn't like Shannon in Born in Shame and while she was lower on the dislike list Mia took some getting used to in the Three Sisters saga.

message 21: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 36 comments ... mmm... I have to agree that Darcy was not one my favorites. Second, Megan of Less of a Stranger. I found her very annoying.

That was Summer Lyndon from Summer Desserts.

It's been ages since I read that one, but I don't think I particularly cared for her, either.

message 23: by Kelly (last edited Oct 12, 2009 01:46PM) (new)

Kelly (kellywriter) | 24 comments As a writer I love reading these comments! I love to see readers fall in love with a character, or hate a character. It doesn't matter which as long as you connect with them, that is an author's dream! It means they did their job well, but then we all know Nora does that tremendously well!

message 24: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) Margo from the dream trilogy and Phoebe from High Noon, Margo seemed so "all about me" and Phoebe was just; I dunno, she seemed to run herd on Duncan to the point where their relationship was not a partnership....well it was as long as he caved and she didn't. When he didn't cave, she always cut the relationship. No.....there wasnt' much give and take with Phoebe.

message 25: by Colombina (new)

Colombina | 13 comments Darcy from The Gallagers - she seemes to be selfish, Meg from Northern lights because she's too much independent and she thinks and acting too much as a man, Savannah from The pride of Jared MacKade (she's a little cold).

message 26: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 86 comments There are some that I like more than others but the heroine that I really can't stand is Lena from Midnight Bayou. She is so cold and standoffish even at the end. I thought Declan could do better.

message 27: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Maddox (jmmadd20) | 31 comments I was not a fan of Savannah from the Jared MacKade book or Roz from Black Rose.

message 28: by Monnie (new)

Monnie (monnie1976) Miss Kim wrote: "I didn't feel for Phoebie in High Noon. I'm not thrilled with ball-busting heroines. She also reminded me of Eve Dallas.

I wasn't crazy about Darcy or the red head in the second one of that series. The first women I liked though.

message 29: by Monnie (new)

Monnie (monnie1976) I have to go with Darcy from The Irish Gallagers series and Sophia in The Villa. I was more interested in the romance between Sophia's Mom and the other guy than her and Tyler.

message 30: by Christina (new)

Christina Williams | 17 comments Teryl wrote: "I really didn't like Savannah from the McKade #3 book, Jared's story. I thought she was such a bitch."

I'm 100% with you! That's one of the few books I haven't re-read because I just couldn't take her! There's defensive then there's Savannah!

message 31: by Talya (new)

Talya | 815 comments Mod
I think I could find qualities that I like about each Nora heroine.
That being said, I would probably say Margo from Daring to Dream would be my least fave.

I also don't care for when heroines have a fit and throw and break things when they have an argument with the hero. I dunno, i just imagine there are better ways to display drama and angst.

message 32: by Lida (new)

Lida (smurfster) | 9 comments I agree with Talya, there are qualities I can appreciate in each Nora Heroine. Some more so than others.
Normally I hate heroines that think they have to do everything on their own, or to jump to conclusions. I wasnt a big fan of Laura of the Dream Trilogy!

message 33: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Rebecca from Shane McKades book.

message 34: by Elizen (new)

Elizen (mirificallyzen) I didn't like Meg from Northern Lights that much, and so with Layla from Sign of Seven.

message 35: by Christa (new)

Christa Many people have said Meg from Northern Lights and I agree. Also didnt finish the book. Watched the lifetime movie though, haha.

Another one is bartender Angelina(Lena) from Midnight Bayou (but I did like Declan the hero)

message 36: by Sebastian (new)

Sebastian | 9 comments Birthright was a great read but Callie was too mean to her husband I just wondered why he would even like her.

message 37: by Sebastian (new)

Sebastian | 9 comments I love Northern Lights but OMG Meg went so far as to drug a man and dress him in women's underwear. get her friends to put him in a lecture hall, take photos of him like that and post them on the internet...why?... because he cheated on her. And she tells the cop hero and he's like "Ok that's fine, you are sexy. I'm falling in love with you." REALLY? LOL!

message 38: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Araujo Sebastian wrote: "Birthright was a great read but Callie was too mean to her husband I just wondered why he would even like her."

Agreed. Everybody loves Birthright so much and I think the plot is genious, but Callie spoilled it for me. Love Jake though.

message 39: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Araujo Caro wrote: "I don't even remember her name, but I really didn't like the girl from the first Chef book. The one who ended up with the hotel owner.
She was so freaking self-centered that I couldn't bring mysel..."

Agreed.

message 40: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Araujo I agree with some of the opinions above; neither Meg from Northern Lights nor Sophia from The Villa nor Roz from Black Rose irrittated me. I actually think Sophia and Roz are pretty amazing. The other ones I agree to some extent. And I didn't like Callie from Birthright at all.

I also didn't like Margaret from Born In Trilogy. I absolutely love this trilogy with all my heart but she was just a turn-off in the first book, I think she was really cold and indiferent toward the hero Rogan.

Maggie was really tough to like. She grew on me eventually and I really respected her talent but she'll never be a favorite.

message 42: by Talya (new)

Talya | 815 comments Mod
I liked Maggie! I could see that Nora was conveying that Maggie was supposed to be fiery and fiesty (hence the Born in Fire), and I think her hesitance to Rogan was in response to his domineering and a bit arrogant personality. Though I agree, she doesn't strike as a favorite.

Yeah, I fell in love with her talent too.

I just love that Nora brings these unconventional professions into her books. It's inspiring.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't like Abra Walsh from Whiskey Beach. I thought that she was always rather rude, bossy, demanding and so bitchy towards Eli Landon.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

From This Day by Nora Roberts bookcover:From This Day|114181] Just finished in paperback. Sorry to say, the worse Nora Roberts book I have ever read from her. BJ Clark is the manager of a lovely Inn in Vermont. Her staff is like family and her clientele comes back time and again because of the quaint charm of the inn. BJ I thought at first was a strong, independent woman. But she became a wobbly, whiney, childlike girl who should have told the main male character to shove in the first chapter. I detested both main characters and didn't like the book. It had so much potential, but I just felt angry though the whole thing and couldn't wait to finish it. I love Nora Roberts and have read so many of her other masterpieces. For me, this was not one of them. Still lover her work and will continue to read her great books. 2 stars

Brandy Potter (brandypotterbooks) | 12 comments I know I am about to get a stormy backlash but I HATED Willa Mercy. Ben Mckinnen was so good to her and she was such a b!@#h.

Even the rich sister had more redeeming qualities about her.

I am also having a hard time becoming engaged in The Liar too.
