Hmmmm...maybe The Boneshaker, The Best of All Possible Worlds, Cold Magic, Cinder

I second Boneshaker and Cinder. In fact, Cinder is the best novel I've read in the last six months.

How about "Where'd You Go Bernadette?" By Maria Semple (sorry no link...on the app right now, maybe someone else could add it for me?) This book surprised me with its quirky humor and info packed plot. How can you go wrong with a novel written by such a renown comedy writer? If you want more info why I loved it so much, I'll be happy to provide it, just didn't want to clog up the forum...many hours of delightful reading!!!

The combination of books you've given leads me to The Color Purple. I haven't yet known anyone not enjoy it and it is a book everyone should read in my opinion. Have you read Room? That too is a divine read.

Yes, The Boneshaker has some lovely illustrations.

i would suggest Life After Life, The Shining Girls, and when it comes out in the next couple of weeks, Night Film. all three of these are genre-blends that are certainly fresh and different, and all three of them were five star reads for me!

If you liked Water for Elephants, I'd recommend the other Sara Gruen novel, Ape House. I really enjoyed both of those.

I enjoyed it! I don't think it was as strong as Water for Elephants, but still a good interesting read!

I liked the one I just finished alot, Astor Place Vintage: A Novel by Stephanie Lehmann. You seem to have varied interests so you might enjoy. :-)

I loved The Monsters Of Templeton by Lauren Groff. The story really sucked me in and I loved loved loved her characters. Another one that I got really into was The Age of Miraclesby Karen Thompson Walker. Both are very light and enjoyable and stayed with me over the course of this year. I hope you enjoy.

two boys kissing. Aimee Bender has a vast array of short stories that are definitely different. Donald Ray Pollock has both short stories as well that is different in its rawness, simplicity, and an unwillingness to pull back. Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls very weirdly surreal, so is Revenge: Eleven Dark Tales. Also Haruki Murakami is definitely different. Mary roaches Stiff is incredibly awesome in its grossness; any of her stuff is great.
