I read TransAtlantic and I had mixed feelings about it. Overall, I really liked it but in some sections it felt as though the author was trying to separate the sections and characters by writing style. The first section had short, choppy sentences. I liked the section about the senator and that first-person voice the best. I was also struck by the increasing value placed on the unopened, undelivered letter and the mystery it might hold. What about the rest of the family, were there no other relatives? What about the painting of Ireland brought into the home during the ice-producing period of the story? Was it never handed down? Also, I was hoping for more resolution at the end. What about the last woman and her dog? I am glad that I read it. I hope someone else reads it and comments so I can see if I am on the right track :) thanks, Judy
